some tips from a farmer aphids- a little bit of rubbing alcohol in soapy water works great as a spray carrots- you gotta thin them! once the sprouts come up, pluck some out so there is 2ish inches between each sprout and you’ll get bigger carrots. you can eat the sprouts you pull out butternut squash- you gotta cure it before you eat it or it won’t taste good. let it sit in a warm place for a couple weeks

For aphids, we bought ladybugs at a local grow shop years ago and every year they come back and eat most if not all the aphids. It's pretty neat when they start hatching, they don't look like ladybugs at first when they don't have their shell.

Meghan, I’m the girl that grew up right outside of Middleburg (we talked about that once before I think)! My family moved from Virginia to Montana when I was much younger and trailered our 4 horses (one of which was a draft) across the country… crazy right LOL. It was actually much easier than it sounds, you just have to plan far enough in advance and map out your route so it coordinates well with wherever accepts overnight campers with farm animals/etc. Let me know if you and Finley end up loving VT next month and we can have a chat about the logistics behind it lol. I want to help you keep your beloved piggies 🐷💗 no need to separate! PS - so glad to hear you’re staying safe from any wildfires this year. We had a forest fire last month that came within a mile of my property here in Virginia and burned almost 100 acres… can’t imagine what happened out west. 🥺 -Ali

Hi Meg!! 💛 you so much, and I noticed just one small wording thing that would make a world of difference to native people. Instead of saying that native people “used to” do anything, just saying that they use the silks for tea is less micro-aggressive. Mentioning natives in the past tense perpetuates the mentality that they no longer exist, making it easier for many people to push their very real and specific issues aside! I know this wasn’t at all a mal-intended comment, but I also thought you’d react well to this comment and take it in stride. You’re an incredible woman and I adore your content and mindset. Thank you for the longer videos 💛💛💛

Heads up as a vermonter, houses and apartments are ridiculously expensive right now! Lotsa fancy city people have thrown down cash during covid to buy a property and have turned them into air bnbs. This is probably happening everywhere, but the vermont market is real crazy, my partner and I are even struggling to get a two bedroom apartment. But there's definitely tons of gorgeous land! I have an aphids problem in my strawberry patch EVERY summer! I feel your pain! This year I discovered neem oil and it did the trick for me! Since oil doesnt mix well with water, I added a liquid detergent to help the oil emulsify. I typically do a couple cups of water, a good amount of neem oil, and then a wee bit of detergent and put that all in a spray bottle to periodically spray down my plants. Hope that helps :) (Much love from Alaska!!

My dad transported chickens a few states away and they were totally fine. At night he stopped and checked their food and water. It’s definitely stressful for them but when they get to where they are going the settle. Dogs are a lot like pigs so I think the travel may be hard in them but I don’t think it would be so hard that it would mean you shouldn’t take them but having said that I have never cared for or transported pigs.

You can actually buy more lady bugs to release in your garden and they will get to work on the aphids. I’m not sure of the effects on the ecosystem of your garden if it’s over populated by lady bugs but I assume they will probably mostly move on after finishing the food source. 🐞✨ And other than that you are glowing in life!
