In the late 40's, early 50's I lived with my Uncle who was a supervisor on the RDG railroad. On weekends he would take me to the train yards where I could visit the roundhouse and watch the engines, including a few steamers on the round turn table. Great memories!

Very nicely done indeed! My favorite scene: the smoke over the hoppers at 15:40 -- lovely, and good for you for noticing it and capturing it. Second favorite: the smoke over the church in Nesquehoning. And the entry into Tamaqua on the return, also top notch.

Some of the old structures, saw better days, needing a crew to patch them up, at least, a make shift, crew rest area, or relay spot for communications, spare parts, monitor security station.. Repurpose the structures, at least a snack bar, coffee bar, pit stop.. Besides, Clam Chowder soup, bisquits, ham/cheese sandwich, might hit the spot on runs. Cold New England winters.. I was mistaken, I miscounted thinking it was a 4-10-4 Steam locomotive.. It's a 4-8-4! Yet beautiful work. :) (Brick mason, roofers, and insulated windows might get that structure sound.) :)

I though that restored operating steam locomotives, such as this, were only being used to pull fun passenger excursions, and such. This one, however, is pulling a long string of freight cars. Can someone explain why this is?
@TrainsAreReallyCool2 жыл бұрын
This was a test run to see how the locomotive would preform. The weight of 50 empty hopper cars is about the equivalent to the weight of 20 loaded passenger cars it will pull on the rambles excursions.

@@TrainsAreReallyCool Okay, thanks.

Trying to break it in, probably. Also getting people used to working with it.
@thundercreekcustoms2 жыл бұрын
They did actually pull revenue freight with it recently. Union Pacific did the same thing with 3985 in the 80s, and the Strasburg Railroad pulls some of their infrequent frieght trains with steam. At the end of the day, they might be beautified for excursion service, but they're still working locomotives.
