I was so mad when I finished this book, I think if I read it in isolation it would be ok, but miscommunication/misunderstandings is in all her books and I wish the characters would just use their words at this point. The ending didn't even make me sad, just pissed off 😂😭 I think how I feel about this series overall will ultimately depend on how Chain of Thorns goes because I need all the miscommunication to be addressed. It wasn't all bad though. I *loved* how James decorated the house in a way that Cordelia would like, I loved how they played chess and got to know each other, I love Lucie and Jesse together, I loved getting more back-story on Grace, any mention of TID or the TID characters made me teary-eyed. I love any scene with Christopher, he's beyond precious. The plot had me reeling in parts and I still can't wait for Chain of Thorns to see how everything resolves. I didn't hate the book, but I really wish Cassie would find some new ways of introducing conflict because I feel like certain plot points or tropes are just being reused.

AHH. Yass, finally!!! And this book was just painful and frustrating. Ahh, James and Cordelia just TALK to each other, please!! :D And I actually filmed a reading vlog for this book as well just because I needed to talk to someone while reading it :D

I'm so happy you finally posted this vlog. Tbh the bracelet thing became obvious to me by the end of chain of gold and I went into chain of Iron waiting for it to be off James' hand. I wanted the wedding to happen without the bracelet so freaking bad. And Matthew taking Cordelia to Paris was crossing the line. How could you do that to James your freaking parabati, man. I love Matthew but if he kisses Cordelia in Paris I'll black list him for good. My poor baby James he is finally free of the damned bracelet and knows his true feelings but doesn't get the chance to speak with Cordelia because of stupid Grace and Matthew's selfish behavior. And of course Alistair has to get self depreciating and break things off with Thomas. I'm so frustrated.

Everyone‘s getting mad at Matthew lol but Matthew doesn‘t know that James loves Cordelia and that he is hurting him by leaving with her. We as readers know of that but as for Matthew, he thinks that James is in love with Grace. Matthew has already mentioned quite a few times that he would leave Cordelia and James alone if James really loved her but he thinks James doesn‘t. Is it only me or do others agree as well that we can‘t blame him for something he doesn’t know?????? Honestly, as soon as Matthew finds out about James‘ true feelings for Cordelia, he‘s going to leaver her alone but as for the ending of CoI, HE DOESN‘T KNOW!!!!

And if he kisses Cordelia in Paris and later finds out the truth about James he will feel an insane amount of guilt on top of his guilt over his unborn sister. And that is what we are mad about. He needs to respect that James is still married to Cordelia even if he thinks James likes Grace. Also Cordelia is in a fragile state as well. Being Lilith's paladin and thinking James loves Grace. Yes that makes me mad at him.

listen.. I have read every Shadowhunter book, some multiple times. Prior to reading Chain of Gold and Chain of Iron this year, I re-read the Red Scrolls of Magic and read Lost Book of The White. Magnus Bane is my FAVORITE character throughout the entire chronicles. In his series, the specificity of a warlock's magic's color is mentioned and explained a bit, not to mention I KNOW Magnus' magic color is BLUE and I STILL didn't notice in Chain of Iron when he had yellow magic until it was revealed that was actually Lilith and one of the characters pointed out the color difference. I FELT SO BAD AND DUMB FOR NOT NOTICING LMAO

And i don't know if you remember that we figure out what happend with the chain that Grace give to James on chain of gold and we already knew in chain of iron hahaha maybe you forgot that part but I coudn't forget that.

i've read all the books in the shadowhunter chronicles and given all of them either 4 or 5 stars. ive seen cassie's writing grow with every book and couldn't help being amazed at the world building and unique characters she introduced. it's why i love this universe so much, chain of gold was my fave book so far out of all of them and i was absolutely buzzing for chain of iron. and it simply pains me to say i was grossly disappointed by this book. i could write a whole paper with all the issues i had with it, but the most prominent ones where how every character was put to the side for james, cordelia and lucy to be the center of attention (and in my opinion the side character stories were the most interesting ones..) and the conflict in the jordelia romance was solely based on miscommunication and an enchantment that could have easily been broken earlier if people just t a l k e d to each other and put the pieces together. it was simply frustrating to read, miscommunication is a trope that i hate, and throwing in and old classic love triangle only made things worse. i dont read the shadowhunter books for the romance. i read them for the found family trope, having each others backs, interesting group dynamics and all that jazz.. parabatai is strong on that front because its a bond that doesnt exist in another universe. but where was james caring for matthews very prominent problems? where was he trying to help his brother that he swore to protect? where was lucy opening up to cordelia about her power and/or love for jesse? idk about yall but i cant keep a secret from my best friend especially when i feel strongly about something. where was the merry thieves dynamic that was introduced in CoG? and even if all i was looking for was the romance, and didnt care about the other character relationships, i was disappointed by that too for the reasons i explained above. so yea, i hate to admit how much i hated this book. hope chain of thorns makes up for it.

Ok off topic but I use that Ren toner! It’s really great but it took my skin sometime to get used to it (I’m super sensitive). I don’t use it every day as it’s totally unnecessary to chemically exfoliate every day so I use it 2-4 times/week abs that way it lasts way longer too. Love your work as always! xoxo

Emma, thank you for another shout-out! I was so surprised. I hate that I’m so late watching your vlog when I was so much looking forward to it but the past month was really busy and I wanted to watch everything in one sitting. When I saw that chocolate close to the end, I was like “Hold on, this looks familiar!” :D I hope you liked the chocolate and that it gave you some comfort during these final pages. I completely agree with your thoughts on the ending/the epilogue. I was completely crushed by the Paris thing and then I had to kind of switch gears and focus on Belial and Tatiana again. I’m intrigued by that key and the Iron Tombs, though. I so cannot wait to read Chain of Thorns and I hope everyone will find happiness (Jordelia is pretty much a given, but I’m also rooting for Thomas x Alastair and Anna x Ariadne). Your embroidery looked really good, I still haven’t touched mine because I’m scared I’ll mess it up. Your vlog was a lot of fun to watch, especially the bits with Hannah and Jananie, as well as Cassie, since I watched both back when they aired. I’m currently half way through chain of iron so I’m not finishing this vlog yet, but I felt like it was very obvious that James’ feelings for Grace had something, or everything to do with the damn bracelet. Also I was not the least bit saddened by Elias’ death, I never liked him and I just know that all of his sketchiness comes into play later. Also also, I think the pommel thing he gave cordelia for cortana probably has something to do with cordelia getting burned by the sword and I’m just so mad she isn’t making the connection
