Your comment about not just being a mom but being first and foremost a follow of Christ blew my mind. I'm not a mom, I'm not even married, but a dream of mine is to be a mom, yet I feel I've already defined myself as a mother before being a follower of Christ in way. Yes I want to raise kids for the glory of God but but I feel I forgot that I need to train myself and enjoy my time with God as a single young lady. ❤❤❤❤ thank you, praise God and may He continue to bless you.

I'm so glad you brought up Mama Bear! I couldn't get past the first few chapters. Mama Bear was said a million times and almost no real information was given. As a woman who craves real theological information, your channel has been wonderful and I hope more women out there will dig into their Bibles and read into the Exegesis of the word.

I felt the same way!! It’s a DNF for me too. At the end of each chapter I was left feeling, “what was their actual suggestion for how to combat these lies?” I could never find their solution!!!

Yes! I am that anti mom group mom… not your sorority mom sister. No hate on those that are. I am like that even with tv shows, extremely slow to jump on the band wagon of trends. My skepticism and questioning has served me right so far.

The Mama Bear book is geared towards helping moms with their kids, and it very clearly states that, it is literally *about* parenting. Reading an apologetics book about parenting and then complaining that it reminds you that you are a mom (the idea that anyone is offended by being called a mom in general is bizarre to me) is not really fair to the book. Like it feels like you probably should not have picked it up in the first place, if the very idea of it "just isnt right for you."

I completely agree. As soon as I started reading it, I thought it is a great resource for moms of older kids or kids in public school. I value Faith's opinion so much, but I know that I don't like the same kinds of books she does. What I want to know is how Biblically sound a book is. I'll do a vibe check for myself.
@rebeccagibbs4672

I think she very clearly said that she was not really drawn to reading it in the first place, but was reading it because she was so requested to do so, and then her feelings about it were reinforced when she didn’t really want to read a book just geared to motherhood in the first place. She even recommended it as a good book! It’s like when someone tells you that you’ve gotta try the spicy salsa and you say “well I’m not a big fan of hot stuff” then they tell you that you’ll love it and you’ve gotta try it anyway, so you try it, and then say “like I said, I’m not a big spicy fan, but I’m sure it’s great for people who like spice” and then they respond with “well, you can’t try spicy salsa and expect it to not be hot” … you’d probably say, “I told you I wasn’t a big fan of spice! Sorry!”

Around the 12/13 minute mark where you are talking about your hesitations with Mama Bear Apologetics is 100% where I have been and how I have felt. I still haven't read it. So often the books that are marketed towards "Mama's" are too light for my taste. I will look at Voddie's book. That sounds like something that will really get my mind moving. Another mom in my church and I were talking about this very topic yesterday. Many Ladies Ministries groups leave us feeling flat. We prefer the Men's Ministry topics (which we can't attend), or mixed groups. Maybe we should consider approaching ladies' ministry more from the academic side for the ladies like us. We can't be the only ones that feel that way.

I finally gave up on women's ministries about a decade ago. They were ALWAYS shallow. Always. Mama Bear Apologetics and any other book directed toward women never make it onto my reading list. I don't even have to crack the cover to know that they will be a fluffy waste of time.

Love the reviews! Michael Card is/was most known for being a singer/songwriter in Christian circles back in the late 80s/90s in my "circle" as you called it. (As in, I probably would recognize the blurb authors ha!) Sometimes he does make things a bit more "light," as you mention - but I also think sometimes it's because it's his songwriting/creative/poetic side coming out in his writing. Love what you said about the mama bear title - totally agree. Added some great books to my list from your recs - thank you!

Love these videos! They've become the basis for my SecondSale reading lists. I'm so glad I didn't waste time and money on Mama Bear. You totally described my expectations of it. Kinda like you said, I've come to realize that if a book is recommended to me multiple times by moms in my circles, it is something pretty basic in depth that I can't get much from. I feel bad saying that, but it is just the truth.

