I loved the books Books 2, 6, and 8 were my favorite and I was so happy when I learned they were making the show. I loved how they put a twist to who Kate was, not so much what was done with the plot in some moments of the season, but in all, season 2 didn't leave me disappointed as season 3 did. I was never a Polin fan so I honestly didn't care what they did to their story, but I felt a letdown with how Whistledown was handled. I expected better, it was clumsy and messy. I think many plotholes ''worked'' only because actors were good and you are taken by the performance enough to ignore the plot and things that do bother you. Luke and Nickola did an amazing job, I just don't like their book that much. I needed more of Kate and Anthony. I understand they had other projects and they couldn't be there for the entire season, but I feel like they were really needed. I hope they will be more present when the little kids' seasons come. I loved Hannah Dodd as Francesca, even before they said she would join the cast, I could see her as older Fran so I was happy with her casting. I loved how they dealt with her and John and their ''different and quiet love'', compared to the usual chaotic romances in the family. I loved her and Violet having differences in opinions over what love is and how you should express it. I think there is a lot of that in Fran's story in the book and that is important for the marriage she had and the new love interest that would come ( I did wait for Michael to show up at some point). I do have a problem with letting go of Michael. He was one of my favorite characters in the books. I was waiting for her season just for him. And this is a bit of a letdown for me. I really want to give it a chance, but I am not there yet. I like the actress, I saw some of the things she did before and I have no issue with her and John being black or Sophie being Asian. So, for me, the race is not an issue. I just don't think it fits her book and I felt more of a vibe with Eloise and Cressida ( I was rooting for them to be an item) this season than Fran and Michaela. Female rake, an underground queer scene in London or even Scotland could be fun, but there are parts of Fran's plot that would be lost and I found very important to me. First, the loss of a child, then infertility, and in the end assurance from your partner that they love you more than a title, name, estate, or anything that was a symbol of your status at the time. With Michaela, we KNOW they can't have kids. Yes, they can have wonderful love, deep connection, and all that, but they know that infertility is not their issue, it is a given that no matter how much they are intimate, no child can come out of it. That validation from the partner matters and the fact that he told her so many times that she is all that he wants and needs is an important message to many women. Also the importance of seeing how many women are surrounded by their friends and family that have children without any struggles and how that affects those women. Seeing her younger siblings having one or more than one child after five minutes of marriage and her struggling for years....And especially the meaning of finally being able to have not one, but two children. Implementing a same-sex storyline is important to the audience. With Benedict, this season I felt it was too sexualized and more about experimenting in bed than attraction to the man in question. I would love to see a deep connection and love between two people of the same sex in the story. I loved it in Queen Charlotte. I wanted it to be Cressida with someone, maybe Eloise because actresses have amazing chemistry, but I was sure that would not happen because of her and Philip. I believed showrunners had to keep the pairings like in the books, with small liberties like changing their race, appearance, or something that wouldn't divert from the plot. We still have 100 years until the season 4 gets out. I have time to process the change and mourn the loss of one of the loved characters.

I do think a lot of the underlying issues with the writing stemmed from the problems I have with the vast majority of the romance genre. So much conflict is just miscommunication and nothing deeper. So many arguments are just fixed with sex. I thought it was such a good idea to delve more into the drama and consequences of Lady Whistledown, but then they absolutely fumbled the reveal by making it into a girlboss arc. They wanted to give Cressida more depth, but then they clawed back all possible growth for her because it incovenienced the rest of the timeline. They made more than enough changes to piss off the book purist weirdos, but then they chickened out on making any kind of risky creative & emotional decisions, so it all falls apart. I'm never going to watch S1, I really like S2, and I don't think I'll bother rewatching S3. Who knows what the future holds? I applaud the chances this production team have taken so far, but I'm not optimistic about the future.

If Bridgerton was made in the early 2000 Penelope would've been arrested😂 and in front of everyone at a ball Then Collin would have no choice but to bail her out, BREAK HER OUT, or stand by his woman at trial😂 it would've been so dramatic a whole fanfic

1) I was also hesitant about the whole Francesca maybe not loving John after also thing. 2) If you want to see a positive representation of an author/producer standing behind his cast when people are being racist, read Rick Riordan’s response to the racist backlash when the cast of the Percy Jackson Disney+ show was announced.

