Synonyms for era: period, age, stage, phase. You could talk about your eras of reading like the phases of the moon? Full moon is in peak reading one particular genre and perhaps right now you’re in a new moon phase where there is no genre that lights up the sky?

I am always in my fantasy era but every year I choose a new genre to mix things up a little. Right now I'm really getting into historical fiction and loving it. Last year was romance and it's been nice to read one every now and then and understand the book better in the context of the genre as a whole. I tried scifi one year but it didn't really stick.

I’m pretty solid-ly in my fantasy era, has been for years and years. But I’m definitely in a cozy fantasy phase atm, last year it was more epic fantasy. I actually forgot how I imagine most character after seeing the movie but if I really love the character and the movie doesn't match the image in my head then yes I usually remember. I love this format. For the reading thing. I just try to find books that sound good and also match my brain energy. Like after a long day I rather read something light like romance or when I had relaxing day I treat my self to a fantasy story.

I'm really starting to get into Stephen King's works for my first read. I read Carrie and really enjoyed it, but The Shining while it had a deep character exploration of Jack Torrance, the pacing was really a struggle to get through. My current book phase has always been the "winding road" where I don't know where the path takes me in my reading, but eventually I'll find that genre I gravitate towards.

Love this before bed booktalk ❤. My comfort genres to go to are fantasy and historical fiction (hate romance)...had a classic books phase the last months, but think i am over that now, at least for a while.😊 Back to fantasy with a reread-of-old-fantasy-books-phase, currently of Tad Williams Otherland series... these are four massive books...so, it's gonna take me awhile....but i loved the series when it came out 20 years ago....and i can say i still love it with being almost through the first book😅

loving these cozy vibes!! its interesting to think about how u pictured the characters before adaptations. I feel like when an adaptation is GOOD then my brain replaces the characters in my head with the actors on the screen. Yet when an adaption is BAD my brain rejects it and is like "That's not real" asjdhagsd like with the first percy jackson movies (that in my opinion were atrocious, so glad we're getting a show with rick!) my brain fully rejected it and i can still see the characters I originally thought up in my head still lol

In terms of book adaptations and whether they erase the built up image of characters from reading, I find it depends on how well the adapted the source material. I was really worried thus would happen for me when Artemis Fowl came out. Luckily it did not because, tbh, what came out was NOT Artemis Fowl.
@BaileeWalsh

I love this! Please do more! It's casual and thought provoking but still your usual style with the editing. I feel like I don't picture people exactly when I read, like in terms of details. Faces are just kind of a blur. In my mind there's a melding to an extent of all the objects, scenery, and people that have been described. Or at least it's not the same when I'm picturing a real person I've seen before or am familiar with. But yeah I'm the same with the characters I pictured vs. actors who portrayed them- it depends on the book and my experience reading that book and seeing the adaptation (or at least pics/trailers.)

I love this more casual and chill style of content too 😍 I dont have ppl to discuss the little things about being a reader irl so it's so nice to get what you think about several topics. On whether I can remember the characters I made up after watching the movie, for the most part I can, especially cause my brain has kind of a pre-set cast, it just changes slightly 😂 but I'm terrible at world building and design so normally my settings start looking like the movies'. And as for the eras, phases, stages (😂) mine change so quickly i just usually have a list of top books I'm interested in in every genre I read and go through them every time I don't know what to pick, my mood becomes more clear when I think about specific stories, I believe 🤔
