AEMO’s newly released plan claims Australia’s renewables push will cost around $122 billion from now until 2050 but the Centre for Independent Studies Energy Program Director Aidan Morrison says this is simply not credible.
“If you read the fine print and scroll to the bottom of the page of the press release on AEMO’s website, you’ll find the exclusions printed there,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
According to Mr Morrison, AEMO’s document “does not include the cost of commissioned, committed or anticipated projects, distribution network upgrades”.

The comments made here really amount to nothing more than good, plain, common-sense. We all knew that renewables would never meet guaranteed 24/7 base-load requirements. The effects upon the land and sea scapes are reason enough to dispel such fantasy...

here's the reality .. To meet 85% target the cost will see the consumer sitting in darkness freezing or a step away from a heat stroke unable to afford to their run air conditioning & heating system's or even turn the lights on & business will move to other countries with a much more affordable energy cost to remain viable ... Putting the none included costing into the Australian labour government plan will ruin Australia entirely sending the Australian way of lifestyle into a lifestyle similar to that of a poverty stricken 3rd world country for many of its citizens.... Labor make me sick they are trying to pull the wool over the Australian populations eye's by not telling us the truth about the all up cost to meet the net zero targets with their renewable energy only plan ... They haven't even done the proper costing is my bet because they are incapable of running a lemonade stand to make a profit let alone be able to work out a properly costed plan for the future of Australia's energy requirements. Its time for the outgoing Governer General to make his mark on his time a the Governer General & prolong his departure by sacking the Australian Labour Government .. Kenny doesn't understand the graph. The Gas shown is gas used in a year for electricity production. However at anytime 30% of the grid could be powered by Gas. That's what Kenny doesn't understand. Its not run all the time but is used as a back up generator. Hence we don't need much gas but we need a lot of Gas Turbines standing idle for when required and on many days that will be zero but there will be other days when they are all running at full output.
@planesounds
@planesounds 3 ай бұрын
Tim, And it would be so much simpler if we used the reliable output from a gaggle of nuclear power stations to run what would be a constant amount from them of what would be 90% of off peak and the gas just kicked in as demand rose. No need for the travesties of wind and solar farms littering the country side and never being sure how much each would be able to supply at any time of demand. No complications of supply management with any need for dumping of uncontrolled excess. South Australia never turns their gas off and at times it is ramped up to over 80% of local generation (and still drawing from the Eastern Grid to meet State demand).

Just bear in mind who is doing the proposed market development. AEMO. The "M" stands for "Marketing". They aren't interested in the consumer, they are concentrating on protecting the welfare of the energy providers. They will do nothing that supports the continuing of the reliable legacy coal and gas power industry as they can go rogue with cheap power as most of the power stations are either sitting on many years of coal that in essence costs them nothing beyond the cost of harvesting it and more than one gas station is the same in that they are within kilometres of a gas field and not tied into market forces. Besides, both State and Federal Governments are paying subsidies for all of the wind and solar businesses regardless of actual delivery into the Australian Grid. Goose. Golden Egg. The "Net Zero" emissions scare is 100% political with zero relevance to objective science. A "smoke" screen to hide the real agenda.

zen. Why should there be any detail at this point? Work would not be starting for at least another three years and there will be plenty of time to flesh out the whole project. When you go out to buy a new car, do you specify what size tyres it will be rolling on? Do you specify the thickness and weights of all of the glass in the car and the costs of replacement of a new windscreen? The community consultation has already taken place in that the community want reliable power. When the Rudd/Gillard/Rudd Government boasted about a record amount of Legislation that they put through, did you ask what it was and why? Over 400 Acts or Amendments to existing Acts as they pursued their Carbon Tax legislation. Over 300 of those motions were actually amendments to existing Legislation that were needed before their proposed new Bill could pass into the Houses to be voted on. Never any detailed costings or community consultation on that disaster. With the proposal for large scale nuclear power generation in Australia, we now know suitable locations and the power that will have to be produced. Good ground points to work from.