I know that even Nicola thinks that Penelope considers herself separate from Gossip girl. But, no..) Penelope has nowhere to be herself. Not with anyone. It is forbidden in society. And this part of her is not for gossiping. Oddly enough, this part is for protection. With the help of gossip. And also for revenge. She has no real weight in society to say that out loud.

And this sex with prostitutes is not shown for the sake of sex itself.. there is no sex in fact. They are lying. Kissing. Everyone. This is shown as IMPERSONAL sex.. It's not easy, like Anthony, to fuck some singer like crazy. He doesn't throw money on the table. There are two girls there. Depersonalized. But without humiliating them. My God, why do you all have so much puritanism when you want suffering for the hero, Colin, who treats women better than all your muscular chauvinists Simon and Anthony..)))

Sex with courtesans is an integral part of the life of high society men of that time. Especially unmarried men. In one of the previous seasons, your universal favorite, Anthony, yelled at Colin, lamenting that he did not take him to brothels.. and that's why he's so naive.. Colin took your pet's advice.. and it shows how he wants to look like an "adult".. Enough of this puritanism. Sex is a part of people's lives and relationships.

In general, Penelope turns the plots of all seasons for a reason, so that she should be erased as a gossip girl in this series. I personally expect her to become as influential as Lady Danbury. No less. Her brains shouldn't run down her breasts into her babies' mouths) And I write all this as a person who fiercely hates gossip, mind you..) I just don't deny the power of talent, purpose and public demand) Eloise, with her own desires to change the world, let her do it herself))) If her family allows it...hahaha)
@ElenaKozyreva

Which way should Penelope's character develop without her column? Towards having children? I don't even quite understand why on earth she had to trade gossip for moraliz.. for the sake of those who did not accept her in the world? For the sake of those who only talk about how to change the world, but do nothing themselves? Isn't there too much honor?!) She protects herself, shapes society like Lady Danbury. She's doing great. And she's telling the truth.. even if it's tough. This is her talent. The queen herself is competing with her.. Saint Colin would do well to become both a mentor to such a woman and her disciple. It is precisely because of this difference that they are ideally suited to each other.

I didn't look at Colin and Benedict with special interest until this season just because they were immature. They are still boys until season 3. Both suffer from idleness and lack of purpose in life. But both are the kindest. Colin is correct. Benedict is the most tolerant. A little experience and difficult partners.. and they will have something to occupy their brains and where to be useful. They're wonderful.

And basically, why the hell are we criticizing Penelope's choice?) He's right, the best of the Bridgertons. According to Nikola. Unlike Simon and Anthony, he does not have childish complexes that he would cover up with whore and abusive behavior. He has a sense of humor. He cares about women. He is noble. He is so romantic, noble and committed to a relationship that he is embarrassed about it.. and all this is considered naivety and stupidity.. only Penelope knows the real value of this golden boy)

From time to time I hear these horrors about the fact that Colin must suffer because he did not love her, he told the truth.. guys, you have no desire to stop blaming him for the fact that he did not love her, thought she was smart, but the decency of the world did not allow them to be such friends as men and women can be now. To be alone, to relax, to discuss whatever they want.. All that can be attributed to him as guilt is blindness. He didn't see her love... God.. such people happen so often that if everyone were punished, everyone would become neurotic. Wake up. He doesn't owe her anything. He spoke of her as a friend. But he did not argue and apologized.

2020 Emma succeeds as a movie as much as it fails as an adaptation. Though fun and breezy, its presumption - highlighted in the way many Austen fans react to it - turned me off. It's Emma for people who think they know better than Jane Austen how the book should have been written.

