To answer your 4:26 question, refer to 0:59, many people skip it in the first hours. Some trivia about martial arts that bending styles are based on: Waterbending is based on Tai Chi which is a very fluid and adaptable style. Firebending is based on the Northern Shaolin system, which is characterized by very powerful and dynamic footwork. Airbending is similar to baguazhang in that the bender moves and rotates his center to evade and attack. Earthbending based on Hun Gar, wont say anything about it just yet. Ages of the characters at the start of the series: Aang 12 (112) Katara 14 Sokka 15 Prince Zuko 16 Overall this show is actually incredible in terms of character writing and world building.

I don't know if you intent to keep watching after these two episodes but you definitely should. It isn't just a kids show even if the tone, especially in the first season, is that of a kids show, but it's actually so much more. An absolute all-time masterpiece.

@@ReactZones The same flashbacks if you pronounce Aang Ah-ng instead of Ae-ng or say Ih-roh instead of Eye-roh. But luckily this is just a tv show and no movies exist about it, they'd probably butcher things like the names and bending. and exposition. and hair. and do weird shots. and say names before introducing themselves. and forget to add tatoo and scar makeup. and make sokka not funny. and give katara's moments to aang. and montage 3 episodes in between the 5 episodes they slam into 1.75 hours plus credits *hypnotizing effect* There is no movie in Ba Sing Se. There is no movie in Ba Sing Se. There is no movie in Ba Sing Se.

The arrows indicate (you find this out not in the show but in official materials - meaning part of 'continuity'- related to the show. I think it's in a comic book iirc) airbending Mastery. Aang is 12 and if you look carefully you can see he is the ONLY kid to have an arrow whereas many if not all adults around him do. Aang was , I think, the youngest airbending Master ever. Notice that Appa has an arrow too, and Appa does some airbending to fly. It's speculated the arrow system came from observing the arrows on the air buffalo.

Without a spoiler, next episode you will see that this show isn't strictly a 'kid's show' with all rainbows and unicorns but will sometimes present difficult or terrible topics. Still, this is done with such restraint and respect that the show is still appropriate for the little ones. And yes, later on you do see mild amounts of adult jokes and situations (technically being in a war is already an adult situation anyway) once again done tastefully and in restraint. There's maybe one or two episodes in the entire three seasons where I could see a little kid might cry but I can assure you that everything is done tactfully and with heart and no one of ANY age will lose because they saw this show. This is one of the greatest animated stories ever told in my opinion and is fully up there with any anime or animated story told anywhere in the world, and I'm someone who has almost entirely given up on most western entertainment media, so I don't say this lightly. I think you will love this show.
