Here are some views of the Reading 2100 when it ran the infamous "Tacoma Sightseer Express" Since some people may not know. The train only ran one season with what appeared to very low ridership at the end. The locomotive last I heard is in Richland WA. The F40PH is at CEECO in Tacoma WA. As for the cars I dont know.

I say sell the thing to the Reading and Northern! They need to get the stupid ditch lights, paint-scheme and deep-toned whistle off her! Also convert her back to a COAL burner! Thomas Payne made a poor choice in buying the engine...

An N&W J whistle, just like the one worn on 611 (Though the pressure difference makes a completely different sound)

I saw those cars down in Portland (out toward Milwaukie/Oregon City) parked on a spur. This was around New Year's 2009.

This is what a sick T-1 looks like. It should not be barking at all with three commuter cars and diesel assistance .

Sounds like the F40ph is doing most of the work. Nice looking loco tho. It could definately do without the ditch lights.

Issues with ownership and a general lack of ridership doomed it.

I agree that the F40 may have helped out in some places...but didn't they run at full throttle just to keep the HEP up and operational? Every time I saw a MU of F40's and Amtrak equipment at a station, the first loco was always idling nicely, but the second was running at notch 8. Perhaps they also used it in MU for the ex-CNW cab car for the return trips back to Tacoma? Just wondering.

50 bucks to ride a ex commuter bi-level to a industrial park wasnt exactly worth it. Even the Spirit of WA dinner train failed on this line years later.

@DanielVolker yes i agree the placement of the burner was poor in the firedoor and not in the standard place under the boiler at the base of the fire box like 4449 or 844

Bring the 2100 to port clinton pa restore to reading specs restore the 2102 and double head up and down the gorge.

@qlancer For the most part it has been shown people don't care what the engine looks like. It was the cars and ride that killed this one, not the locomotive.

Its that darn oil conversion! Very pathetic. The 2100 can barely pull itself on level ground. Why this run is "Famous" I have no idea. Look at ANY video of it running in Washington. The F-40 does ALL the work. Hell, the engine doesn't even make enough steam to blow its own whistle correctly. Thats no 200. A buck fifty MAYbe. Anyway, VERY sad.
