Taking on the curves of California's legendary Laguna Seca Raceway, the Taycan Turbo GT with the Weissach package just made history. With a blistering lap time of 1 min 27.87 seconds, Porsche development driver Lars Kern set the record for the quickest lap ever by a road-approved electric car.

But there is one advantage it's goes really fast from 0 to a 100 ......

it's not really faster than Model S Plaid on straight line acceleration,, but it's gonna destroy PLAID on every Racetrack,, it had so much better Handling than Model S Plaid.

According to Porsche 2.2s (vs. 2.1sec by Teslas marketing), but usually Porsche's estimations are quite conservative, so you can expect it to be even faster IRL. Tesla on the other hand often overestimates so there's a good change the Taycan GT is faster than the Plaid. But yeah on the track there won't be any chance for the Tesla.

@@d1on for reference in the final straight line before checked Flag the Taycan did 100-200kmh (*with "attack mode") around 4,7-4,8s,,, compared the Plaid could do 4,0-4,2s on 100-200 accelerations,, Yeah maybe the Taycan could do better if at best conditions and not at the end of Hot Lap like this one,,maybe the Performace a bit reduced because some overheat (*but i doubt that, cause Taycan had 800v battery and better heat management compared to Tesla) but I still believe that Taycan will not do faster than 4,0s on 100-200kmh acceleration even with better/perfect conditions,,

In the end even if the Telsa was slightly faster it wouldn't change the fact it is a shithole of a car in every other aspect than pure acceleration and range 😂

That’s quicker than a GT2RS, Huracán Performante, Shelby GT500 as well as the McLaren 720S and a Dodge Viper ACR and Time Attack models and despite being 3 tenths slower than the McLaren Senna, I’m impressed by the Taycan Turbo GT considering the fact that it weighs 5000 pounds

The Nevera has slightly better time (2 secs) at the Nurburgring, with an extra 1000hp and carbon fiber every where. Weight will limit the 918 to similar times as well. Unless they install half the capacity of the battery pack. Doubt it.

The taycan and tesla have similar interior style. This car also has screens everywhere as a focal point just like Tesla pioneered it 10 years ago. The only difference I see is the materials are better on a Porsche, but the UI and software are much better in the Tesla. You still have to deal with lots of screens instead of one main screen in a Tesla.

Tesla is plain AF with 1 giant I Pad screen in the middle. Porsche uses significantly better quality leather. Tesla does not even use real leather bub. They are nothing "similar". That is the most ridiculous comment I have seen comparing the 2.

Crazy fast. Though should point out that Laguna Seca has gotten significantly faster once they repaved it last year. Randy Pobst should rerun some of his old Motor Trend best laps to see how much it's improved, but rumors suggest it's at least a couple of seconds faster and maybe even 4.

Can someone walk me through how this car is somehow the second fastest road legal car to lap this track? It weighs 5,000 pounds, has less than 500 pounds of downforce, yet despite this it’s still comparably quick to super cars in the corners despite that being a horrible combination for cornering. Seems like they are sandbagging, that is, they could do a much faster lap. Just saying that because many of the mid-corner speeds are relatively low. Probably capable of 1:26.xx at least, maybe even 1:25.xx.

When comparing to other cars, the speeds are abnormally high. The cornering speeds are comparable to a Porsche gt3 despite weighing almost twice as much and having less downforce, however given those facts I highly doubt it would be able to go any faster through the corners. Plus did you hear those tires? That was definitely the limit of grip there

@@swecreations According to multiple online sources, the depreciation curve is worse for the Taycan compared to the Panamera. It’s also worse compared to a similarly priced 911. Lastly, I don’t think many people are surprised that various luxury vehicles depreciate hard. It’s common knowledge with the 7series, A8, and S-Class.

Rimac Nevera is like: hold my beer. It's funny to watch this inflated news story. Rimac Nevera was the fastest production electric car and remains so. I'm not talking about the fact that the Rimac "in stock" set its record on the Nurburgring - 7,05,298 minutes, while this Taycan Turbo GT used a special Weissach Package tuning package, which makes the car 220 kg lighter and makes the body more aerodynamic, and Rimac, I repeat, was completely factory equipped!
