Hello. That book Evidence Not Seen is written by my great Aunt Darlene. The book is amazing, and her stories and pictures at family gatherings were the best. She went through so much. But her strength in that time has brought me closer to God. I love her forever for that! I hope to remember scriptures like she did.

Having lived in SE Asia and meeting people who suffered through the Japanese occupation, I was completely entranced by your great aunt's book. I'd love to know more about her. Is there anything else written by or about her? I'm just gobsmacked by her and want to know more.

A favorite I've read more than once, Corrie Ten Boom, The Hiding Place. I've been trying to think of adjectives to give you an idea what to expect and how beyond good this book is.... nothing I've thought of is grand enough. It's one of the best books I've ever read. I couldn't put it down any of the times I've read it. Enjoyed the reviews, please give Joe my sympathies on the lose of his sweet Grandmother. I once heard a friend put it as "Promoted to Glory". What a lovely reminder.

Yes!! Corrie Ten Boom was another impactful book in my life. Definitely worth the read and one that will stick with you for a very long time. I still find myself thinking about events in her book and the insightful things she had to say throughout. Keep a pen in hand when reading it. You'll want to mark some of her profound statements.

I’m so glad you read evidence not seen. But you are definitely right. It’s not a book that you can read over long period of time. You really need to get into it and read through it quickly. I found her because I listen to a tape of her from focus on the family, and if you can find that program that she was on, it is outstanding to listen to her speak.

I read Joni's book when I was in high school and man- that book did the same to me. Captivated me through and through. I'm still emotionally impacted by it to this day, and that was almost 30 years ago. I finished that book feeling grateful for my life, and inspired by Joni. I didn't have to overcome near as much as she did, so why do I approach anything with mediocrity? It was convicting. Whatever your hand finds to do- do it with all your might, because some people lose their hands...and their feet. Joni's crowns in heaven are many, because her story has provided perspective and inspiration to so, so many!

The same here: I read her first book when I was 17, a real formative read for me. It led me to a career working with people with disabilities along with having a theology for suffering which has served me well. Well worth reading her other two books of autobiography too, along with "When God Weeps". And her weekly KZbin video thoughts are such a blessing 🙏

LOOOOVED “Watchmaker’s Daughter” (on your recommendation)! You may want to try “Peace Child” by Don Richardson if you enjoy anthropology/gospel/missions books. Life-changing for me in seeing how the gospel is shared to every tribe and tongue who have never heard of Israel, Jewish people, lineage of Christ, etc. Made me cry, if that’s a plus. 😉

A book that I am recommending to everyone right now is Pearl of Great Price: The Life of Mother Maria Skobtsova 1891-1945 by Sergei Hackel. Its a biography of mother Maria, a Russian Orthodox exile (after the Russian revolution) to Paris who became a nun after two failed marriages and the loss of several children. She started a mission in Paris to help the other exiles who were struggling with despondency and addiction, but when the Nazis invaded the mission became a safe haven for French Jews and she worked with other clergy to help hundreds of Jews escape France by giving them false baptizmal certificates so they could pass as Russian Orthodox and leave. She also helped smuggle out about a dozen children from a holding station before they were sent to the camps. She eventually was caught and killed in Ravensbrück, along with several other members of the mission. It is a biography that has shattered me completely, it is so confronting. We read it for the ladies bookclub at my church and we were speechless and crying together at the end. I especially recommend it cause you so liked that other missionarys biography. Anyone who is moved by the story of the Polish priest Fr. Maximilian Kolbe will also love mother Maria

Fair Sunshine will break your heart and crush your soul, but it is about various Scottish Christians who were persecuted for refusing to say the King of England was head of the church (they professed Christ to be head) and whew, that one had me crying. It's also good for Americans to read because many of our laws were influenced by their suffering to prevent horrors like that in our country.

Christian history usually doesn't have scripture connected to it because it is someone's personal testimony in a way. I pretty much follow Paul's philosophy when reading books. He read more that just religious texts. He read secular philosophy, poetry, and popular rhetoric.

I recommend "Eric Liddell: Pure Gold," by David McCasland. Only 90 pages in, so I guess I can't fully endorse it yet, but I was afraid I'd forget to recommend it if I didn't do it now! So far, great read! It's is a biography of a Christian missionary, who also happened to be an Olympic runner who was featured in the movie "Chariots of Fire." I went to put "Evidence not Seen" on my to-read list, and found it already there, ha! Bonhoeffer looks like a hefty one, but I added that to my to-read list, as well. I also read Joni's first book, years ago when I was a "baby" Christian, and it taught me so much! I like your book reviews; I appreciate that you're honest and say what you truly think about them, and don't just say that you like everything!

Have you read Mark of the Lion by Francine Rivers? It really helped me see what the Jews went thru in the fall of Jerusalem and what one life could mean to soooo many - a little Jewish girl Hadassah. It can help today's Christians understand the early Roman and Greek cultures that the early Christians had to live within and survive. I love the series but the first book was very meaningful to me.
