I feel like this book would have worked well as an 8 episode limited series because then they would have had the time to develop the characters and have more scenes with Finch and talk about his character arc and story. the movie had a brilliant cast and did well with pushing the message and themes of the book across but it was missing alot.

Yes, yes it should have. Like 13 reasons why, although that was a disaster. I hated the 3rd season 😂

I don't know if anyone's stated this yet, but I think you'd like to know that the book was kind of a real story? Like Violet was supposed to represent Jennifer, the author, and Finch was supposed the represent her boyfriend who killed himself (and Jennifer found him) so I guess it's kind of a personal story? Also the song at the end of the book? That one's totally real too. Jennifer's boyfriend wrote it about a "perfect day" they spent together and left it to her. I really love this book by the way, it was nice seeing someone else experience it.

The part that made me mad was that they made him yell at her when she was the one who yells at him and then leaves. People who haven’t read the book are probably gonna think he’s a bad person, as well. :(

the movie missed out the bell tower and they don’t focus on Finch’s fatherly issues as much, there’s also no talk about Violet going back and to the places when finch dies and they rush the relationship between Finch and Violet which is sorta upsetting

yeah, I was hoping to see in the scene where she goes to the largest rubber ball thingy if I was not wrong I read the book many years ago, I don't know why but this scene was stuck with me, and when she went and saw his shoes on the tree ugh it still hurts :'(

This book fuckeddd me up. I absolutely loved this book. As someone with a mental illness (anxiety & depression) who tries so hard to stay “awake,” as Finch puts it, I related to his character in being afraid to be labeled or thought of as a freak because of the thoughts in my head that I can’t control and having to pretend to be okay around everyone else. The end absolutely destroyed me emotionally, so I definitely don’t see myself reading it a second time. In terms of the movie, I loved it! It definitely did illicit a very emotional response from me at the end the way the book did. I just wish we would’ve seen more things from Finch’s perspective, as we did in the book. I wish it would’ve been longer and I wish we could’ve spent more time with these characters as their love story progressed instead of rushing through it in a montage. The actors did a fantastic job, and their chemistry was on point. This was the first video of yours I’ve seen, and you just earned a sub from me! :)

Finch’s depression was the closest I’ve seen to my own depression and this book devastated me. I made the mistake of finishing it right before going in to work and ended up sobbing in my car.

Loved this. ATBP is one of my favorite books of all time. It still gets to me all these years later. I totally get why it’s polarizing. What helped me to understand the story more, was to read up on the author. Finch is based off of her high school sweetheart, and what she dealt with with him. 🧡🖤🧡

this book has made me feel a way that no other book has made me feel. it really showed that even though he knew he was ending it all, he knew that even the day, week, month, and even year after, violet would still be on earth. he left things behind that she would be able to keep with her for her whole life.

I haven’t seen the movie yet but I’ve read the book. I cried so much reading it haha. But when I saw the trailer, idk why I felt like the chemistry was off. Like Justice was a good Finch but I wasn’t convinced of Elle to play Violet in the trailer so I wasn’t so enticed to watch. But I like this review on both!

I am so glad I found your review. I read all the bright places when it came out and I loved it. I felt like finch was a great representation of how a lot of people feel when it comes to mental illness. Like I am from Illinois and I know the book is based in Indiana and I felt like the school systems did not really discuss or care about teaching mental illnesses and a lot of people felt like Finch in my school. The movie I felt like focused way too much on violet's mental health than finch especially with leaving out his parents and even younger sister. Finch's storyline in the book were very relatable and needed to be portrayed better in the movie.

Haha, if I disappeared for a few days, my mom would have the police and the army out there looking for me. She would not be chill about it. I think this is one that I'll watch, but not read. I hate books with sad endings... I mean, I hate that in movies too but usually those take less of my time.

THANK YOU SOOOO much for your video...I truly loved your honesty in this video of your thoughts about this book and film. I have a hard time with watching reviews of films based on books. But I love how you were so honest and not hating down so much on one side. I loved the book and I adore the film and I know people have their own opinions about things but sometimes we have to understand that we do, we do have our own opinions and we have a right to feel what we feel. Your video was very beautifully done and I enjoyed every moment of it. So thank you again for this review of yours on All The Bright Places book and film adaption.

I loved the book honestly. I get this book is pretty polarizing and some people feel especially Finch fall heavy into the romanticism of mental illness but this for me was one of the first books I'd read in SO LONG where mental illness wise, I felt seen. I legitimately felt like I saw seeing two characters go through their own struggles with mental illnesses and their own thoughts and experiences and instead not dumbed down, not a stereotype, not just "tragically beautiful" but legitimately two very good characters with their own struggles. The movie I think while has it's pros, didn't quite live up to that for me, really neglecting a lot of things we needed to make the story more complete. A limited series might have been better honestly. But yeah despite how others feel about the book, I really felt seen in this portrayal. Like this was really written by someone who KNEW how it felt not just someone trying to conjure up a story from that perspective. I saw pieces of myself and my struggle in both Violet and Finch yet they still felt like overall good characters to me. Love this review!

The movie did not do the full story justice. Full stop. That's it. If you cannot tell a story properly in the length of a movie, do a series. If you can't, leave it the F**k alone. But for the love of all things holy, do not pick the original story apart and f it all up. Sorry, sorry, sorry for ranting. A watched the movie last night, and am still soooo pissed at how they left out/and or changed all the most important parts.
