To temper your shock and despair, know that in the book, his poison was specifically designed for the mountain, it's too bad they didn't get to that in the show because sir Gregor was screaming bloody murder for WEEKS afterwards. Everyone in the red keep could hear it the whole time, rest assured, he suffered unimaginable pain for a fortnight, it was fated the second he took ANY hits from the spear

The show was so damn good back then. In a normal fantasy story Oberyn, the superior fighter with the just cause, takes this but since he tried to take some weird high ground he got his head smashed. Oberyn puts him down like the rabid animal he is and he gets to stop the Dorne story before it happens.

Despite The Mountain being one of the most vile and evil characters in GOT he is one of my favourites 😂. Him crushing Oberyn’s head with his bare hands holy shit! However, Oberyn was dead the moment he let his guard down and got to close to Clegane. Bronn put it perfectly, that you best tire him out and then strike but one stupid mistake and when he gets his hands on you, you’re dead. Also If you think he’s bad in the show, then you’ll be glad they left out what he does in the books.

Oberyn was possibly the greatest 1v1 fighter in game of thrones. He was proficient with every type of weapon and studied his opponents obsessively. If he had time to prepare for a fight, you weren’t winning. He knew the mountain’s armor and its weak points, he also chose a spear to keep distance and no armor for endurance and quickness. He always adapts to who he’s fighting. Pride and vengeance got the better of him.

This was a great scene, yes - well acted and VERY brutal..! Sadly it was also proof this show was PURE Fantasy. (Getting punched in the liver hurts like Hell - a middle weight ~can~ and will put a heavy weight down if said strike is done right; Getting a foot long spear blade STABBED into ones' liver..? A dude named Anatoli Petrovich Bugorski literally got blasted straight through the head with a particle accelerator and survived. Crazy right? That's nothing. Phineas Gage had a 3 foot iron rod blasted through and lodged into his skull and brain and survived. Dude literally walked to an oxcart, took it to the doctors, checked himself in, puked some of his own actual brain matter out and was still able to have a full conversation while doing it. He lived for 12 years afterward dying at 36 (which all things considered was kind of normal for 1846). So, Sidragosm, this begs the question: Is this art imitating life, or does life imitate art?
