I’m fully aware my employees aren’t at their permanent address. Many of them travel all year long. They get their work done and I DON’T CARE! As long as they have an internet connection and are able to work within the office hours, why does it matter?

There can actually be tax implications for the company based on this type of issue
@InfamousShark
@InfamousShark 4 ай бұрын
@@cl8855 agreed. But only if the employees residence has been declared to be anywhere other than the state they work in. A company cannot determine how often or where their employees travel. So as long as their residence is in the same state their employer is, they can travel all they like and get their mail in their state of residence and also work in that state.

what the others said, plus, in the case of mexico - germany: insurance. in germany, anything that happens to you or your gear during working hours when working remotely is considered a workplace accident and covered accordingly - so long as your workplace is known and agreed upon with your employer. in your own interest, you _want_ that insurance. in the worst case (accident renders you unable to work permanently) that insurance makes the difference between a continued salary and becoming a welfare case. another factor could be data protection laws. for example, by eu laws, certain data must not leave eu space. if you bring a laptop with such data outside of the eu, you and by extension your company are violating those laws. in a similar manner, in my home office i can guarantee that no outsider can hear my or my colleagues' or my clients' end of confidential conversations. nobody except me can watch my screen etc. if worked from a hotel bar, or a park bench or a starbucks however .. you get the idea. all of this depends on your country's laws ofc.

Best type of boss - as long as your employees get their work done, it shouldn’t matter. Employees just have to declare their location as the same place for taxes, but that’s it.

We’re a little bunch who bring knitting to large-scale meetings (like; 15-20 people, where everyone just have to sit and listen for 90+% of the 2+ hours). Even brought knitting to class once in college. Sat front and center. The (male) teacher glared at me for the first ten minutes until he figured out I participated *way* more than the kids in the back playing on their laptops, and after that he didn’t mind when I brought my knitting.

It used to be considered normal for women students to bring knitting to class lectures. It was considered appropriate for both male and female students to take notes during lectures, but knitting was considered normal public behavior for women up until the late 20th century.

You want micromanagy? I worked at a place where the boss: -Opened all mail, including that not addressed to him -Installed remote desktop software on all the PC's , so he could watch people work. -Read all email. Logging into personal email on the web was banned, the reason given 'it spreads viruses' (which is nonsense, the real reason is he couldn't read it) -Had a live display of all phone calls, and could monitor or cut into calls at will.

One of the companies I worked for actually had us log in to a system that was used for our client service phone pool. So if you were on a webcast, or reading a lengthy white paper, you had to keep the mouse moving anyway.

the mouse logging happens continuously; every time your mouse is not moving for a certain amount of time, a timer will start running. at the end of the day/week/month it will show how much time the mouse was idle during work hours.

I really wonder how that makes sense - when I do research or look into certain things, I read for longer periods of time and might only use the keyboard if anything. The computers I work with automatically log me out after a certain amount of idle time, about 15 minutes. I don’t think my activity is being recorded, but having to log after a bio break is a small annoyance. When I’m at the office the policy is to lock screens every time we step away, and I follow that.
@woodychopp
@woodychopp 5 ай бұрын
@@TypoKnig well the logging out is a security issue. my laptop asks for a biometric or code login every time the screen goes out which it does after a minute or so of inactivity. does the lock screen keep you from logging out? But i was talking about the fact that people became aware of the need to use mouse wigglers; i don't have that need as i don't face repercussions as long as the work gets done. it's the workforce that gets preprimanded when a manager goes over the metrics of idle time instead of work done that gets shafted.

A few years back I worked with a client in the defense industry. Close to (what would turn out to be) the end of my tenure at that company, I was drowning in work. I was working in a service desk, and I was responsible for routing tasks either to other members of my team, or to other teams. A short while before I quit, we found out that sending tasks to this very specific group ended up with the task disappearing - e.g. the task was removed from the system when sent there. Me and a few others ended up routing hundreds, if not thousands, of tasks, in bulk, to this that specific group. No one noticed a thing and the people who logged the case didn't log any new cases complaining. I'm guessing it was due to how need to know everything was - in the end, we had to do less work for (much) better statistics.

On the micro-management bit, and sitting and keeping taps. At my old job (storage), we used these hand scanners. And they had installed a program into them that would alert the dayshift leader (I worked evening) if a certain user had not used their scanner for a period longer than some amount. Then once a month someone in the higher ups would sit and go through all these periods of inactivity. And clogging them in as either our early, dinner, or late break. And if there was any more periods than that, they'd write to our supervisors who then had to ask us what we did for those 12 minutes we weren't active that one day last month. There were 2 different shift supervisers, one of them got realy bothered whenever he had to do one of those "meetings", since it was a waste of everybodys time. The other seemed to be taking pride in whipping his people forward...

