I highly recommend that you include Edith Wharton in your classics list to help you transition. She has a smaller book called Than Frome and my favorite of hers is The House of Mirth. She’s also known for The Age of Innocence. She is incredible.

I also love reading multiple volumes at once, Noa...At present, I'm reading Peter Suskind's 'The Pigeon,' Dodi Smith's 'I Capture the Castle,' Carson McCullers' 'The Heart is a Lonely Hunter,' and Michael Ende's 'The Neverending Story.' I find that it kinda always keeps reading fresh, right? (I love your idea about, y'know, reading older stuff mixed with newer, Noa, 'cos this keeps the older stuff from seeming too stodgy, right?)

I believe that literary refers to literary fiction which is a genre that is very character focused rather than plot focused. My Year of Rest and Relaxation would be another example of that genre. I do enjoy reading that genre, too. Read The Secret History by Donna Tartt if you get the chance. It’s wonderful!

I’m not sure I agree with your TikTok advice though-some 20th century authors like James Joyce and William Faulkner are much harder to read than Charles Dickens or George Eliot.
