Cool cool! The last round was definitely the more exciting round. I'm totally in favor of that. 👍

New format sounds cool. Excited for more epsiodes! However, I do am not super psyched about the winner being announced in a youtube short. That feels a bit anti-climactic. I'd prefer if you judge it offline with say a small panel and release a completely self contained video. I liked the feedback, and was hoping the new format would have a 2 minute round robin discussion.
@hakonmarcus3 жыл бұрын
I agree! I think people will easily watch two vids if its contest/results. Vimlark could probably even have separate videos of a guest developer doing a complete playthrough of both games imo. I am usually not able to play most jam games (mac) and would love to watch some straight up let's play's.

I'm really glad a core idea of this is letting lesser known devs show their stuff to more people. Honestly I found your channel through miziziz's 4 dev 1 art series so I'm glad to see you doing the same thing.

I mourn the loss of the scope creep round, but it was a necessary removal. I wish that the judges hadn't gone though, hearing the judges' feedback was one of my favorite parts, but I understand if it was just too much to organize and get people onboard for. The one-on-one format seems like a lot of fun though, I look forward to it

I do fully understand how the setup for a Ready.Set.Jam. would be so... complex, but I have a couple of problems (and solutions) with that idea. Problems: -Relying on the community for votine opens up a lot of oppertunity's for bias and discrimination. My biggest concern is that big youtubers like Dani would crush the compition, simply because people who who he is. -The idea of it being one round takes a lot away from what I think is special about this jam. I love seeing jam games evolve, so it's a shame that this would be one round only. My Idea: I suggest making the jam jam follow this layout: -2 weeks build time for Classic Game -2 days of judging -1 week build time of Scope Creep -2 Days of Judging -End I think that cuts down on time quite a bit while still retaining the fun of the originals. Also, I think that 2 contestants is fine but guest judges should stay, but if 4ish guest judges are too much, than you can cut down on the number. That is just my opinion though, I'll I'm still intrested regardless of what happens :)

you should call it READY. SET. DUEL!

I question the removal of judges. Opening it for the community to judge only opens up discrimination to decide the winner. When it was weighted towards the guest judges, you could heavily limit the impact of discrimination on the results. Furthermore, members of the community aren't necessarily at the same experience level as the guest judges from before, and very well may lack important insights en masse. The feedback I received from the judges in series 3 was far more useful to me as a developer trying to improve my skills than anything that was said in the comments. I do like the swap to head to head.
@KotCR3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the other problem with community judging is that the project that memes the hardest tends to win. I'd like to think the community here are more mature than that, but as this is the internet, probably best not to rely on that.

Yea, also, we all know that players don't always really know what they want and could easily give feedback that would make the game less fun, then punish them in the next round for not following bad advice

I love this idea! I think it takes a lot of pressure off the contestants too as it’s tough to commit to 3 whole games. Just submitted my application. Would love to be considered! And great video as always.

Round 2 was the best part of the old format, round 3 always felt like a disappointment since it didn't keep building on the game. I think if it's a single game then maybe more than one theme and restriction would be cool :)

I liked the 3 round format a lot. It was fun to route for your favourite from the start but I get that people dropping out is a problem. Here's an idea... why not keep 3 rounds but instead of inviting just 4 devs open round one up to 8 with only 3 progressing then if people drop out you'll still be good to go 👍 also in terms of a multi video series you could still do 1 video covering all 3 rounds. I watch that 👍👊

could you include people of relatively same skill-levels? so you could have some RSJ’s with beginners or experts
@fearsomefawkes67242 жыл бұрын
Agreed, especially when there's just a handful of devs it's just awkward when there's some people that are clearly just more experienced/better devs. Feels rough for the less experienced dev. I still think the less polished stuff is interesting, but it seems unfair to compare some of these devs against each other instead of against someone closer to the same skill, but in a different style or something to keep things fresh

I don't want to sound salty, but...when you talk about RSJ being judged by a poll in the KZbin community section, do you mean you'll actually set up a poll in the KZbin community section, or will it be more like the poll you mentioned in the art-pack mimic video?

Sounds pretty good. With how it was so far, half the videos' runtime was wasted on reintroducing the same people over and over again, which loses audience interest if they have to sit there and watch the same thing over and over instead of focusing on the actual game jam content.
