Sword of Kaigen is a prequel to her existing ya series (which btw she said she won't be finishing, there are two books out), so she wrote it after writing that ya series and all of those things at the end (and a certain character that is present) are basically easter eggs for that series

After I read the book I did my own digging because the ending really threw me off. It being a prequel that you could read as a standalone is totally fine but it was marketed as standalone, period, so I went into this book with different expectations than what I got. Great novel though

regarding the rain, we have a saying in Dutch which translates to: you're not made of sugar (aka, the rain won't melt you so get over it)

My reading has been horrible lately so I’ve decided to take a week off and just take a break to see if that helps! But I’ve been working on a six day star blanket! And it’s so fun to make!!

I was in Japan in June of 99 and loved it so much. We went to the temples and at one we got to join in on what they we doing. It was such a great learning experience. We also went to the ocean. It was so cold in the water. I was also very pg with my son at the time. We spent 16 days there. We went for a wedding in Aomori, spent time in Ikebukuro and went shopping in Tokyo. We went to so many other places but I don't remember all the names. We got to see the rice pads. Even spent a few days at a mountian hotel. It was so much fun. I want to go back and some day I hope I get to. The bullet trains were intense and we almost missed one because the time between trains was so short. I loved seeing your footage.

I had to laugh a little when you said you went to Japan during New Years. It's easily the BIGGEST holiday in the country; I've lived here for about 5 years, and I learned quickly to do all my shopping before Dec. 31st (at the latest) or else I'm screwed until the 4th. If you get another chance to visit Japan, especially the Tokyo area, I recommend trying to make it down to Yokohama! It's the city I live in, and it's a great day trip from Tokyo. We get a lot of tourists for our Chinatown area alone, but there's also some interesting parks and history.

Ooo I’m excited to hear what you think about Engines of Empire! I read it last year and thought it was really interesting! Almost like a blend of steampunk and fantasy with political intrigue sprinkled in
