My friends and I take a weekend twice a year where we rent out a place and do nothing but read the whole time. We talk during meals and meal prep, otherwise no one talks to each other. Everyone has massive stacks of books, and plenty of snacks. After we check out on the last day, we head to brunch and start planning the next one. It is so amazing to do. And I'm the friend that sits and knits while reading book propped up and all, happy to hear I'm not the only one!

4:14 Love how the description of The Perfume makes a normal person think "sounds absolutely horrible and vile". Meanwhile, my German high school apparently went "sounds absolutely great" and made us all read and discuss the book (and watch the movie) for German class in 10th grade 😂
@BlackKnight28955 ай бұрын
True and it was the best book that was mandatory to read at my school. All the others were horrible. (staring at you homo faber and The Sorrows of Young Werther)

Oh my god… I'm also german and we had something that was called literature list every year and we had to read 8 books from that list every year.. and in 6th!!! grade the perfume was one on that list.. thats when I read it.. 6th grade! I was 11 years old 😂😂 Loved it by the way. But I think thats just german culture, traumatizing kids with horrible stories. And I loved it.

The fact that you read only 150 pages in 5h makes me feel much better. I was avoiding watching this vid because i was expecting you to finish like one book an hour, meanwhile im struggling to focus to read 50 pages 🙃. I know i shouldnt feel ashamed to be reading so slowly, but sometimes i feel so unaccomplished when it happens.

Watching the video made me realize that I basically do a readathon with with my mother every year when we go on vacation in the fall. We always reserve at least a couple days purely for sitting in the shade on the beach or in a garden or something and reading. We have been doing that every year since my parents got divorced, which coincided pretty much with when the I started getting into reading around age 10 or so. We always joke that half my luggage is books and (since she has an e-reader) half of hers is the coffeemaker, because those are the things we need for a great time: books and coffee. The only years we skipped were during the pandemic and the year when I was abroad as an exchange student. She also usually does an extra shorter spring reading vacation just by herself in Sardinia where we have friends, and she does nothing but read and go for walks with the dog for 5 days. This year she was pleasantly surprised that I wanted to join her because she always thinks I go on these beach vacations with her for the swimming and the nice weather and it's too cold for that in the spring. But really it was one of the best vacations I had in a long time. I never realised how special our little tradition is and how thankful I am that I can share this hobby with my mother even though we have wildly different tastes. I am 28 now and usually when people ask why I still go on vacation with my mother every year I just say it is because she pays for it and who would say no to a free holiday. But actually I love those weeks where we both get away from all the stress and just enjoy out shared love of books and stories.

I know I commented something similar on your last video, but your vibes make me feel so happy to be a woman? Like I always envied the friend groups that consist only of boys and when they made movies and stuff they always felt so loyal and so carefree and I felt that I couldn’t have that being a woman. I guess it just feels that way to me because of the -lack of good- representation of female friendships in media. You make me feel so comfy and make me appreciate my girlies so much. That what I'm going to have to do. I chose a book as a quick read, but it hasn't captured my interest much and so I've been "reading" it for weeks lol. Need to just get to it and finish it so I can move on.

30 pages an hour, meaning 2 minutes per page, is a really reasonable pace honestly. I used to do communal reading marathons like this with some people on a literature message board when I was a teenager. So, we were all just reading our own books and occassionally posting updates in a forum thread. And all of my IRL friends thought I was a weirdo for staying in and reading books. lmao

I would have a lot of fun doing this challenge! I usually have the opposite problem: once I start a book that I really like, I am unable to stop until I finish 😅(which may sound like something good but it's actual really annoying bc who has enough time to finish a book in one sitting? Like, I usually postpone reading books that I think I'll love until I have tons of free time and end up reading meh books instead). it gives me major anxiety and difficulty to focus on other tasks when I have to force myself to stop reading a book that I was really enjoying, so I think I would love to take a day off to do a readathon like that!
