Wow, we had LITERALLY the *same exact thoughts* after reading 2 of Shari Lapena's books! We read The Couple Next Door and thought it was sooo mediocre. But Someone We Know is even more uninspired. Straight up empirical proof that you can be white + mediocre and not only get a book deal, but become a NYT bestselling author. Her writing is so subpar, and her plots are so low-effort. She relies on insanely stupid characters, especially cops, instead of putting in the effort to plot a sophisticated story.
