As a fan of both the book and the movie here's what I'll say. If you feel like you're a big nerd and love the references, I can't imagine you'll find the book slow. Also, the movie is very different from the book - not in plot, but definitely in execution. And I will just say this - it's beautiful that both the book and the movie can exist in this world. I'm so happy to have them both different enough that I can revisit. Nerds forever!
@HiroZeroVirus6 жыл бұрын
This is hands down one of my favorite books! I went into watching this movie knowing certain parts wouldn’t make it in due to pacing or time constraints, but the one thing that blew my mind is that most references from the book I know of that they left out of the film, they made a reference somewhere else. It was super fun and pretty true to the book honestly.

I've said it once to myself and a few people and I'll say it again. I loved Ready Player One! It was cool, creative, the animation was detailed, the changes were good and made it similar to How to Train Your Dragon in that they changed a lot from the book but still kept bits and pieces. I LOVED THE MOVIE and I have to applaud it for keeping the sexualization and stereotypes of nerds out.

I will never waste my time with this movie. The Iron Giant was only briefly mentioned in the book. The IR isn't even a mech, it is a robot. He is supposed to select the mech from the japanese spiderman anime. Also, the book is a character building, suspense story with some action in it, not an action story. Having been an older teen and young adult in the 80's I loved all the 80's pop culture references in the book. I'm sure more of the obscure refrences were ditched in favor of more well known once but it's obscure nature of the knowledge that Wade and the other Hi Fivers possess that makes them special. Every trailer I've seen, every review I've watched or read convinces me more and more that this move is a total b*st*rdization of the book I enjoyed so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the movie Tamara. Don't read the book now, or you will see what a load of trash the movie turned out to be.

The film is 'based' on the book, and not the book if that makes sense. If you liked the film, then you will like the book better. A lot better. BUT readers of the book, will find A LOT of differences, some you can see why they did not make it from the book. Others, I think we're just left you wondering why they made the changes.

I think the way you felt about Wade in real life being bland was by direction. Spielberg wanted the real life Wade to show low self-esteem and in the Oasis he would have a ton of confidence. I get what you're saying in your criticism, but I think the actor did the best he could with the vision that Spielberg had and the direction he gave.

you absolutely did the right thing. I read the book, and then (stupidly) re-read the book right before seeing the movie, i even looked up what the primary differences between the book and movie were so i wasn't blindsided. and I was still VERY let down by the movie. The movie isn't bad, but i can't separate it from the book and the book is SOOOOOoooo much better in my opinion. The characters are fully developed, they act independently and they all actually EARN their keys instead of the nonsense in the movie. would recommend the book over the movie, but it's better to see the movie before reading the book for maximum enjoyment of both
@improvomega6 жыл бұрын
The details vary wildly between the book and the movie. The challenges for one thing are completely different, and there’s a challenge to get each key plus a gate that goes with each key with its own set of challenges. Spoiler warnings.... The challenges from the book would NOT have made for good film though as they’re largely dealt with in exposition and involve things like playing the video game Joust or solving a 3D rendition of a text-based dungeon game. Also the characters (other than Art3mis and Parzival) are very different in the book. Aech is super nerdy and he and Parzival spend several episodes geeking out over random 80’s trivia. Shoto and Daito never meet up with the rest in reality, and there’s significantly less working together between them. Also the events of the book take place over close to a year. That said, I absolutely agree with the changes they made for the movie and I think it came out with the pure energetically nerdy essence of the book and I can’t wait to see it several more times and then freeze frame through it on Blu-Ray! Also, I don’t think you’ll find the book to be slow at all. My first time through I finished in about three days. I could hardly put it down. Might be different for you since you saw the movie first and know the major plot points, but I still recommend it 😀

The movie is a shell of the awesome book. If you like the book, this movie will just piss you off. They made the dystopian setting of the book seem like a fun good time in the movie. I can enjoy book adaption movies, that only use the book loosely. Ender's Game for example, the movie used the book as toilet paper on set, but it was enjoyable as a movie on its own. The Ready Player One movie is to the book, what The Last Air Bender movie is to the animated series. Its that bad.
