I literally just sat here yelling out "Yes!!" after almost everything you said about this book. 🤣 I just finished it and I also gave it 2 stars (well 2.5 to be exact) I also sat there for a few hours not knowing how to rate it. I almost gave it 3 stars BUT started to think back about how annoyed I was from about 70 pages onward, so I settled on 2.5. Towards the end I was over it. I just wanted it to end and kept checking to see how much more I had - which is never fun. Ordinarily I would DNF but kept on because this is my first Rachel Harrison book, and I have heard so many on Goodreads say how much they liked it and her other books. I do have Cackle and will probably read it, but I don't have high hopes. If I don't like Cackle, then that is it for me with her books. I also did not think this was a horror book. Very few things happened that I would consider horror. I liked the main character in the beginning as well -- until I didn't. Her friend I knew right away I was not going to like. And yes, the orgy scene! I mean who takes someone to an orgy as a surprise for their birthday?! I was like WTF?! 😆🙄 The main vampire guy is the only part of the story I found mildly interesting. The way she wrote the old woman at the end I thought we were going somewhere but even then it went off the rails. And I will say that I NEVER thought for a minute these were vampires. It felt like they were just regular people going through their lives and drinking blood. Nothing interesting about these vampires, they were boring. The constant arguing between the two friends and going back in time to tell the story of their friendship. I actually skimmed through a few pages towards the end when they went on and on about their high school days etc. I just didn't care. It felt very YA and immature to me. Adult Twilight is a good way to describe it, just not as interesting. I mean even Twilight had a plot, this did not have one in my opinion. I went looking for a YT review here to see if anyone felt the same and imagine my surprise that someone did, almost to a T! 😆 I thought for sure I would be the odd one out. LOL Oh, and I am new to your channel, just subbed. Thanks for sharing!

I'm waiting for my copy of So Thirsty to come in the mail from Aardvark, but I've loved her other books (I've read all of them except Such Sharp Teeth). I see her as writing "cozy horror" so it has some light horror elements, but it's more about the character's journey. I've also related a lot to her characters and how they explore some of the chaos that is trying to be an adult woman in our society and dealing with relationships (of all types - romantic, friendship, family, religion, etc). The horror elements in her books seem to be more of a metaphor for a theme the character is going through, and idk what it is about her writing but it just hits me on a personal level, though I know from her kinda lower average ratings on Goodreads that she's a divisive author. Cackle has been my favorite book by her; I annotated the crap out of that book, but I totally get if it's not for everyone. I think her books are ones that either really hit you because you relate to the main characters, or if you don't relate I can see how her books would seem kinda pointless. It reminds me of when you talked about Midnight on Beacon Street and how that book hit really personally for you, but it has a low overall rating and for me it mostly felt like a waste of time because I didn't have that personal connection and it didn't feel like much happened plot-wise. Rachel Harrison is to me what that book is to you, if that helps make sense of why some of us love her books :)

Yess that’s a great take!! I know someone connects to every book and that makes complete sense to me. She’s not a bad author by any means and I think that’s why I’ve always been confused as to why I don’t like her books. You laid that out well!! I love, that you connect so well to her books. That’s such a wonderful feeling.

I have tried only one Rachel Harrison book, and I felt like I was reading an adult book written by a child.

Really didn’t work for you 😂

I've read and liked all Rachel Harrison books, and Such Sharp Teeth is actually my favourite. 😂 Even though I'm not really into vampires, I'm still gonna read So Thirsty. I love her sense of humour and, weirdly speaking, I always relate to her main characters. Haha especially the one from Black Sheep - the MC in that book is pretty much the female version of myself. 😂

I’m really glad to hear that!!! I know all books connect to someone :)

I felt the exact same way! I liked the start but gave up at 57%. I usually like slow burn character driven stories but this felt like a boring mishmash of cringey fan fic meets failed erotica attempt. My first Rachel Harrison, but I’ll try one of her other books.

You know I never thought about the very obvious erotica that’s a good point. I have read some of her other books and they weren’t like that. I wonder if it’s also because of the vampire angle, they are often more sexualized? I dunno but yeah it didn’t work for us. Some other people loved it though!

I've read one of her books, The Return, and I liked it. It made no sense, wasn't believable, but I enjoyed it somehow. Probably due to the story taking place in a crazy hotel, so what I wanted, really, was the hotel. But I haven't had the urge to read anything else by her. And I still don't! 😆

A crazy hotel story sounds so fun ngl 👀 now I’m curious 😂

I really liked such sharp teeth. I was kind of digging the undertones of identity and reclaiming your identity.
