A 'lil stone..........that was more like a Boulder. Glad you were able to get yourself unstuck safely. You have sure got the stones for your own Rock Quarry & still have a nice rock wall. This has been very interesting. There's no cool secrets here in Southwestern Virginia. There almost always seems to be a mild breeze. It's the elevation in the areas we live in that make a difference with the way we feel heat. (My experience/belief) The old timers in my area got all there chores & cooking done early in the morning when it was cooler. We also have had a very foggy August which helps keep it cooler until the sun lifts it off. I would leave to work, left windows open because the weatherman said clear sunny skies, come home to a damp comforter on my bed in the South window had rain come in. Living along the river you got stray rain showers. We sweat here too. I don't miss the sticky humidity you feel, the kind that makes you want to take a shower 3xs a day. In Pittsburgh, Pa.I have gotten up in the middle of the night & took another shower changed my sheets from sweating too bad. I am comfortable here, I love hearing the hearing the river run quietly in the night, or its raging madness, I love my sunsets looking up to Mount Rogers. I can tell you the time of year without a calender, & almost the exact time without a clock by looking at the stars. I love watching cloud shadows dance across the mountains into the valleys, & no measure of money would ever make me as contented as here. This was my Father's birth place. I always will have a part of him with me.

E90 degree pipe: it’s the accumulation build up that happens causing slug to slow at a 90 wall…where as it does not loose momentum on a 22 or a 45…very good question you posed to us…I am enjoying ing watching…takes me back mannnny years when we put ours in on the farm…really enjoy the technology and product simplification and the research you put into your project

Good morning from Phil in Waxhaw, NC.. Yes, it is hot even for us. It's been in the high 90s then add that to the high humidity and our index is well over 100. But like you said, we are, for the most part, use to it, unless you are old like we are, then you stay inside with the AC set at 72 and our fans running. I use to live in the North, but got tired of the brutally cold winters and having to deal with snow morning, noon and night. I loved the fall weather with its brilliant colors in the North, but not the winters and all the rain we use to get. Have a blessed day, you all.

We just received rain and wind from hurricane IDA Monday and today so that has given us a break. Hello again , Regarding the leach field , I would plant it with a mixture of grasses that will not grow very high. Thus not requiring mowing. Plus I would also seed with a thick mixture of perennial wildflowers to make it look more attractive. Also eliminating the need for mowing. It may be a good idea to decide where you will want a orchard of fruit trees and get at least a few of them planted now. It takes so much time for them to grow and then begin producing that there is no such thing as planting them too soon. I bought my small farm in 2013 and waited to plant fruit trees. Now I am just getting around to planting some fruit trees. If I had planted at least a few ten years ago , I would be harvesting now instead of planting now. Planting now , I will still have to wait 3-5 years for any fruit at all . I planted Elderberries last year. Since they grow and produce pretty fast I am expecting elderberries next year. This year I have planted three varieties of mulberry trees. One problem that I have is that I don't see very many bees here. I may have to begin raising my own honeybees for cross pollination.

We were lucky. We have had our 9.7 acre hobby farm for 12 years. As soon as we got here we planted our little orchard of ten trees. They were "whips" so they only cost $15 and they were bare roots so they weren't hard to plant. We've had a good harvest for the last 5 years. We have 8 apple trees and 2 pears. Good luck with the bees. We've done fine. My husband wanted to get the fruit trees right away and we had a good spot to put them. I'm so glad he did that. They are semi-dwarf so they aren't so hard to harvest and dwarf trees look weird to us. There is nothing like picking an apple right off the tree and eating it. Some of them are pie apples but most are for eating. I hope Al and Gina do put in some fruit trees. It's great to have them near the pig pens because we can just throw the "bad" ones or the ones that fall off the trees to the pigs. I'm planting elderberries this year! Good luck. Everything takes time.

I put in a DIY grid-tied solar power system, including ground mounting. The inspector was great. As a result, I did everything right from the start and never had to tear anything out to pass. No electric bills for two years now!

this is an amazing segment. this whole build is something i was aware of but never had to deal with. You have made it an excellent teaching seminar. Consider putting all these segments together as a feature. Sort of what you did with the barn build. thanks for the life lessons

Yes living in the South is tough especially since I grew up in Northern NY. But I am grateful to be here now for reasons unrelated to the weather.

On emergency relief crew at work via Lowe’s. Will be heading out to Louisiana for next several weeks for recovery and fill in with all that’s going on. Sure hope you don’t get hit with all the rain from Ida.

Here in the "Coolest corner of North Carolina" it doesn't really get too steamy. We are in a temperate rain forest in the high mountains. We get more annual rainfall than the Pacific Northwest. The last 2 weeks have been in the 80's with elevated humidity, but it is still so much better than being down in the flat lands! I'm so glad you passed your inspection! Looking forward to the next project! Blessings to all.

Interesting, I’ve never seen an above grade septic system. Seems the first good rain would expose the field lines. Beautiful site for your house. Good luck.

Al, we use swim shirts… long sleeves to protect from the sunburn and they dry quickly and are really thin and breathable. Plus we drink a couple gallons of water a day to not dehydrate. No exaggeration. Containers amplify the heat. We avg 100-110 degrees with 70-80% humidity. Try the swim shirts! You’ll never go back.
