A lot of people hate on this movie, mostly bookreaders, but personally, I just loved it. I don't really feel like bookreaders understand how tough it is to translate a book to a movie, the amount of things that have to be omitted, which force changes to the story as a whole because otherwise the story no longer makes sense. Add on top of that that the movie should appeal to a broad audience, otherwise it'll never get made in the first place, and that means sometimes story beats get changed for that reason. Does that suck? Maybe, depends on how you look at it. You could look at it as a separate entity and just enjoy it for what it is, or you can compare it to the book and be miserable. I prefer to do the first :)

Only agree to a certain extent. Book/comic book readers definitely do accept changes/differences to the original story when they get the movie treatment. There are a ton of changes in Lord of the Rings movies and the MCU alone, still love it and the source material. But if u change something so much that it's completely different than your just sticking the brand to it and nothing more. And from what I've heard this was really different from the source material. At that point just come up with your own idea. Not that these movies are bad. But when the original creator says something you can't really argue with the fact that it was changed i.e. The Shining, Stephen King hates that movie version because they changed so much. Maybe if you have to change so much like I said make your own idea or maybe they don't really believe in the material to begin with.

Except it's SO stupid and dumbed down for no reason and turns a mediocre novel into a terrible film. Like for example, decades of time people have been trying to find the first key and in the movie they know where the key is, it's in a racing level, and NOT A SINGLE PROFESSIONAL GAMER SPENDING ALL THEIR TIME ON THIS LEVEL HAS EVER TRIED TO GO BACKWARDS? LOL it's such a shitty patronizing change, time after time, that they make in the script. Every change they make is just insulting to the viewer and so stupid and the source material wasn't even that amazing to begin with so dumbing down what was essentially just a fanservice novel in the first place results in this unwatchable garbage.

I have a love/hate relationship with RPO. I read the book when it came out and i was like, a Twerp, so i loved it. Then I watched the movie years later after outgrowing the book. The movie is considerably better since it fixes a lot of issues with the original story, but it also loses a lot of complexity regarding references. The challenges were more complex, for example one of them was doing a perfect recreation of a movie Halliday loved, but I can’t imagine that’d translate super well on the big screen, so we got the The Shining sequence instead. Overall I like the movie more, it’s just more enjoyable than reading 30 pages of references in-between plot points. On the topic of Spielberg, West Side Story is out now! If you like musicals it’s a must watch. It’s a remake of the original one (1960s, iirc) but imo the new version is just superior. Consider giving it a watch!

@@wolfpack_104 Challenge 2 could in theory have been solved by accident. Someone wants to go inside The Shining, so they pull the videocassette. A lot of people would've already wanted to do that. Then you could wander into the ballroom just by happenstance, see the woman trapped by the zombies, and try to save her, which is an obvious move to make in a game. Save the captured Princess. Challenge 1 required driving full speed backwards into a wall. Not an obvious move. And challenge 3, was an Atari game console in an obscure, remote location. It's possible someone would've found out you could play Atari games there, and happened to decide to play Adventure for its Easter egg. But not the most interesting activity to do in the Oasis.

The reason there is so many references is because it was made by WB. That’s why there is no marvel or Star Wars type references

Such a great movie, especially for someone that was born in the 1970s. Our family all pitched in to get an original Atari. My parents even were amazed playing games like Asteroids and Missile Command. When Pitfall came out, we (me and my brother) had to kick them off the game. So many references..... the Beastmaster movie poster from the the "spell" for the shield is from the Excalibur movie that is used to call the "dragon's breath." God.... and so many more, too many to count. I need and have to read the book. Rumor has it the author is in process of writing a Ready Pkayer Two book, but who knows. Also, let me say.... top 10 movie soundtracks of all time.

I would absolutely recommend reading the book, since the film misses a tremendous amount, since it's a different medium. It shows some immense spectacle at the cost of some of the length and depth. Both I found are great, but beware: unfortunately some people are unable to distinguish the differences between mediums and decide they hate the movie after reading the book since the book has so much more depth. I don't think you'll be one of those people since you're someone able to enjoy Game of Thrones and A Song of Ice and Fire, which did the same thing but worse. Ready Player Two is also out as a book, and follows up perfectly after Ready Player One - even though Ready Player One seems to have covered the ending perfectly. As for Easter Eggs: The more you look, the more you'll find. Seriously. There are an unbelievable amount.

the written word has to create a reality in your mind, a movie just gets to show it to you. it's pretty simple, actually. both the book and movie are spectacular.

10:07 Ready Player One is a great movie. It was really good. It's like Tron and The Matrix. Fun and entertaining. Good cast. Tye Sheridan and Olivia Cooke had good chemistry. Good visual effects and good computer animation.

24:44, the reason why Noland is so hard to beat in the game is cause he's a pay to win gamer😂, he basically bought everything so he has the advantages in weaponry

I think this movie was awesome. I understand that they had to telescope the story from the incredible book. Watch more movies and then re-watch this and you will see more than just the background coming alive. After all, you missed the original Batmanmobile.

I really love this movie! I never got a chance to see it in theaters, but once it came out on 4k I picked it up and fell in love with it. I've rewatched this movie many times since buying it and it's still as enjoyable as it was when I first watched it.

It's too bad you haven't watched the movie Excalibur (1981), which is just a re-telling of the King Arthur legened, but done quite well. The magic spell that locks/unlocks the protection of the castle on planet Doom is the Charm of Making that the Wizard Merlin uses to great effect in that movie.

Excalibur isn't just another telling of the Arthur legend it is the best and closest to the full legend. I absolutely love that film. First time I saw it I was about 7 as a huge Arthurian legend fan who knew most of it then. I still remember the look on my mum's face when I asked what is Uther doing to Arthur's mum as he raped her 😮🤣
