Reading 2102: Superpower on the High Iron, 1972-1973

A compilation of Super-8 films I took in 1972 and 1973 of ex-Reading 4-8-4 No. 2102 in excursion service. Also includes footage of 2102 in the guise of Delaware & Hudson 302.
This is a new version of a video I originally made in 2015. Its music track caused it to get blocked on KZbin, so this version uses a different recording of the same piece.

One thing I found out about the T-1's are that they were almost 4-8-2's. The T-1 had 465 cubic ft. of firebox space while the K-1 2-10-2's had only some 20 cubic ft. less. The only thing that made the T-1's 4-8-4's was the Franklin trailing truck booster. Otherwise a Delta single axle trailing truck (vs. the Cole trailing truck on the 2-10-2's) would have still carried that firebox.

Wow shame this wasn't super 8 with sound or you had a reel to reel recorder to mix the two together later these were all incredible trips especially on the Erie and Lackawanna lines.

For a couple of years, I brought my cassette recorder as well as my Super 8 movie camera on train chases--see my 759 films. But I stopped because it was just too much work. Wished I hadn't.

@@SpeedGraphicFilmVideo audio is my favorite I shoot some video and stills but my recorder is always going. Of course it's digital now with just a micro sd card. So easy

The Reading T-1's were actually built in Reading's own shops, with some help from Baldwin and others.

Lima Locomotive Works is credited with developing the first "Superpower" (high speed, high steaming capacity) locomotives, but the term is used to describe an entire generation of steam.

Ok, that may be the case, but I dont recall Baldwin or American ever using the name. I suppose it became a generic, like crescent wrench.

@@Bob.W. - Ironically, Baldwin and Lima would merge in their later days, and be known as Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton. Therefore, a Lima trademark is appropriate to use in this particular instance with a Baldwin product! These started as Baldwin Consolidations, but were rebuilt in-house by RDG.
