Nah the 4.62 should totally count as a win, because if you round to the nearest tenth, it would round down to a 4.6, and you were only making guesses with one place after the decimal.

I love Dylan, so the second I saw this come up it reminded me of his guessing the rating based off the movie trailers series he does, and was so excited when I saw you got inspiration from him!! This is such a good idea to do with books as well!

The bit when you were holding up Eileen and talking about prizes not equalling public liking them made me laugh. I’ve had really good luck over the years with Booker Prize short listers and winners. It’s how I found one of my favourite authors and one of my favourite books by another author. However, it led me WILDLY astray with Eileen. I hated every second I spent reading that book 😂

The video clip from when you spilt the smoothie 😂😂 thank you for including it. Also I can't believe how good you are at guessing the average ratings!? I've always thought they were so random but I guess you have made sense of them!

When you were describing how characters talk to each other in Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, I was so intrigued to know if the book was originally written in English or not. The way you described it sounds exactly how Polish people talk to each other sometimes lol. I come from a Polish speaking family so it set off my sensors. I looked it up and it was originally written in Polish and then translated! I wonder how the translation piece impacts ratings.

I truly don't know how this happens to me!! I recently did a "books I've never heard of" vlog and I found out that so many of the books were *so incredibly popular* it was actually embarrassing. I'll pretend it's because I'm Canadian, or maybe that I often avoid learning about bookish prizes cause I automatically assume the books will be too dry or intellectual for me. I'm so glad to hear you enjoy his book as well- I will definitely look into more!!

Since you enjoyed A Little Devil in America, I can't recommend his other essay collection enough, They Can't Kill Us Until They Kill Us! It's essays on music & bands he loves. There are some sections that are about being a Black fan, and on grief & youth, and I genuinely teared up during some of them even when they were for bands I wasn't that interested in! The audiobook is particularly good (some parts of more poetry-adjacent so he reads it like performance poetry and he adds notes to some essays of what he'd change if he wrote it today).

IMMEDIATELY clicked on this when I noticed A Little Devil’s cover in the thumbnail, he’s local to me and I love seeing his books discussed on booktube because while he’s received lots of accolades in terms of awards I feel as though nobody I follow on booktube has talked about him!! Hanif is a true treasure and I’m so excited for his new book and SO jazzed you enjoyed it! It was a 5 star read for me as well - I love that you wanted to check and see what people were saying and what their favorite essays were, I think my fave essay is either On the Certain and Uncertain Movement of Limbs or I Would Like to Give Merry Clayton Her Roses. Those two I always end up going back to reread. I highly recommend his poetry collection “A Fortune For Your Disaster” as well! ❤