I'll tell you why the Michaela reveal deflated me, and it's very specific to the experience of a dark-skinned Black (read: of sub-Saharan African descent) woman. Our first, and likely only major character experience in all the Bridgerton universe is to be masculinized. As if society doesn't already take every opportunity to saddle us with that burden within out community. Misogynists throw around "looks like a man," "looks like a dude," "seems more like a dude to me" like a slur when they want to tear us down. Shona Rhimes knows her audience inside and out, or seemed to, yet she goes and crystalizes this very hurtful trope in one of the biggest pop culture outputs of our time?? Subconsciously, and even in the tiniest, most fleeting way, typical America, who might not work with or befriend a DSBW in their lives, will see Black women as men. It's okay to push us aside; we get back up. It's okay if we're the breadwinners; we can take it. *If you're ever in trouble, run and find a Black woman. She will help you.* Marina was a memorable character who made two seasons' appearances, and she was eventually rescued. Mrs. Mondrich, along with her husband, comes into money, a payoff for standing by her man--and out of true love! Madame Delacroix? I love a self-made atelier who lives on her own terms. The queen reigns over the ton. Great. They're in the sisterhood and I love them and *begrudge them nothing*. But they are all either biracial or light-skinned. Shondaland goes no darker than caramel in deep winter with speaking, regular characters that we can form an opinion about. The first dark-skinned Black woman we get--and she is an absolute beauty--and she's been gender switched? And I know it's a fantasy; we have to be big girls, turn off our TVs and move on. But DSBW don't even get to exist in that world as a major, feminized character. That's always been withheld from us, and we've always had to be the bigger, more mature, more reasonable person about and just deal.

"But Lady Danbury is dark-skinned." Yes, and I love a dark-skinned titled dowager woman. I also watched "Queen Charlotte" and while Arsema Thomas, is stuuuuuuning, how does a top-tier beauty only manage to pull a husband who looks like a gremlin? Okay, social pressures, but when she becomes widowed and takes a lover he's just some other old guy?? This is the Bridgerton universe, mind you, which has redefined the glow-up for romantic male characters. It's just another doubling down how society valued DSBW. Her circumstances bordered on rape, and after she survived that, we really only see her sort of mothering the biracial duke and advising other DS women (not African) on navigating Mayfair. Again, we sigh and we deal.

Whole-heartedly agree with everything you said! This season just came off as very superficial (which to be fair, no one's really watching Bridgerton for depth, I suppose), but it just seemed egregiously so this time around. Colin suddenly be pushed on us as writer and this self-sacrificing person when in reality he is a dude on a perpetual gap year, and of course the "and then they all clapped" speech at the end. Nothing felt earned. Also, side note, have you watched My Lady Jane? I would love to see your reaction to it. It's a fun time and the leads' chemistry was absolute fire. Like Kanthony levels.

Hello, I for myself am fine with the gender switch of Michael. Read the books long time ago and if the story will be good, all is good. What I had problem, is, that in the books, Michael fell in love at the first sight with Fran, and from her side feelings developed with time (if im not right, correct me, is fine). So I would prefer it similar way I think. I think the inner conflict between loving John and developing feelings for Michaela would work better for me personally as in the books she loved John deeply, but here it was like yeah shortly after wedding a crush on other person - that did not land for me. The attitude that the actress, that plays Michaela, landed for sure. Gorgeous, energetic, fun - i think I will like her, if the story will be good. I guess we will have to wait and see :-)

He's not getting much love in any of the comments, so it's obviously a personal preference, but Jeremy Northam is Mr. Knightly to me. And, although I don't care for the casting of Emma in this version, it's very easy for me to see how he could be perceived as a wise and affectionate brother figure, only to realize that you now see him as something far more integral to your adult life and the path of your happiness. I love that version best simply because he makes the most evolutionary sense to me.

The Francesca 'negation' argument bothers me a bit because to me it was obvious from the start that Fran was gay. Yes, she could be quietly into John, and yes, John is super fine and it's a Shame he doesn't get to be the romantic lead in a true sense, but I thought Francesca was written as a gay woman very clearly and very well. It didn't surprise me at all when she was gobsmacked at the end by the luscious woman with the sparking eyes. And honestly, Bridgerton is not a show about soft, subtle love. It's about bodice ripping and tawdry, illicit romances. So fuck yeah, bring on the gay.

