As a man, let me tell you I've had whole relationships where my female partner hasn't learned anything about me because she never asked. I've got female friends like that too. I know tonnes about the boring bits about their lives, but they don't know anything about my daily life really. Now, neither do my male friends, but at least they don't force me to listen to their day to day lives. Also, they know my thoughts on politics, current events, films, comedy, religion....and I know their thoughts on those subjects. Maybe other men feel this way too, but I don't really like talking about myself, and I prefer talking about things rather than people.

Hah, I'm a guy who is the opposite way, I often ask more questions about the girls rather than myself unless she doesn't wanna talk about herself. If she dodges my attempts to learn about her I'll answer her questions in longer formats, but typically I am looking for commonalities

the point isn't why someone personally doesn't like "romantasy" the point is that people just want to hate on anything popular with women 🙄

the thing is, fantasy is so amazing BECAUSE of the world building and attention to detail, and taking that away to replace it with horrible character development is a downgrade. especially since most of the new characters are unoriginal, generic, and shallow

i think this is purely lack of experience. they don't know how to handle the date and what to do other then say interesting things and do gentlemen things. they are more nervous then uninterested.

I think we should say what we want, take accountability for our acts. If I'm talking with a guy and he doesn't ask me questions, i tell him straight to his face. We have the power to communicate our needs, if we don't communicate on a first date, we're going to communicate later on

As a man the exact opposite has happened to me, I can name about 4 people that have done this to me in relationships and talking stages. Although I am fairly feminine on an aggregate I think it's less of a gendered thing and more of when you give someone the space to talk about themselves they take advantage of it bc it so rarely happens to people.

Most men learn really quick that asking boring questions like that gives girls the ick. It's one step away from asking her favorite color. In a similar vein most men really just do not care what you do for work because man's money will be "our" money and woman's money will be her money. Dating a cute mcdonald's cashier for that reason is still better than dating an unattractive lawyer boss babe. And asking questions that men actually care about is either offensive or will be seen as being insecure. Asking questions overall is a rapport-seeking behavior and whether you choose to believe it or not overall is a net negative attraction-wise to women. Men simply do things that work.

Watching this reminded me that in 8th grade I too started writing a YA dystopian fiction story 🙃 i cannot believe im about to share this on the internet but here is the synopsis of my story, it’s called Camp Lamplight and i wrote it sometime around 2015: When the current society collapsed, the human race became highly conservative and overly obsessed with carrying on the human race to be perfect. The deformed and different were cast out to the streets to survive on their own. What once was a democracy became a dictatorship and the once friendly suburbs were riddled with crime. To ensure the society remains unblemished, when a child is born inspectors from the government make sure the child is not deformed in any way. If a child is physically deformed they are taken from the parents and put in an orphanage on the outskirts of town, they are raised until they are 16, then they are sent to the streets. If a seemingly normal child has a mental disability, they are killed on spot. They are of no use to progressing the world. If a child has a sickness such as gender dysphoria or homosexuality it is up to the parents to send them to a treatment facility or send them to live on the streets. Once you're on the streets, you never leave, you will spend the rest of your life starving and homeless. This is the story of Josh, he was born a female but identifies as a male. His parents knew that they couldn’t harbor a transgender child, since Josh was registered as Josie, a female. They loved him too much to send him to a god awful “treatment facility” so they regretfully kicked him out of their home. Josh has been on the streets since he was 12, he’s 16 now ,he has been beaten, called a freak and has nearly starved to death too many times to keep track of. He is determined to find a place where he can be himself, it is this desire that keeps him alive.

23:00 - Well, the reason she cannot own up to her desire to be possessed and claimed is because, for women, it is not as fun if they have to tell the man what they want. A man you need to instruct to own you is not really owning you, is he? And her resistance to him is not feminist, but part of the push-and-pull of man-woman eroticism. Her resistance and his overcoming of that resistance is a test of his fitness as lover/mate. If he immediately stops and politely leaves, she will be severely disappointed. But she cannot tell him all this, because that would be like the teacher revealing the answers beforehand to the student taking an exam. Your advice to the main character to rationally assess her true desires and coolly communicate them to the man is hilariously left-brain, non-feminine, businesslike. Maybe some relationships do wind up like this, but the next inevitable step after this stage is one or both partners looking elsewhere for the spark of true desire, for passion, for the unknown and the unexpected. It is not even how men think during sex. At its best, sex is continuously intuitive, creative, spontaneous, surprising.

1) I can apreciate neutral character arc which is meant to challenge the character's views and principle, like Indiana Jones in "indiana jones and the raiders of the lost ark" or Frodon Sacquet (I think). But positive character arc is still my favorite. Is Frodon Sacquet flawless ?? I don't remember. 2) The type of "Strong" character I dislike is the one who can lift people up but have tight muscle, and look slim. For woman, it's more glaring in asian comics, when a female character have the body of a "trained" idol but the strength of a construction worker. For male, it's in novels, when a male character have strong martial art skills and punch like a bull but their muscle are "not exagerated like a bodybuilder's" and are "tight" and "tough" while not too visible. It's link to the asian's milenia old beauty standard of "delicate scholars and nobles who never went in the sun and looks like androgenous immortals" are better than "crude farmers and rude soldiers". So it might just be a cultural issue, but it frustrate me so much! Another character trope I mostly see in Japanese novels is the maincharacter who doesn't recognize that they are very smart, or recognize it but are blind to their own beauty and can't see the blatant attraction in others eyes for their appearance. Like, as a modern guy (mostly young adult), how sheltered can you be to not even think of the possibility that this dude is blushing because they think you are pretty, while you have already recognized that you have a pretty face! 3) I am not against a "flawless" female character from time to time just for the fun of it. Why can men have Dominic Toreto and we can't have...idk Captain Marvel ? 4) I love chosen ones, especialy when it's because they just have this genetically hinerited ability or their soul is actualy cursed to reincarnate when the world is in danger of complete destruction so they never get to have a good life, or the one who choose them is shown to be able to make mistakes so it is possible that the chosen one isn't actualy THE one that should have been chosen. Like, you have a destiny, but that's actualy not good news, at least for you. A prophecy which is more like a curse than a blessing. 5) never had any issue with the winx club syndrome. 6) Self sacrificing character can be good when it is coopled with selfdestruction tendency, self harm tendency and guilt striken heart. They just feels too bad to live but they are too cawardly to end themselves on their own.

I mostly keep to Christian romance novels not only because I'm a Christian but because most secular romance novels focus more on the physical relationship of the characters rather than the emotional and spiritual aspects of it. Even though most Christian romance novels focus on a historical setting a lot of authors (who are mostly women btw) have their female characters have careers and roles that challenge the gender roles of their time like doctors or journalists. The authors also make sure both characters go through an arcs that reflects their faith journeys before actually getting together in the end. I met one of my favorite Christian romance authors at a book signing when I was sixteen. Her name is Tracie Peterson and she's a really nice lady. Tracie's husband is a historian and he helps her with researching her books. Tracie also encouraged me as a writer. Another Christian romance author I love is Julie Klasson. Julie mostly writes novels that take place during the Regency era. Her books aren't Jane Austin but they were definitely the gateway drug to Jane Austin. I recommend The Girl in the Gatehouse. 😅
