My job records us all with cameras in every room. We have to be on time to the minute all the time, no grace periods. They want everyone to take their breaks at the same time every day, and those who don’t are treated as a nuisance. They only give a handful of sick days per year, and they don’t roll over 🙄

Yep. I've always had issues with people thinking that I'm supposed to be like everyone else. I'm an individual not part of a herd. Years ago in tech school I had a teacher get upset because I didn't act like everyone else. First day of class teacher wanted everyone to stand up and tell something about ourselves. I refused. I was there to learn not have people in my business.🤷🏼‍♂️

We are in our jobs to fill the gaps somebody else cannot address in our service area. As my former boss said in undying wisdom: "We don't do brain surgery, nobody dies."

Once you do all these extra hours and work load and prove you are a 'good employee' you won't be promoted because it will cost them more to replace you with multiple people.

I feel like cameras on. I’ve read through comments and seen what others had to say. If a manager doesn’t care then that’s on them. No one cares how people look as long as they are presentable per company attire policy. If you’re working from home you shouldn’t be out doing errands or playing in the garden. I’ve seen and heard the waste of money and time that happens from working from home. People are writing g off this office space and internet use on their taxes. That’s why it’s tax break cause you’re using it as per the same way you would in the office. There are a lot of people not actually working and they don’t have access to the same materials and files that are their job. Productivity has to be affected. Writing an email then following up for the next 3 hours to clarify with employees the email is a huge waste of time.

Not everything is verbal communication. So yes, camera stays on if the meeting is about communicating. If it's a "technical" call, where facts matter and not communication, then the powerpoint/excel/coding ide matters.

On a very bad mental health day when I was dealing with a difficult personal situation, in a breakout session from a large director meeting, the group leader forced me to put my camera on after I had very politely declined twice.