I've never liked Penelope and so maybe I'm biased and lean towards all the negatives of her in this season, but trying to make Whistledown synonymous with like female empowerment was a huge slap in the face to all the characters she ruined and the fans of the show. Every time we gasped with shock and indignation at the scandals strewn so callously about in her pamphlets now make US seem like the assholes. "How could we hate a woman who has embraced her power?" type thing, when her "power" primarily consists of belittling and humiliating OTHER women. Pen is NOT a girls', girl and I refuse to treat her as one now because the writers said to. (Also, her romance with Colin was trash. "friends to lovers" my ass, they had NO basis in friendship and they completely rewrote Colin so it makes their romance feel moot as the person she was in love with didn't exist anymore.)

I think they read them and decided to "correct" them through their own eye and its absolutely awful. I liked season 3, but I feel Polin's romance became secondary to Penelope's ordeal with her secret life; I understand the point of her not being able to keep both apart from each other for long; there should've been more scenes of them together as a couple, with her sneaking away multiple times to handle LW business. Also, I began to wonder if there was hesitation to include more intimacy scenes due to Nicola's body but then there weren't many in season 2 either. Maybe they'll show Polin as a couple (not just bedroom activities) in season 4, and the some fallout from Penelope claiming her LW persona. I can see some people addressing her as Lady Whistledown in a mocking tone, or even addressing Colin as "Mr. Whistledown" to irritate him. The writers shouldn't repeat the mistake next season of stuffing stories into it though. There was a lot going on and some side-stories were treated more like main ones.

This is a great defence of Amy . Amy gets a lot of flack simply based on Jo being the one whom we are seeing things through, although Jo herself is flawed. Jo blew the trip to Europe (which she didn't actually really care about...until Amy got it ) by openly showing her aunt she didn't care for her or the trip and wasn't suitable for high society. Amy in contrast was more kind to the aunt , eager for the trip and had showed that she was suitable by her behavior. Amy knew she was her family's only hope of financial security and so did their older and more worldly aunt thus another reason why she gave Amy the trip over Jo. Jo was happily and stubbornly following her dreams yet Amy gets crapped on because she realistically accepted what was needed of her over her dreams...and ended up getting her dream guy and life ( that also secured the family ) in the end. Once Jo rejected him neither Laurie or Amy owed her any consideration or any say in their relationship and resulting marriage as he was not hers to have a say about. Jo only wanted him as a back up plan but Amy who truly loved him wanted him as her husband. Jo did tell him they weren't right for each other and once he truly fell in love with a grown up Amy who realistically suited him much better he agreed with her. Laurie was the proverbial spoiled rich boy who needs a push to achieve and be his best, Amy gives him that push. Jo gets over it..once she gets over herself. The 2019 film is the best for showing Amy's side of things fairly and redeeming her character.

The fact that Penelope wasn't absolutely ruined, Bridgerton name or not, by her reveal shows me that there's no justice in the Bridgerton world. Marina WAS ruined by Penelope outing her, and was only saved by a convenient marriage that removed her from the public eye. The Bridgerton family as a whole were given the cut direct after the Anthony-Edwina non-wedding, and after Penelope's expose of Eloise, they were shunned even further. Penelope got off scott-free, not even a slap on the wrist, for being a malicious gossip, and that alone had me heated.

Ngl I mostly enjoyed the side character plots in this season. Im not a huge bridgerton fan but I did find myself more drawn into this season (I didn't finish season 1 and watched season 2 way after it came out, but this season I watched straight away). I felt like Colin and Penelope would offer a different love story which it did in a way but it didn't feel earned like some of the other couples. I've not been a big fan of Colin anyway cos his character always felt a bit flat, but he seemed like a good person like when he exposed Jack and bought all those guys to the bar. But this season I found his character really annoying cos they tried to make him a bad boy which just didnt feel natural. The biggest let down for me was Cressida. Oh my goodness! This whole show is about how rare it is to find true love and Cressida doesn't have that option and is being forced to marry someone horrible! And it felt like show was punishing her for it, when she was in a really desperate situation with no options?! The way Eloise dropped her so quickly really pissed me off and I was so sad to see her carted off to her aunts. I really hope she has a redemption arc in Season 4 and she finds friends in the ton, cos I found her relationship with Eloise really interesting. Great video as always and loving the hair work! Hope you get all your footage back!❤
