Nate, its not the dang marketing guys that are ruining surf companies. They understand that authenticity is critical and athletes supply the energy that fuel a sports brand. The real issue is publically held mega companies that constantly succumb to unrealistic shareholder pressure and unrealistic year over year. gains... without reinvesting in the brand.

Nate and Koa, I watch all of your individual videos and podcasts. Along with JOB videos, and some of his podcast, but truthfully your podcast makes me feel like I'm sitting in the room with you, which I like. Also anytime JJF post a video I watch as well. But there is just so much surf content, and youtube shorts ruins people's attention. I like your videos, and I will continue to watch, my advice would be to just continue making it personal. People want connection, we can relate to you as friends, even though we don't know you personally, I feel like I could start up a conversation with you easily. Also, don't pump out so much that it becomes uninteresting. 1 video a week is perfect, especially if it's about the same time, don't over do it and dilute yourself. Keep it personal like you have, stay friends with your audience, and be consistent with 1 quality video a week
@reuzbl7742Ай бұрын
I agree with your comment, and I always feel a personal, humble, and humorous vibe from both of them (but especially in Nate’s videos). I wonder how much of their audience is from Southern California, because the surf has been pretty minimal here for awhile. Maybe California surfers are more focused on work, school, politics and world events at the moment.

I think foiling looks fun as hell, just wish it wasn’t so expensive
@nickc3856Ай бұрын
Same. Idk how to even get started either, foilers gatekeep their thing pretty hard
@johnw8945Ай бұрын
@@nickc3856Nah I don’t think we gatekeep, its actually an incredibly chill and welcoming vibe, like the opposite of surfing really. Its just very new and expensive and theres so many disciplines. The best way to get started is to do an e foil lesson, or get towed behind a boat/ jetski. Its also hard to say what to start on but if you can afford it the Unifoil progression series is really intuitive and easy to use.

Hey Nate and Koa, what do you guys reckon about doing podcasts in the downtime, you were talking about, when you are on location on surf trips, even if you two are in different locations? Could use video calling so you are both still on the podcast at the same time while interviewing people you are travelling with on location. Been really enjoying the podcasts.
@tebiasmason8643Ай бұрын
Good to see the podcast back. I’ve seen every episode. And I look for koas videos every Wednesday. Watch em all. Nate, you’ll see a boost soon. You’re my spirit animal but regretfully… I’m not subscribed, yet. This video is old from the time it was made to when it posted so maybe the numbers have settled… but honestly vids from the home break with the boys are the best. The all time fave is Malibu code red. “Look at all the kooks going to be scared if this wave” the edit, the music, the surfing primo. But I lived in ca and it was relatable. But any collabs with the boys and the banter… makes the surfing a bonus.

Super happy to see you guys back chitchatting it up loved the episode. Makes me very happy. I don’t know what’s going on with KZbin but they just implemented watching super long commercials where you can’t skip them and they’re like back to back commercials that are minutes long I don’t know if that has anything to do with people not watching as much because people get impatient And I can’t stand the new commercial ads BS they have going so that might have something to do with your numbers being low not sure though anyway thanks for hanging out loved it. Can’t wait to see the next one.👏👏🤙🏼

Worrying about the way something looks is a really good way to limit yourself. Stop worrying about what others think because it’s directly rooted to what you believe people might think if you if your foiling. Fuck that. Style matters in surfing, but that’s really limiting

Brands like JOB, Nate, John, Cola Bros, TIL, STAB, Kai Lenny, etc are what's killing the surf landscape. And they know that. They no longer have ownership over the footage, the merch, and the behind the scenes content. They have to compete for market share with you guys. What you guys push, is what the world is interested in. While it used to be a benefit for the sponsors alone, and to be seen by your audience, things shifted. The audience supports you guys for who you are and what you represent, so any changes you make will be met with support.

Hey Guys - In regards to the KZbin surf videos, there was definitely a difference the last few months in the algorithm that has been being pumped out to our accounts. Even though I continued to watch a lot of surfing and hunting and snowmobiling, there was less thumbnails and click-bait for those interests being presented to me. I think that politics and the election played a big role in that. I am noticing that things have changed since the election has been over. 🤷♂
