I’ve learned the piece about not anthropomorphizing your bird is critical! Once you can step back, observe, and ask yourself what’s really going on here? What’s he trying to tell me? All kinds of breakthroughs happen!!

Timely video for me! Our Ringneck, who we adopted from rescue 8 months ago is extremely quick and gets heightened very quickly in any training session - even after delivering a second treat. I read it as frustration with treat delivery, so switched to lower value treats and super short sessions (it would go downhill fast at 3 cues). Also tried (unsuccessfully) to slow the pace down in an attempt to be clearer and capture ‘calm’. But now I’m wondering if he’s frustrated with the pace and lack of opportunity to earn treats as he’s wanting to engage but I’ve been worried about triggering aggression.

What do you use for treats? I e had my bird for 4 days and haven’t found a fruit or treat that she like yet.

I started the adventure with a Cockatoo Julian who is now 13. Very loving to the both of us. We got 2 rescues an African Gray, who is 36ish very territorial with the both of us. We’ve had her now for 5 years and there’s no change. Then our Blue and Gold. Who is believed to be in her latn30’s early 40’s. Loves me unconditionally but my wife she hates with a passion. My macaw has stalked my wife in the dark while she was sick. Can you Help this situation? I would love to see a transformation with them to the both of us. My Blue and Gold with my wife, and my African gray with myself.

How common is it for birds to become blind?
@garyblack8794Ай бұрын
They develop eye issues as they get older sometimes cataracts and the such I've had 2 blind budgies 1 was found in someone's pool and the other was older most likely

@garyblack8794 o wow ok. Our conure was supposed to be 3 when we took her in 5 years ago, but have come to learn she is more like 16 or so and newly showing her age with arthritis and blindness. We have become a convalescent environment, changing from a free flight home. 💞

This is super illuminating. My birds are early in training. I was wondering if there are any preferred cues for common commands you would recommend as “easier” or “more universal” and therefor naturally minimize accent?
@garyblack8794Ай бұрын
I think short and one syllable but also I train my birds with hand gestures morr then vocal cues they have vocal cues too but mine tend to watch me more and I'm a quieter person
