As far as I know it is a true story and Ruelles part when she sings ''A child without a name'' it gives us the image that Lesley did not make it to name her child.

I’m 2 years late with this reply but for anyone who sees your comment: Dave explains, in a later track on the same album called Drama, that he based Lesley on his relatives. So the song was a way to tell the story of someone in his family without being specific. Also, as the album shows his chronology through therapy it’s a way of showing how he opened up about the real truth of the things he was saying towards the end, rather than just acting like they happened to random people

Lesley was about Dave’s mother. He says how his mom “fell” from the stairs. That was a lie to cover the fact that somebody abused her. And same as Lesley, it isn’t certain if the kid lived or died. Same way Dave says about himself that he didn’t know if he was gonna live.

As an actual Lesley iv been in this exact situation. Two children by 18 to an abusive man. Shamefully I didn’t get out for me but my daughters I had so low value of my self. Glad I got out. Those two children are now in university. Odds against us but we did it

Dave is one of the greatest rappers ever already, the imagery he gives describing the outfit getting out of the taxi and light flashes eye gashes during the abuse is just incredible. Basing it on real stories of loved ones is amazing also

The final song in this album, “drama” is an outro to the album and talks about what he learned. He also says, “do you believe that I can illustrate what streatham is, then break the fourth wall and base Lesley on my relatives?”

So leasly isn’t his mom but one of his relatives? I was thinking she was his mom and Jason his dad, I forgot which song but he referenced his dad as someone who “ran away from a war and now his son is in a war”. At the end of the song it says a “soldier with out a war” which I believed was a reference to his dad again. I kinda made the connection that his dad was some kind of vet with problems that he laid on his mom before leaving, I’m not sure cauz I’ve searched so much without answers but I love this song man, heard it first almost a year ago and I’ve listen to it well over 200 times it just hits me to the core man. I love Dave and all his music he’s the future of music man.

@@afamagbatekwe4033 I know this is an old comment I'm replying to but that line about a dad running away from a war is not about his dad, the actual line is "Somali dad ran away from a war, now his son's in a war, that's the cycle we're in". Dave isn't Somali he's Nigerian and in that line he's just talking generally about the state of the world and not about himself. Dave's dad also isn't a veteran but he did get deported when Dave was still at a very young age so he was never part of his life.

I watched this on Patreon last week but it was so good I watched it again! Lol!!! Great reaction Tom!!! Very powerful track! Dave is super talented - I went to his show last week and it was amazing!!! Although I was definitely the oldest there by a good 15 years! Lol!!! Unfortunately this is based on a true story of one of Dave’s family members. He confirms this on another track on the same album when he talks about ‘breaking the fourth wall’. Dave, Fredo, Meekz, Ghetts and Giggs all performed their track, ‘In the Fire’ at the Brit Awards last month and it was an EPIC performance!!!! They’re like the UK rap Avengers - all so talented, especially Ghetts! Ghetts and Giggs are the ‘generation’ before Dave, Fredo and Meekz (could even argue Giggs is 2 generations of music before Dave) so It was great to see them all up on the stage performing, especially with a genre that would never have been on national TV even 10 years ago! Great job Tom and so pleased you enjoyed it, the message is awesome and it’s one everyone needs to hear. I agree with your comments at the beginning of the video too - you and Nick were totally meant to do this!!! Sending love guys!

I just want to clarify because of one or two things I heard in the vid, men can be domestic violence victims too! I'm not trying to detract from what happens because women are statistically more likely, but it's not as much as some people might think! 1 in 4 (25%) women & 1 in 7 (~14%) of men have been victims of severe physical violence by partners!

Ok I gotta say I love this is something different. But is there any plans whatsoever for the multiple Abstract or other suggestions that I've put on since this channel started? I thought there was some kind of list or order you guys went in but it seems clear it's more based off popularity. If then I might as well stop since there's no other Abstract fans that seem to be aware of this channel and I'm getting nowhere. lol ur silly, so caught up in how he came upon the story, I think its meant to be like, a girl he saw on his morning train, and he spoke to daily, or something like that, so she would become someone in the neighborhood he was familiar with, so I think the story is an accumulation of speaking with her several times,.....saying that tho, he did base off a relative, but for the stories sake, the train version is great, What an amazing track tho Am I right?