Faith!! After a long day with the littles 😊 it kind of made my night last night to see you read Inexpressible! 🎉 I am not currently a Patreon, 😢 but would love to be someday. I have sent you an email on how awesome the Bible dictionary is! Thank you! Currently doing a 12-wk study on Romans 8 through Ligonier at my church and just don't have the bandwidth, but hope to in the future! Also, after watching your videos enough I have begun to COMPLETELY rethink how I journal. I memory keep, take commentary notes, life journaling ALL OF IT in one journal (since 2019) and candidly just don't go back enough through it regularly to have those notes "serve me" in the future. Unless they're organized canonically I'll just not return to them, so I've been thinking for the last 2 weeks which bible I want to "commit" to and start adding notes!! And the fact you put book quotes IN your bible?! Mindblown 🤯 as an aside, I heavily looked in to Covenant College when I thought I wanted to do premed. I wanted a small liberal arts college before med school. It's a long story why I switched to business and ended up going to the Univ of Iowa, but needless to say the fact you went to Covenant is like really?! You are a couple years younger than me so don't know if we would have crossed paths, but still, how cool is that!! I've never even heard of anyone else who knew what Covenant was. My mom visited there with friends in 1999 and fell in love with the area and planted the seed in me about that place. They actually moved to Tennessee for 10 years because of their love for that area. To study the Bible for 4 years in depth...ah! Would have loved to. 😊 thanks for sharing your insights!!!!

I like when other moms talk about their messes because it helps me not feel alone and give myself grace but if I'm right, I don't think she has children. That may be my problem if I'm right. Hi Faith. Greetings from a fellow book lover and reviewer. :-) Thanks for being upfront about the amount of time that it takes to read a book and prep for review. In my case, it's more of a reaction to what I'm reading. Why am I making such a statement? Last year, I reviewed my first book, in years. I was shocked at how popular it proved to be. So, I thought it would be a good idea to add reviewing books for a Christian audience to my channel. There's just one problem. If not for audio narration and Audible, I'd be struggling to read a book within a week. Yet, I'm shocked at the volume of books covered by booktubers. For me, it's discouraging. With you, I felt encouraged to not worry about my reading or listening speed. Just have fun reacting to what I'm reading. Yes, there are books that I don't have to read the whole book or can devour quickly. No, I'm not reading fiction. Keep up the good work, though.

Maybe you could look at the book and make a reasonable time frame to read it. Maybe start with a book or 2 a month depending on how much is in the book to digest. After all at the end of the day I would rather read 1 book and understand what I am reading than rush through a read and not understand a single thing that I read. I think it would make for a better review as well. You can always add books if you have time.

Great in depth reviews. The one book where you talked about where you didn’t agree with what was said was spot on. The part about Abraham-if you believe what he said about Abraham thinking God was asking what all the other gods would ask-that takes out Abrahams trust in the Lord, which we need to have, total trust and then Gods provision. It bothers me when people change the total intent of the Bible in those ways because it seems to take away from the trust and mercy and love of God.

Genesis and Hebrews 11:17-19 makes it very clear that Abraham reasoned that God would either provide a substitute or raise Isaac from the dead. We don't have to guess what Abraham was thinking.

I was writing a book about psalms 23 as my own story but my mother told me that I shouldn’t take that verse and turn it into a story because it goes against what GOD says in the bible. What should I do?

I guess my one question about Mama Bear Apologetics is: Is it Biblically sound? Like, I couldn't care less if you like it or not. Hate it, whatever. But, is it truth? Also looking forward to hearing your opinion on The Great De-Churching.

This is my question too…I started reading it and really struggled with one of the ways in which their approach to writing the book was described as it did not appear biblically sound at all…I stopped reading and haven’t been able to pick it up again…would love hear from someone who has actually read the book if it is biblically sound or not 🤔

Yes very biblically sound. Its really discussing the "isms" we see today and the historical background of each, how to think through them, recognize them in culture and questions to ask your kids of all ages. Definitely not a super deep dive but I felt equipped to know more about feminism, naturalism, etc.

Yeah, as a childless Christian woman, I definitely wouldn't read Mama Bear Apologetics. I mean, would people read a book called Childless Bear Apologetics? Nope. I just want apologetics for people. And anyone reading this comment -- hey, if the book worked for you, I think that's great. I really do. I just don't like taking a topic that's for everyone and diverting it into very specific channels.

I completely understand your point of view concerning “mama bear apologetics” considering the fact that the author keeps forcing a kind of inappropriate condescension on the reader, making the assumption that mothers are not also readers, scholars, and clear thinkers.
