Hey Fern! I’m currently a veterinary assistant going to veterinary school in the US! We typically recommend starting small by just getting her used to the brush you choose (rubber finger brushes are great, or any smaller brushes like for kids), and giving her lots of rewards for doing it. You don’t need any kind of tooth paste, as the mechanical action is enough to remove the plaque. Dipping the brush in chicken broth is a great way to get her to interact with the brush! It’s especially important to start after her dental cleaning (once her mouth has healed) because this is when you can prevent plaque build up. Once the plaques harden you can’t remove them anymore with brushing, which would then need a dental procedure. Hope this helps! Love your videos, as always❤

Hi! Vet tech here. If brushing olives teeth is too difficult, you can try using TD FOOD as “treat” in her food and as treats throughout the day, as well as using C.E.T dental chews. I have an 11 year old chihuahua and he’s only ever had one dental in his life. I hope these tips help!!

I live in Poland and for my cats and dog I use a paste that does not require brushing, it obviously helps but it works even you just manage to put some on the teeth- its an "enzyme paste", dont know if thats the real English name for it. Mine is called ZymoDent. Dont be too hard on yourself for not starting early, I also didn't, we're all just tryibg to do our best as we go ❤❤❤

Hey Fern! I'm the proud owner of two greyhounds (dry-mouth hounds, which makes them needing at least one dental cleaning a year) and my husband and I brush our dogs teeth by taking turns each week night before we go to bed. We slowly introduced them to the toothbrush and gave them tons of positive affirmation, even if they just sniffed the toothbrush or the toothpaste. We use Nylabone oral care products (not sure if that's available in Canada). This includes their toothpaste and their dental water additive you can add in their water bowls that helps control tartar and freshens breath. As far as the toothbrush, we have to use the longer toothbrushes because they have long snoots (we love them for it). The biggest thing is to just be patient and give them tons of love at each small step. Start with letting them smell the toothpaste on the brush, if they lick the toothpaste off the toothbrush even better, and then slowly start with a few teeth at a time and be gentle when you lift open their mouth. If you can only get one section or side of the mouth before the dog retreats, that's ok. That's still a win! Just listen to their body language and don't pressure them/rush them. Eventually you'll be able to get to all teeth, and always tell them how great of a dog they are and give them pets and cuddles. I also found it helps to break it down in-between sections of the mouth. Brush one side or half of one side, and let them lip smack and adjust and swallow the toothpaste. Once they're done lip smacking/swallowing the toothpaste on that section, keep going and do the same thing on the other sections, etc. Don't rush to do the whole mouth in a hurry, if that makes sense. Divide up the brushing into manageable sections of the mouth, and the dog will be much more relaxed. It is possible! My oldest came from the tracks, and I was concerned he wouldn't tolerate it. But after 3-4 weeks of the above actions, he allowed us to brush his entire mouth. Big win for everyone and for his dental health! My youngest we got as a baby, and she doesn't mind at all. She thinks it's fun!

Hey Fern! Curious as to what you’re adding in to Olive’s food for help with plaque. I rescued my boy Bobby in June of last year and we’re gearing up for a serious dental procedure in the coming months. He’s a smaller guy as well and several teeth will be removed, with some having already fallen out on their own. In addition several abscesses will be removed and sent off to pathology just to be safe. 🙃

I’ve not watched the whole video yet but I already know I’m going to love it as with all your videos 💚 I just wanted to let you know that after years of watching you (on both channels) I’ve finally started actually looking after my small (but growing) houseplant collection properly and getting some more and being really meticulous with research etc. I’d wanted a monstera adansonii for so long and now I have one and it’s you that’s motivated me to do so. I cannot thank you enough. I’ve had such a fun and mindful time recently (very much needed) whilst repotting etc. I will add that we had a small fungus gnat problem recently out of nowhere and for years I would have been too hesitant or scared to try and resolve something like that but now, a few weeks down the line and researching thoroughly and getting the right stuff they’ve gone! Feeling like such a failure in so many areas of my life has often prevented me from trying things the older I get (I’m not old haha, we’re the same age I think?!), but having people like you that show determination and patience REALLY helps 🥹 I’ve also read 3.5 books so far this year, again inspired by you, I’ve always loved reading but never made enough time for it, especially when I was self-employed. I’m enjoying it so much, I’m learning so much (I prefer non-fiction most of the time) AND it’s helping to calm my OCD, win win! I just wanted you to know that you are so appreciated and liked from all over, we live sooooo far apart but I feel like watching your vlogs especially makes me feel like I’m at your house with you and it’s so relaxing and relatable. Your food always looks so yummy, I love cooking too and love seeing other vegans making food! 🌱 Also, the fact that you’re so worried about olive’s procedure shows what a loving dog mum you are 🐶🖤 Thank you xxx

Pretty nail polish. Have you heard of sistaco. It’s a mineral bonding polish. You put a base coat and apply the mineral color on. You burnish it in. Them apply the top coat and set with an LED light to cure it. Most polishes start wearing off of me with in three or four days. This has been on a week and still intact. But you mix your own colors. I think you’d like it.

Best wishes to Olive. I talk to my Ollie all day long. He’s my buddy . He had all his teeth pulled last year. Same pup, no issues eating after. He’s got a good appetite. He’s a 10 pound schnoodle. 🐶🐾 we feed him soft loaf meals. I always had larger dogs growing up. Never had to care so much, like grooming is important and the teeth. It was too late for brushing..for Oliver , but to prolong his life, the vet recommended pulling all of them. Thankful Olive is doing so well. Give her lots of love. 🤗 by the way b📚 , I listened to severance, and kind of odd, but I really liked it. What lies InThe Woods, and no one can know, were really good too. Hey, I have question, because I don't understand what the dentist is doing actually to Olive? It is teeth removal or dental tartar? DId I hear correctly that is has to be done each year? I'm just asking, because I also have a doggie, Panda, and never heard about this kind of procedure... Need to educate myself just in case. Poor Sweet Olive, sending her kissed and hugs! Now to watch whole video 💚
@cozyplantlady119 ай бұрын
Hi! It’s for both. They do a cleaning to remove plaque and assess the health of all her teeth and determine if any of them need to be extracted. For this to be done, Olive has to be put under general anesthesia, although I know some places offer dental cleanings where the dog is awake if you have a cooperative dog. It is recommended for her to go every year since her breed is prone to dental issues. There are also products available that help to reduce plaque and keep their teeth healthy - we use HealthyMouth and Plaque Off 😊 hope that helps 🫶
