I love how bigots claim "Oh thats not Barbara." I'm like dude, in the original comics Barbara Gordon was not only technically closer to Bruce's age, she was a fairly independent woman who was a librarian and eventual congresswoman. Barbara Gordon was always a social justice warrior. Even the TV show with Adam West emphasized her will. Thats why I actually would love Batman x Barbara here. Because unlike the killing joke/dcau, both characters are not only entrenched in their careers as true professionals, they are now much closer in age. Both have a strong sense of justice, and would respect each other greatly. Think of it as working relationship that eventually becomes more complicated with Bruce learning to not be so violent an to consider helping criminals to an extent and Barbara admiring the strain batman puts himself through to save strangers even if she cant outright accept his vigilantism. Perhaps the two, in a relationship, or close to it, argue over their values-Barbara pointing out the economics play a major role, but Bruce also points out that regardless of factors, a crime still causes someone gets hurt (both are equally correct).

I'll say Morph from X-men 97 being nonbinary actually added something there for me. I really thought it would just be a publicity stunt (and it a little bit was), but it also added back in the inherent queerness of the X-men. The X-men are everyone who's ever been marginalized an oppressed and having an explicitly queer character not just a coded one (Magneto, Wolverine, Jubilee, Sunspot, Storm, Gambit, Professor X, Nightcrawler) really added to the sense of community and found family in particular the X-men provide. Renée being plus size just fits so well with her character that I barely noticed that she was "different" from her normal design, she felt like a powerful presence and a protector whenever she showed up. I've heard of one criticism of Harley Quinn that I kind of agree with, and that's the logic behind the jester outfit. In the original version, it was mainly to tie her to the Joker, but this show doesn't provide that much context as to why she is wearing one. I know she talks about the jesters running the court instead of the kings, but that reference kind of only works if you're familiar with the history of court jesters (they served as sort of confidants and secret exposers on top of being entertainers), which is never revealed in the show.

I was so excited to see these new takes on Renee Montoya, Harley Quinn, And Barbara Gordon. (Harley Quinn with a non-Joker origin story was something I never knew I needed, and the way they did it was pitch perfect.) I heard a critism somewhere that there wasn't enough Batman in the show, but I very much read it as an ensemble piece, giving plenty of non-Batman characters time to shine, and it worked tremendously. Honestly my only minor frustration is wanting to see more of certain characters, like the Penguin. I also really liked the way they did Two-Face, with the inversion of which side of his face represents his selfless instincts vs his greed and cynicism. I would have loved to see more of him, but I can understand why they cut it short. I also really liked how they played Batman as, well, incredibly priveleged, and showing he has a lot to learn, and actually starting him on that path. Alfred's character was incredibly well used, both as a foil for Bruce and in his own right, and the shift at the end from Bruce calling him Pennyworth to calling him Alfred was a lovely touch.

I was mostly meh on this series because I didn’t think we needed another Harvey Dent arc. I liked the show aesthetically (with two exceptions), and politically, but found most episodes to be fairly meh. The exceptions were the ghost episode and the Harley episode. Up there in the canon of great Batman animated episodes. The Harley episode (and it’s setup bits in other episodes) goes hard for all the reasons you point out. And the ghost episode was my favorite because I’m kind of a sucker for spooky supernatural bullshit sprinkled into my Batman. The only places I think they missed the mark petty badly on were the Two-Face design and Harley’s design (put down the gun). Two face was just kinda boring and gross without any texture to it. My problem with Harley is way more personal. I have an aesthetic aversion to yellow/ochre/mustard and so her color scheme just seemed targeted at my sour taste centers. I got over it because that episode rocks, and her character is boss mode, but I do wish that, just for me and me alone, they’d have gone with another color.

I haven't seen it yet, but I am definitely going to now. I am a simple person. I see anticapitalist themes and I like.

Bro i dont care how they look , i care how they gave the most time to them . They made batman the world greatest detective get his clues by spying on montoya , harley starter good but in this more "mature" adaptacion she torture people by tickling them and then batman does not even stop her , he gets saved by barbara. And can ve talk about how they in some way fucked our boy Bruce, im getting tired of this trope with batman how he does not care bout alfred , makes his best friend have a mental brakedown

I stopped watching your video part way through because I realized I wanted to watch this. Just finished the fifth episode, and I can say Harley Quinn is the first truly terrifying villain of this series.

I thought caped crusader was cool but did have some (subjective) gripes with the series: -I wish the animation felt more adult in tone. Almost A24 type chills with certain characters. Again, personal opinion -I wish the show was black and white and played with lots of shadow in its animation. Missed opportunity imo w/ 1940s setting & aesthetic. THIS among other things made it feel (a little bit, i promise) like a budget version of the OG series at the end of the day. Again, in MY OPINION. DISLIKED some of commentary in few key areas: -don't like the optics of Batman going against Gentleman Ghost. A guy like Bruce who thinks the solution to Gothams problems is to put on a suit and beat poor ppl is OBVIOUSLY overcompensating for his trauma, but I don't accept that Bruce can be against an elitist like GG, when he imo implicitly doesn't respect the underclass of the city, otherwise he would invest more and give unemployed poor ppl brain damage less. Optics just looked so bad imo w/ that ep. -There's an ep where one of Barbs clients tries to have her assassinated(think Onomatopoeia ep) and there when it's revealed, she responded in a way I don't quite remember word for word, but the impression I got was, this show thinks it's okay and maybe better for criminals to get the harshest sentence bc it's what they deserve?! Some white lib ish. Why can't some big time crime bosses be bad AND the criminal justice system seem flawed at the same time. I don't know, maybe I read something that wasn't there, pls tell me your disagreements.
