The River is miles better than The Guide. Gorgeous writing and the plot is actually grounded in reality. I am a big outdoors peeson and i have yet to find any contemporary writer that immerses the reader in nature the way Peter Heller does in The River. It's a great book if you want an escape from suburban/urban life and want to know what it feels like to paddle down a river. It's not without its issues but overall i do think it is worth the reading experience if you're looking for a beautifully written adventure thriller that may just entice you to take up canoeing.

I literally unsubscribed from so many channels who do book hauls all the time but never seem to read any of it. It's basically another way to drive consumerism and encourage others to spend. This is why I like discovering smaller channels (and I really appreciate Kayla featuring those in her videos) because they seem more about the reading and less about collecting.

Since you asked for more Christina Lauren recommendations, I would suggest Josh & Hazel's Guide to Not Dating. It's fun, very good, and not too serious. I say that because so many booktubers, who I admire but who don't primarily read romance, view the romance genre as a "palate cleanser" as fluff, before they get back to the stuff they really like to read that is much more substantive, and they get indignant when a romance becomes serious or tries to handle serious topics because that's not what they came to romance for.... I'm not saying that's you, but it is some people I follow. (I tend to ignore romance book comments from them because *I know*. I'm in my 60s and have been reading the genre since the 1970s and know it much more than they do.... ) Anyway, this is a bugaboo of mine and I'm beginning to think I should start my own romance channel by someone who isn't in their 20s/30s - someone whose had a long, long view of the genre - from Woodiwiss to Tessa Dare or whoever the latest darling is now - the highs and lows, etc. If I only I wasn't lazy, low tech, and not camera ready.

Her romances are so layered and complex and well written and over all REALLY good rep of how good romance can be. If I were recommending romance to newbies, I'd say Kennedy Ryan. I absolutely loved this book. I think it represented real life issues and feelings so much more than “just Si and Yas lusting for one another”. Those intense feelings were still there, because their love was always strong and intense. But at that period in time, the grief was stronger. I can totally see myself wanting my husband back, after I came out of such a dark place.

Enjoying your romance reading! I'd love to see you read a Jasmine Guillory sometime (don't think I've seen you read one before). Though it's not one of her more popular ones, I think you might enjoy By the Book. It's enemies to lovers, forced proximity and it's based on Beauty and the Beast. Has a very nice setting in Santa Barbara. However, no steam, unlike Jasmine Guillory's other books. Her books with steam have great, non-cringey steam. As with all of Jasmine Guillory, it's very relaxed and doesn't have a ton of plot. Always very body positive but with very little discussion of the bodies. Highly recommend the audio books as I think of her audio books have the same narrator and she is a very relaxing narrator.

A good slow burn romance is Terms and Conditions by Lauren Asher. It's book 2 of the Dreamland Billionaires series. The first book Fine Print was good too but number 2 is a favorite. I'm reading #3 Final Offer now. I think this series so far is pretty good.

As far as their other books, I would say absolutely yes to The Unhoneymooners (probably my favorite of theirs) I also enjoyed Love and Other Words when I read it, but I remember it dealing with some heavy topics. I’m in the minority with Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating. I truly despise Hazel. She is overly quirky just for the sake of being quirky. And don’t worry, if you didn’t know she was quirky, she lets you know multiple times on every single page just how quirky she is. But again, most people seem to love it, so what do I know? 😅

I recommend reading Roomies by Christina Lauren. It’s a marriage of convenience, forced proximity, one bed romance, plus an Irish musician (☘️🥰). I’ve really only read this book of theirs but love the tropes. The ending wraps up briskly, so it’s not perfection but I would recommend it to anyone interested in reading Christina Lauren.

Halfway through the video (I watch these longer videos over a few days here and there) If you like books where the protagonist is passionate about a hobby, then I'd recommend "Carrie Soto is back" by Taylor Jenkins Reid - ideally the audiobook, as it's a full cast, and is just brilliant. I don't care even a little bit about tennis, but I find TJR's storytelling so compelling!!!
