when browsing for books to read, i always look for book reviews. that is why i bring you a reaction to 1 star reviews of my favorite books, and (perhaps) unpopular book opinions that quickly turned into a very chatty video about the books i've read recently and me losing my mind over some of the new book releases of 2022/popular book releases. booktube has buzzed about some of these books… and i've certainly loved them😏 i hope you guys enjoy this one and come out with more books to add to your TBR and some good book recommendations for 2022!

When I see one star reviews on my favorite books, I go thru that person's reviews to see which books they actually liked. Those books are usually books that I gave a one star and I feel vindicated. LOLOLOL

I normally do not give 1 star ratings unless I absolutely loathe the book. I gave only one 1 star rating last year to She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan. Initially, I thought the writing was boring, but I was rooting for the main characters. However, I ended up hating the main characters and did not agree with any of the choices they made towards the end of the book. The saddest thing of all, was that this was one of my most anticipated books for 2021.

i agree!! 2/3 stars are more common from my end, just because i can acknowledge redeemable aspects of the story. if it's sally rooney tho? no one can stop me LOL👀🤭

I’m glad you did this video…..and with such a positive/upbeat attitude. I think most of us can get really defensive when other people dislike the books we love, so to see you laugh about the reviews is really fun! When it comes to Middlegame, what I loved most about it was the relationship between Roger and Dodger. That alone would make it more than one star for me. I loved it. However… Klara and The Sun is a book I didn’t like at all. This was an interesting vid to say the least 😅

Mel could do another video making it a bit different. Her brother or someone else reading the reviews for her and she guessing which book is the review from. So, he reading 5 stars rating for books she gave 1. And books she gave 5 they did 1.

okay so about jade city: i’m reading it currently and i’m wondering if it’s meant to be satirical? the tone of the book is so objectifying to women and i don’t even mean the world i purely mean the writing. i went into this book knowing nothing about it so i’m wondering if there’s context i’ve missed that clear this up such as it being satirical to rich mob bosses or if the writing is genuinely just misogynistic lmao!!

i wouldn't necessarily say that the book objectifies women! more so, if anything, it showcases how certain cultural upbringings can normalize misogyny and chauvinism- i viewed it, and i believe it's meant to be viewed, as commentary rather than anything else🤍

I NEVER would’ve picked up Jade City in Middle/High school even though I always read above my grade level! Not sure how anyone gets a Stephen King comparison with Middlegame 😂 I could’ve SWORE you finished and loved The Starless Sea! 😅 I plan on rereading Strange the Dreamer because I believe I was in a slump when I read it with the Citadel and I wanted to like it more than I did (3 stars)! I have not read the last two books 😅
