The original novel by Ernest Cline has even more easter eggs of pop culture, especially of the 1980s, and part of the reason the movie has the references it had was due to 1) time contraints on a movie vs. a book AND 2) the budget they had for this which includes the references owned by Warner Brothers, by Spielberg's companies Amblin & Dreamworks, and they ones they could afford that other owners were willing to license for the film. Trust me, I grew up in the 80s, and i got most of the references...but I still have no clue on others. And I have read the novel 3 times! There is a sequel novel called 'Ready Player Two' and the screenplay is in development now...I don't know if Spielberg will direct it (it's highly unlikely he will)...but it is in the works. Donkey Kong is a video game gorilla...it's King Kong. I was laughing evrytime you mentioned Donkey Kong (a VERY 80s video game that I sank tons of quarters into as a kid). There was one song I so wanted to be in this movie that wasn't. Ernest Cline made a playlist of all the songs and music that inspired him writing the book, which is on Spotify, and one song that perfectly fits is "Subdivisions" by RUSH...that is the only complaint I really have against the movie! (An argument could be made for "Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Boingo during James Halliday's video message announcing the contest not being included...but that just gets nit-picky!) :) Ernest Cline, before writing the novel and screenplay of 'Ready Player One' started his writing career as a "slam poet/performance poet" in his hometown of Austin, Texas...and you can find some of his poetry performances online (they are definitely geeky and mostly funny). He also wrote a movie called 'Fanboys' about a group of friends who make a pilgrimage to Skywalker Ranch to try to be the first to see 'Star Wars - Episode I - The Phantom Menace'. That's a fun movie that takes a quite moving turn, with a story very much constructed like 'Star Wars -Episode IV - A New Hope'.

As discovered in March 2017, Atari's 1977 arcade game Starship 1 features an "Easter egg" (a hidden secret or item), in which the message "Hi Ron!" is relayed on-screen and the player is awarded 10 extra lives. This is before adventure, but the adventure one is way more fabulous for being the "first" Easter egg. The earliest known video game Easter egg is in Moonlander (1973), in which the player tries to land a spaceship on the moon; if the player flies horizontally enough, they encounter a McDonald's restaurant and if they land next to it an astronaut will visit it instead of standing next to the ship. The term Easter Egg comes from adventure, and I think when the book was written and the movie was being made, these earlier Easter eggs hadn't been discovered yet

Great comment and I agree. What is also so neat about the King Kong and Godzilla references are it shows Kong first, which was originally released in black and white in 1933 (I think), then Godzilla (also in black and white) released in 1954 and then both as really tent pole franchises that pretty much every other giant monster movie ripped off, first squared off against each other in the Japanese movie in 1962 I think. I was born in 73 and the very first Godzilla movie I saw was Godzilla vs. Megalon, but the one I always waited to catch on tv (usually they aired late at night on one of the maybe 10 channels we got on tv) was King Kong vs. Godzilla. So many great old school references in this movie, and because I (and I'm assuming you as well) are old enough to have seen most all of them made this movie one of my favorite, because it really is a conglomeration of every great reference from the past 100 years..... and that doesn't even include the soundtrack.

As a British guy who does a little acting (and has been raised on American movies), it's oddly easier for a British person to pull off an American accent, than an American trying to pull off a British accent (either sound Australian or from New Zealand).
@razorfett1472 жыл бұрын
Tis true. As someone who has a cajun accent, its easier for me to pull off a "Hollywood American" accent than for me to pull off a convincing English accent. Its easier to scrub off a vocal inflection than it is to add one, and the Hollywood American accent is one that is completely inflection neutral.

A lot of Americans **think** they can do an English accent, but it sounds ridiculous to us English folk (often like Dick Van Dyke's accent in Mary Poppins). Producers bring their clout and provide advice when a film is being made while not really handling the day-to-day work on sets. Sometimes, they'll even provide financial backing for the film. During principal photography, they usually expect to be shown what filming was finished each day (called Dailies). Okay, I'm not being rude. I know it's so easy to get two sound-similar references confused because I do it all the time but I would so pay money to see "Donkey Kong vs Godzilla: The Movie." Thanks for the reaction video Mary, you're the best.

Spielberg executive produced Jurassic World. That is usually the position that brings in the money and the team together but doesn’t actually direct the movie (cast and crew). That was Colin Trevorow.

There is a "Monsterverse" involving Godzilla and King Kong. There's currently four movies that ended with this year's Godzilla vs Kong. They did well and Godzilla vs Kong was the first Blockbuster after the theatres closed because of Covid. They're entertaining for sure.

Such an under rated movie, I loved it !

Executive directing doesn't exist. Spielberg was probably an executive producer on JW because Amblin, his production company was involved. Probably a sequel rights thing. Exec. producing can mean anything, from doing nothing, contributing an idea, bringing in talent or a company to finance, up to actual hands on producing.

You gotta react to King Kong 1933, King Kong 1976, King Kong 2005, Kong of Skull Island 2017, Godzilla vs Kong 2021 and King Kong vs Godzilla 1962 and maybe a Godzilla movie or two.

It is easy for me to Switch from a North American accent to a British accent (although there are MANY British and North American accents). For other people, it is very difficult. Simon Pegg is a trained actor. He seems to do a pretty good job, but it doesn't seem easy for him.

A Producer is responsible for getting the money to make a film. The Executive Producer is the main person responsible for obtaining money. A producer sometimes puts up some or all of the money themselves, or asks other people or organizations to fund all or part for a share of the profits.

Based on the book of the same title and directed by Steven Spielberg starring Wade Watts in this post-apocalyptic world in which everyone is living inside of a virtual reality world in which the game's creator Holladay has died. Before having done so he released a group of keys

Iron giant, the shining( redrum), buckaroo bonzie, thriller, Saturday night fever, the magic spell is from Excalibur, back to the future, mega Godzilla, I'm sure there are more that's just off the top of my point head.....

Fun reaction ^_^ ! I highly highly recommend the book Ready Player One too (or audible version). It captures a really magical journey - love how they complete the trials in it. It's not so much about the main character as the world building and the journey to winning. So good!

If you are going to watch the KING Kong movies, you might want to consider starting with the 1933 original King Kong! (Donkey Kong is the video game character named after King Kong.)
