Why is it that women write so many good books, yet have such bad taste in books?

I think I personally have a connection with powerless that’ll be a great buffer for some of its cliches. I watched the authors TikTok’s and process of writing it for years before it came out, and preordered it as soon as possible, so I really hope it won’t be a let down. (I also haven’t read one dark window (is that what’s it’s called?) and I haven’t gotten around to reading the hunger games) so if anything, I’d be comparing powerless to those one day, which is completely okay, but just stating my thoughts on it.

honestly, you sold me that jacob-edward montage. them getting together with bella would still be a better ending than jacob imprinting on a freakin baby.

How a bunch of teenagers behave when you put them in an arena and order them to kill each other, anyhow. Once they put a bunch of adults in there, it was the last Hunger Games, even if it wasn't a completely bloodless one. Snow had two mother figures, one was a narcissist and one fairly selfless. He wasn't a psychopath, but he was extremely narcissistic. Still had the ability to care about other people. That's pretty chilling.

YAASSS-Amen, to the whole entire subtext doesn't always have to be lgbtqia+ and lgbtqia+ doesn't always have to be subext sentiment! Also, thank you for that Edward/Jacob montage and championing the squandered potential, in general, pretty much regardless of which ship it's applied to. I especially have tended to feel this way when watching anime or k-dramas, not just with triangles, but with archenemies/rivals in general too.😂😂

I haven't finished the last book yet... but .. I like the "triangle" in The Dark Artifices, personally. . SPOILER . . . . . (It's actually a throuple-unless something drastically changed in the very ending.😁 Supporting characters, not the main couple, though; unlike in TMI and TID. ^-^) Cassie Clare actively participated in the social media push for triangles to grow beyond the cliche and for the embrace of poly-ships, even before Korra had aired on TV. Like her or not, she was kind of at the head of the curve at least in that regard.

I really appreciate you pointing out that triangles are often symbolic representations of themes!😊 Some people really do be think so literally and non-literarily, sometimes.

12:42 - No, I was Team Jacob because when Bella said she didn't want anyone buying her anything for her birthday Jacob handmade her something that was actually deeply personally meaningful to her because he wanted to show her that he cared but also wanted to respect her wish not to be fussed over or showered in money, also I didn't believe Edward when he said he'd read Jacob's thoughts I kinda believed Edward was just lying about basically anything he claimed Jacob was thinking. 🤣🤣 The first movie hadn't even been greenlit or cast yet at all. Taylor Lautner had absolutely nothing to do with it. Lol God's honest truth! ^-^

(Also, I literally found next to nothing about Bella personally relatable to me except that we both have brown hair and pale skin...although, at the time, I was really tanned so I had the darkest skin of my whole entire immediate family {I have six siblings and many more cousins} .. but I was still paler than most other people.😅😅😅 Her personality though, annoyed TF outta me 99.7.05% of the time! I almost-almost DNF'd, several times, but I kept reading for all the side character backstories and such. Lol)

9:17 - Stefan/Elena/Damon in The Vampire Diaries existed before Twilight, and probably many others(especially in movies/tv), but Twilight definitely definitely popularized it into the mainstream consciousness with its Team Edward / Team Jacob merch and shite.🤭🤭😅

5:48 - The funny thing is, EDWARD himself likens himself to Heathcliff at one point, if I remember it right and felt compelled to apologize to her for being horrid....but the dumb girl basically just tells him to shut up and not ever apologize for shite because she thinks he's perfect.🤦🤦‍♀️🤦

I think my favorite love triangle is Blue/Adam/Gansey because it's so hilarious. Like Blue ACTIVELY chooses Adam, she refuses to fall for Gansey, only for Gansey's natural charm and goofiness to sweep her off her feet (like boy isn't even trying at this point) and then Adam immediately bounces and decides that Ronan is the one for him 😂

I read Uglies awhile ago, but if I remember correctly, the thing I found so stupid is that when children are born, they get thrown in uglyville where they are raised until they can get their surgery. So then, WHO RAISES THE CHILDREN? Idk if it was said somewhere in the book and I didn't notice or if the book just never says who raises the children until they can become pretties.

12:00 this is why in my opinion, the hunger games is the best dystopian series of all time, and I’m including the classics I have read (I haven’t read brave new world yet). I read it in 2012 when I was 13, back when I had no idea what it meant to be a postcolonial subject. As time has passed and my field has opened my eyes further to way the world is divided and how power is structured, I’ve found THG to just be more and more relevant. In Pakistan our biggest export is textile. For decades after partition, the west got raw materials from us which was cheap and meant we got little money from the exchange, when we were already struggling to stand on our own. Nowadays, what happens is that we farm the cotton, spin the yarn, manufacture the clothes, then send them out. Western brands then attach their own labels to the clothes and resell them in their stores in Pakistan. This is just one example of how deep set and convoluted the west’s neoimperialism is. The bar is in hell, so I’m thankful that you’ve brought this up. I’m afraid westerns really don’t give a crap about the rest of us, we’re as good as nonexistent to them even tho most of their stuff comes from the global south and china. It’s difficult to appreciate dystopian fiction that either just focuses on America, which wasn’t even a western stronghold 300 years ago, or has no allegorical reference to the rest of us, when the global south has been extremely relevant in international politics and history at the very least since the 1900s. Lastly, the Israel/Palestine situation has now shown the west again how relevant the concepts in the hunger games are. Because Suzanne Collins wrote the series with the Iraqi war in mind. Free Palestine!
