My copy's arriving Friday. Can't wait! Hitchcock films are fun. I love Psycho and Rear Window and The Birds! Hitchcock had a way with camera angles.

As always I love this video. You do such a good job of pulling this all together. Feeling mixed about the book as I love thrillers but not horror. Just call me wimpy chicken!

This is one of my most anticipated reads. I do have this on hold at the library, but there are a lot of holds on it. I may just buy it instead of waiting. I knew this author's name sounded familiar when you mentioned Darling Rose Gold. I haven't read it, but I was a member of Book Of The Month a couple years ago and remember people talking about how much they liked that book. I am a huge Alfred Hitchcock fan. I watch Psycho everyone Halloween. Psycho is my favorite Hitchcock movie. I think it was his best. I have seen almost all of his movies. Rear Window and The Birds are good, but I don't think they are as good as Psycho. I will say Vertigo surprised me when I watched it years ago. I didn't think I would enjoy it, but I ended up really liking it. A few other favorites of mine are Shadow Of A Doubt and Suspicion. There is a scene in Suspicion where Carey Grant carries milk upstairs on a tray. The milk glows and shadows on the wall of the stairwell are ominous and spooky. Hitchcock used a battery operated lightbulb in the milk glass to make it glow. I was being babysat once when I was around 3 yrs old, woke up, went downstairs to my babysitter watching this movie. The milk scene was on - it scared the crap out of me. 😄 It stuck in my mind for years afterwards. I don't find it as scary now, but as a 3 yr old it scared me. Fantastic review! TFS!

@@ryreads Yes! I am an old film fanatic! I love them. I don't know if you are in the states or not, but I watch Turner Classic Movies (TCM) every October. They play a lot of really good (old) horror films. One of my favorites is films with Vincent Price. I am a huge fan of VP! Vampire movies (Hammer Films) with Christopher Lee are good, too! I don't know if you know or not, but the main character who played Marion Crane is Janet Leigh (Jamie Lee Curtis's mom) and she said after filming the shower scene she was never able to take a shower again, she only took baths. Thought I would throw that in for a fun movie tidbit! Have a great upcoming weekend and happy reading!

Hi Zach - I was not aware of this new book, but was very curious to hear about it when you introduced it in your video. It's so funny that Alfred Hitchcock did not initially ring a bell to you and then you found that DVD set in your house - LOL! I learned about Hitchcock movies because my mom saw Psycho when she was young and it really scared her, so she had talked about that movie and then we visited Universal Studios Hollywood when I was a teen, where they used some of the scenes from Psycho, Vertigo and the Birds in some of their attractions, so I learned more about those old movies then. I also saw the remake of Psycho (the one with Anne Heche and Vince Vaugh as Norman Bates that came out in 1998) with friends when I was in college.

Ohhh I've been to Universal as well but I had no idea what I was looking at, now I need to go back lol. Do you think you will read this?? Thanks for sharing :) as always a thoughtful comment

@@ryreads Keep in mind I visited Universal Studios in the 1990s and a lot of the original rides have closed since. (Showing my age here... LOL!) I believe they still have the Bates motel as part of the tramway tour in Hollywood, but I'm not sure if the other ride references are still there. Not sure if I'll read the book or not. I did add it to my TBR list, but if it toes the line between thriller and horror, I'm not sure if I'll be drawn to it. Does not look like my library is currently carrying it either, but since it's a new release, they might at a later date.

@@smileycindy I do remember the last time I was there, we went to a makeup show and they talked about how they do things in films and in the store at the end (cuz duh capitalism) they had stuff from old movies. It does toe the line between horror and thriller, though I would say 75 percent thriller 25 percent horror. Completely understand if that's not your thing!!

oh I loved the birds! I used to watch it with my mom when it would come on tv as a kid! we just started recollecting 4kblurays so we have a physical representation of our taste in films, similar to books and vinyl records & what not... only in the last few months did I watch the zack Snyder justice is gray(I think its called) version of the justice league movie. its in black and white, and max aspect ratio(more square) and longer, with what seems like longer takes on scenes purely for the beauty of a shot... I enjoyed! its max streaming, not avail on bluray yet. boo.

I read that book last May and loved it!!! ❤ Do I think it's a perfect mystery novel? Nope. Yet, I loved it! Luckily (for me) I had already watched all the Hitchcock movies the author mentions and spoils the ending in the story. 😂 I first watched Pyscho when I was 16. I hated back then. But that's because back then I was a basic b*tch that couldn't appreciate it for the masterpiece that it is. In my mid-20s I rewatched it and it is now one of my favourite movies ever. 😊
