I also just got done reading cackle, and I loved the writing and the message, but I agree with you on the characters and friendship. For whatever reason, the writing and the message overshadowed the downfalls for me. Also, Ralph had me rethinking my fear of spiders. Once and future witches has been on my shelf for AGES. The fake dating a demon book intrigued me because of the title, but after my last rom com, I'm scared that it won't be my thing

I'm glad you enjoyed it!! I definitely feel in the minority because I had heard nothing but great things. I think jumping spiders specifically are the cutest little fuzzy guys up close lol. What was the last rom com you read? For me, it's definitely going to be a once in awhile thing.

I need a physical copy of Slewfoot for the art alone, and hopefully I enjoy the story more. So glad you finally got to The Once and Future Witches! It was a low 4 star for me. Loved the writing, the historical commentary, and just living in the world of New Salem. My issue was that it was longer than it needed to be in my opinion. 🕸

The artwork elevates it so much!! I think you would really like it. I feel like I've just been super picky lately 😬 totally agree that once and future should've been a little shorter! Definitely could have cut out some stuff because there was just a lot going on and I think it could've packed more of a punch if it was so chaotic but great writing throughout

ahhh excited to hear your thoughts on Slewfoot! I also love reading about female friendships, I need to get to cackle still! Your initial thoughts about cackle sounds exactly how I would feel. I can't read about characters who self-pity, it gives me the biggest ick! ahhhh im so nervous to read cackle now lol yay nestlings!! I also really disliked how negative the character felt about herself but I think it’s because we are on the other side of her development arch. Cackle would have been amazing if I read it 5 years ago during my self-love/self-development era 😅 16:19 my thoughts on the Sophie friendship is that Annie simply replaced her ex with Sophie, continuing her co-dependent streak. Cackle is my least fave RH book! I have been saving Slewfoot for some reason 😂 I have no clue what. One of these days I will get to it 😅 I really want to try Krampus at some point, too!! Ahhh! Your so sweet. Thank you for the kind words 🥰 and Witch’s Guide was very enjoyable for me!! As far as what I have read in the witchy romance genre, it’s unique for its self-development plot line for the female MC. It’s probably my fave witchy rom com so far. There’s a sequel coming out soon!!

I feel like I definitely may have liked it in my younger, antsy/dramatic years lol. Yesss continuing that co-dependency was definitely there. That's why I was waiting for Annie to realize that and learn to be by herself for real and not be so controlled by sophie, but then they live together! 🤦‍♀️ I just got krampus, I'm reading it next month if you wanted to do a buddy read! No biggie if not :) Oh of course!! It's true! Ooo does the still follow Mariel and Oz? Or is it more built into the same world/characters. I feel like I've heard a lot of romance specifically doing that

I just finished cackle! I think you’re supposed to be worried about Sophie and see the red flags before Annie does and I think it’s supposed to be meaningful that the reader easily dislikes Sophie. I think it makes it creepier, etc

Yeah I definitely think that was the intention. I just didn't find Annie to realize that herself at any point, and the ultimate ending just gave me nothing. But I hope it was a good read for you!! So many others love it 🖤

I def found Sophie to be a manipulative villain the entire time & the end with how Annie was portrayed I feel like she became Sophie & it gave me bad vibes

Right!?! When Annie was mean to the coffee guy (Oskar I think?) I was like wth, what are we doing here. And then the ending didn't even feel like Annie grew much. She got over her ex but seemingly just moved onto a different type of co-dependent relationship. Such a disappointment.
