What a lovely chat to listen to over my afternoon cup of coffee! It was so fun hearing about The Absentee. And in the end your pretty red winter outfit reminded me of Little Red Riding Hood (without the hood but still).☺📚❤

As I watched you take a little walk through the beautiful snow, it occured to me that in a way, you remind me of a modern-day Tasha Tudor. ❤ Looking forward to starting Evelina.

Emma! I've been a follower of yours for several years before completely going offline and disabling accounts to soul search! I've returned alas lol. I'm so happy to see that you're still bubbly and enthralled with Jane Austen as you were all those years back haha. How are you? You mentions in a previous video that you have a full time job besides KZbin? What do you do, I'm super curious lol! I'm turning 29 this month and have been feeling lost and down because I also love simple living, princesses, and regency era but seeing others my age living SO differently makes me wonder if I'm behind? But seeing you flourish and own who you are in the midst of also loving the simplicities of life is inspiring and I just want to say thank you!

Jane, don’t concentrate on others. Comparison only brings unhappiness. You do you in whatever way brings you joy. Your introspection belies intelligence and sensitivity… trust and believe in you.

Hi Jane! It’s nice to have you back ☺️ Some time offline sounds like a very healthy practice! I took a break during Lent last year and am planning to do so a bit later this Lent as well. I work full time in marketing/communications; I get to write and work with photos and videos, and it's a lot of fun! My KZbin channel has always been my hobby, although it sometimes feels like a second full-time job that I don't get paid for. 😆 But then again, making videos has made me pay attention to and try to share the things, no matter how unexpected or esoteric or eccentric, that bring me joy. It is good to have a hobby that encourages me count my blessings, because I often feel lost and down too, and out-of-place in today’s culture. But I have faith in God’s plan, and as Barbara says, it’s good to have faith in yourself too. It’s easy to worry about others, and it’s a trap I fall into more often than I’d like as well, but chasing down what God has put in your own heart and His will is for your life is what’s important. ❤️

Thanks for the recommendations! You have made me see reading in a new way! Do you also write in your antique/handed down books? Or do you just write down the favorite quotes in a notebooks? I have a bit of anxiety with marking up my own
@BookishPrincess
@BookishPrincess Жыл бұрын
Generally I love leaving marginalia in my books, but I confess I do not tend to mark my antique books, I'm a little too intimidated to do so. 😆 I'm rather cross at the librarians who had no compunction in marking up the spine/edge of the used copies of The Absentee and Thomas Moore's poems that I show in the video!

Your hair looks so cute styled like this! And the Boden jumper looks like it would belong in Anna or Elsa’s wardrobe 😍 I do adore Boden’s designs but I’ve found the quality to be not quite worth the high price tag - definitely worth the sale prices though! ❤

Your enthusiastic review of The Absentee captures everything I love about it and makes me want to reread it soon. 😍 I'm interested to hear more about the plot of Vivian if you read it. I'd like to find another Edgeworth novel that has a similar style to The Absentee and Belinda.

I read the Absentee. I read those Edgeworth books all together is seems. I can remember I liked it but I can't remember anything about it. I would like to have the audiobook versions of these. I am reading Letters to Literary Ladies now by her. It is not long but it takes a while to plow through it. It has a lot of footnotes, and these notes make it better to understand. Her father was a learned man who was a member of the Lunar society which had very famous men as part of it. He was very much a prepotent of science. She took on a lot of beliefs that her father had. Maria wrote all sorts and kinds of books. I just got Lovers Vows! OH Henry! He had quite a liking for it. I can't wait to read Mr. Rushworth's four and twenty speeches. "I am the epitome of the world"...

I thought the free Libravox audiobook of The Absentee was quite good! Maria Edgeworth's father sounds so interesting, I would love to read some of her nonfiction. It's always so fun to come across quotations from Austen! I've just been listening to "The Lady of the Lake" by Sir Walter Scott and came across the "like the bubble on the fountain" line that Captain Benwick quotes in the 1995 Persuasion adaptation.

You’ve convinced me to pick up The Absentee! (although I think I’m going to save it for Jane Austen July because there’s no way I can squeeze it into my already overambitious February TBR 😅 ) You’re right about Evelina…how has this not been made into a film yet?! The scene with the monkey in the drawing room would be hilarious on screen. Somebody needs to convince Autumn De Wilde to do the screen adaptation, I think she would get the tone just right. Loving all your Febregency content! 😊❤📚

Evelina is just made for a fabulous miniseries, the dialogue is even all there ready for them to use. I bet Autumn De Wilde would do a great job, the style of 2020 Emma would suit Evelina too!
