In regards to oil weight, put a an oil pressure gauge in that is accurate and watch it that will tell you a lot about what is going on. I had a Mazda 2.3 that was using oil and ate itself up. I did a full rebuild, everything in spec, and when hot 5-30 would drop below 30psi at running speed. The spec is 50-90 psi at temp at 3000rpm. Factory oil weight is 5-20, I now run a 5-50 full synthetic which keeps the oil pressure in spec even in hot weather. I have no doubt if I ran factory oil spec that engine would have died in very short order.

Do you have a preferred brand of bumper hitch that you prefer, and if so, what is it and why?

What oil would you run in a Ford 5.0 with 100K living in Texas? Ford calls out 5W-20.

5w30 is best. 5w20 is too thin and only spec'd by ford for fuel economy. I work in a big name powertrain testing lab.

I have a 2012 5.0L and live in Ohio. I have always TIRED to run motorcraft 5w-20 with motorcraft filter every 7-8k miles. Few changes were penzoil or valvoline with napa filters( based on "on sale" ) 0w-20 past 2 winters. 221k miles. Zero check engine light or engine work - ever. The body is junk and the motor will out last it. At this point doubt its even worth the price of timing chain redo.

Hey Bud, what oil you recommend for a 2020 Powerwagon 6.4. Love the engine but always feel the oil is to thin. I am living in Ontario. Thank you.

I'm a die hard for 5w-30 in all gas engines
@PeeterPuncher
@PeeterPuncher Жыл бұрын
So I'd like to clear this up.....I work in a big name powertrain testing lab and I will say 5w30 is best for most gas engines, even 10w30. The only reason for the 5w20, 0w20 oils is for the minute increase of fuel economy. Do not run 15w40 in engines with VCT phasers, the thicker viscosity affects operation. Pretty much everything has cam phasers so avoid it.
@ColtWR
@ColtWR Жыл бұрын
I'd argue totally avoiding it. I have ran it in tons of vct engines after 150k miles with no problems, I'd agree that under good maintenance you shouldn't need more than a 5w30. But 15w40 was designed as an all fleet oil when it debuted. Interested on your opinions on that.

I have ran Scaheffers 15w-40 in triton 2 valve and 3 valve with great success in Central Oregon. It was amazing to see it actually cleaning the sludge out of the engine on the oil samples. Those trucks were ranch trucks, lots of idling, loaded goosenecks, and very dirty conditions. I wouldn’t run anything else under that severe of duty. But I’m also have wonderful sample results with Schaeffer 9000 series 5w-30 at 5-7k intervals in ecoboost and 5.0

Problem is having pickup truck guys get into the mindset of heavy industrial repair. As far as most people are concerned metal shavings in the engine = new engine. Though if my truck was still under warranty I’d probably try and make a case for a long block too lol.

Ok, I found one.. Coltan, if you could check this guy out. I think you may enjoy him as well. My question is, does the additives you recommend, have heavy detergents? Myvintageiron7512 Engine oil What should I use? Video is 9 yrs old. He does have a newer video basically saying some of the same things, but this is good too. He's located in the Phoenix area and teaches in a trade school as well as having hid own shop. Thanks man...

Hmm, ok. So not to beat a dead horse, in the ford 6.2 you would run the 15-40? Has 166,500 miles, and still running strong. The oil has to work through pretty places in the heads, don't it? Thanks Coltan, I enjoy your channel as well. I have channel I'd like for you to check out... but I have to find that video... Thanks again... stay safe

I’ll let Colton give the final judgment but I started running my 6.2’s with the new 5W-30 diesel oil (both Motorcraft and Rotella in my case). They have a much better additive pack than typical gasoline engine oils. I run 5-30 and 15-40 in everything from a Toyota Prius to LS trucks, 6.2 ford, 7.3 / 6.7 PSD’s and all of my equipment.

I've seen long engine life in the 6.2s with just 5w30. I wouldn't be too worried about it.
