Yes, that’s truly the first recorded video game Easter egg. At the time, Atari didn’t allow their games to have credits. He snuck this in because he wasn’t allowed to have his name credited fro programming the game. If you activate the Easter Egg you get into a secret room where you see “created by Warren robinett”

The original novel by Ernest Cline has even more easter eggs of pop culture, especially of the 1980s, and part of the reason the movie has the references it had was due to 1) time contraints on a movie vs. a book AND 2) the budget they had for this which includes the references owned by Warner Brothers, by Spielberg's companies Amblin & Dreamworks, and they ones they could afford that other owners were willing to license for the film. Trust me, I grew up in the 80s, and i got most of the references...but I still have no clue on others. And I have read the novel 3 times! There is a sequel novel called 'Ready Player Two' and the screenplay is in development now...I don't know if Spielberg will direct it (it's highly unlikely he will)...but it is in the works. Donkey Kong is a video game gorilla...it's King Kong. I was laughing evrytime you mentioned Donkey Kong (a VERY 80s video game that I sank tons of quarters into as a kid). There was one song I so wanted to be in this movie that wasn't. Ernest Cline made a playlist of all the songs and music that inspired him writing the book, which is on Spotify, and one song that perfectly fits is "Subdivisions" by RUSH...that is the only complaint I really have against the movie! (An argument could be made for "Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Boingo during James Halliday's video message announcing the contest not being included...but that just gets nit-picky!) :) Ernest Cline, before writing the novel and screenplay of 'Ready Player One' started his writing career as a "slam poet/performance poet" in his hometown of Austin, Texas...and you can find some of his poetry performances online (they are definitely geeky and mostly funny). He also wrote a movie called 'Fanboys' about a group of friends who make a pilgrimage to Skywalker Ranch to try to be the first to see 'Star Wars - Episode I - The Phantom Menace'. That's a fun movie that takes a quite moving turn, with a story very much constructed like 'Star Wars -Episode IV - A New Hope'.

As discovered in March 2017, Atari's 1977 arcade game Starship 1 features an "Easter egg" (a hidden secret or item), in which the message "Hi Ron!" is relayed on-screen and the player is awarded 10 extra lives. This is before adventure, but the adventure one is way more fabulous for being the "first" Easter egg. The earliest known video game Easter egg is in Moonlander (1973), in which the player tries to land a spaceship on the moon; if the player flies horizontally enough, they encounter a McDonald's restaurant and if they land next to it an astronaut will visit it instead of standing next to the ship. The term Easter Egg comes from adventure, and I think when the book was written and the movie was being made, these earlier Easter eggs hadn't been discovered yet

As many have mentioned, the giant robot is from "the Iron Giant", one of the best animated movies there is. You would absolutely love it, so consider it for a reaction vid. As for the new Godzilla movies, and I hate to say this as someone who grew up loving the original Godzilla movies (from the 60's, 70's and 80's... there are so many), but I would skip the new ones. However, the last 3 planet of the apes movies (rise, dawn, and war) are absolutely amazing and I'd love to see you watch those instead. They are far far better than the recent Godzilla universe movies. Great comment and I agree. What is also so neat about the King Kong and Godzilla references are it shows Kong first, which was originally released in black and white in 1933 (I think), then Godzilla (also in black and white) released in 1954 and then both as really tent pole franchises that pretty much every other giant monster movie ripped off, first squared off against each other in the Japanese movie in 1962 I think. I was born in 73 and the very first Godzilla movie I saw was Godzilla vs. Megalon, but the one I always waited to catch on tv (usually they aired late at night on one of the maybe 10 channels we got on tv) was King Kong vs. Godzilla. So many great old school references in this movie, and because I (and I'm assuming you as well) are old enough to have seen most all of them made this movie one of my favorite, because it really is a conglomeration of every great reference from the past 100 years..... and that doesn't even include the soundtrack.

Tis true. As someone who has a cajun accent, its easier for me to pull off a "Hollywood American" accent than for me to pull off a convincing English accent. A lot of Americans **think** they can do an English accent, but it sounds ridiculous to us English folk (often like Dick Van Dyke's accent in Mary Poppins). Producers bring their clout and provide advice when a film is being made while not really handling the day-to-day work on sets. Sometimes, they'll even provide financial backing for the film. During principal photography, they usually expect to be shown what filming was finished each day (called Dailies). Directors are the hands-on managers from pre-production (writing and scheduling), through principal photography and then to post-production.

😂😂 Donkey Kong!!!! 🤣🤣 King Kong, Godzilla, Jurassic Park, Krull, Child's Play (Chucky), Friday the 13th, Iron Giant, Saturday Night Fever, Say Anything, Seventh Voyage Of Sinbad, Excalibur, and a lot more to mention but these are the movies from the top of my head. Also reference to games like Donkey Kong, Excalibur, Dungeons & Dragons, Centipede, Pac-Man, and Space Invaders. Television shows like Hello Kitty, Power Rangers, Speed Racer and Star Trek. Have to mention the toys like the Magic Eight Ball and the Rubik's Cube. 🖖😃

Great reaction. I’ve heard there is more than 80 references in the movie but you missed the most obvious ones. The car he’s driving is the Delorean from Back to the Future and also the Iron Giant, not to mention all the cameos you can spot at the beginning and in the final battle. The gorilla’s name is King Kong but I’m glad you saw the Shining though ;)

The original Chucky movie is Called Childs Play. And it is the reason I'm terrified of dolls. Dead Silence did NOT help with that phobia. And I have a daughter so I'm surrounded by creepy frigging dolls!

There are certain songs for me that I can't disassociate from the movies they appeared in. "Father and Son", "The Chain" - Guardians of the Galaxy "Back in Black" - Iron Man "Stayin' Alive" (on the dance floor here) - I can't listen to that and not picture the bar scene from Airplane.

22:50 that's a Madball. A toy from the 80's. They were rubber balls with various gross monster faces. They didn't really do anything, just a goofy collectable. One being a weapon in this flick is the first time one was ever useful. ;)

The oldest friends I have are those I've met gaming, We've never met face to face, All have earned my deepest respect and absolute trust down the years, All of us are there to offer help and support for each other, Be that passing on skills in games, Helping those who are down on their luck by donating parts keeping them playing when we upgrade hardware, Reminding each other We're ALL worthy of respect, Offering whatever support we can in times of need of someone to SCREAM at, Even if that can only be verbal emotional support for those in distress, The very definition of friendship to me...

Spielberg executive produced Jurassic World. That is usually the position that brings in the money and the team together but doesn’t actually direct the movie (cast and crew). That was Colin Trevorow.

There is a "Monsterverse" involving Godzilla and King Kong. There's currently four movies that ended with this year's Godzilla vs Kong. They did well and Godzilla vs Kong was the first Blockbuster after the theatres closed because of Covid. They're entertaining for sure.

Executive directing doesn't exist. Spielberg was probably an executive producer on JW because Amblin, his production company was involved. Probably a sequel rights thing. Exec. producing can mean anything, from doing nothing, contributing an idea, bringing in talent or a company to finance, up to actual hands on producing.

It is easy for me to Switch from a North American accent to a British accent (although there are MANY British and North American accents). For other people, it is very difficult. Simon Pegg is a trained actor. He seems to do a pretty good job, but it doesn't seem easy for him.