On the occasions When I have to go into the physical office and want to leave early, I can remotely wake up my laptop at home from my other laptop. The laptop at home is setup, so it will automatically login to windows, launches Teams, mark me as ‘Available’. Also it will start my mouse jiggler software so my status won’t change to ‘Away’. That way I can shutdown my Laptop in the office and leave for home and no one is non the wiser.

As a Computer and Network Engineer - NO ONE needs to sit at a terminal and look to see who is on line and who is off line or away or busy. . the Corp software does that for them. The manger only needs to log in and get a report of activity from the software program. It's all automated. We network engineers do the same thing for each network device and PER Port on each switch / router / firewall / etc. Pretty easy. And we can have it send emails and or text alerts any time the limit or threshold is reached or exceeded. Automated.

I know some of these products do provide managers with a live dashboard with alerts that go off when one of their employees has been "inactive" for a preset amount of time. But mainly, they compile statistics on your active/inactive time, package it into a nifty individual report with percentages and graphs, then send it to your manager every month/quarter/year so that they can use it to challenge you in a performance review.

Micromanaging supervisors drive me nuts and have the opposite effect on my motivation. Pretty sure it is commonly known that supervisors who micromanage demotivate their employees.

So one day she wrote to me and my business partner "Hey Jeannette and Lisa, would love to get coffee with you next week when Im in town", and I responded "Sure thing Searreh, sounds good!" and me and my partner were cracking up over it.

Big companies have software that counts mouse movements and keystrokes. Actually, some companies record keystrokes. I do not approve, but it is done. I agree with you, manage the work and not the worker. As an interesting note, I once worked for an automotive supplier that an employee caused a shutdown of an automotive manufacturing line, causing a $100k/hr charge back to our company. When I asked if the person was going to be fired, I was told that they are sure this mistake will never be done again by this person. Hiring a replacement risks a similar mistake by the new person. A lesson learned and not repeated, is better than a lesson never learned.

I don’t think anyone is paid to monitor your online status but softwares are used to alert a team, manager, it etc of unusual behavior that shows a pattern. Also… if a manager suspects your aren’t working they have that tool to back up what they suspect .. just a thought

I also really wish someone at my current employer would watch people's Teams statuses. I manage a team and have one employee who is legit away for hours, but my hands are tied. UGH!!

Interesting 🤔 my manager claims to get a report of our status activities from Teams. So either he's lying, or you have options! Best of luck to you!

My boss wasn't doing his job, so I changed my email to add his title. After seeing my email, my boss retaliated by adding Executive to his title. When I resigned, I saw that HR changed the titles in our personnel files, thinking they missed the update. Do you want a promotion?

Love your videos young lady. How the heck do you come up with such perfect answers to DUMB things said to you by corporate....I am fast (my mind and often my words) but you are super fast and I can feel the sting from the other side...God bless you and please, put out a book. Even after 46 years in corp America, could use what you have :-)

Have done the petty response too, people always call me Mark or Mike, which isn't my name, so I responded with a name completely off from theirs. And if someone mispronounces my last name I'll mispronounce theirs too

In my job we handle confidential information. The having to log in again after some inactivity is purely a safety measure to prevent others from accessing the data if you happen to be away from your laptop for a bit. As for taking years to get the money back: if the mistake was yours, it's not the bank's problem. All you can do in that case is contact the recipient and ask them to give the money back. If they refuse or have already spent it, you have to go through the court system which can indeed take years and where you need to prove that the recipient could reasonably be expected to understand that it was a mistake.

I think we all have a LOT of questions! I'd make some confessions but........ I plead the 5th. 😮 I will admit putting ex-lax in some chocolate frosting on a couple of brownies for a guy we all detested at work. He spent the rest of the day in the men's room. 😮

Lady I know says she's got to "authenticate" her status every 30 to 60 minutes. Her tech guy she has known for 10+ years and is friends with tells her that they do not actively monitor her, or everyone's, working BUT that authenticator DOES track her if and whenever they want to. For the camera on her laptop being on, she just pulls the USB cord so that they can't turn it on from their side without her knowing.

My full name is the same as a famous movie director. So I have to deal with people commenting on it and think they are being original. Or some times they say I bet you get lots of people saying they love my movies. Atleast his a good director so most the movies they mention i'd love to take credit for. But as I am now unemployed next job i start i will change my name i am known to be the short version of my first name. Don't get the comment as much if i use the short version of the name VS the full version of my first name

It sounds like the employee bought women lingerie with a company credit card, claiming the expenses as gifts for clients, not women he was sleeping with. One assumes he also bought them nice dinners. The lingerie could have been sent to his home, picked up by him, or even sent to his office. Probably not the women's home addresses.
