What always killed me is when they are grilling Homer about the tax return, it's painfully obvious that they haven't even opened up the tax return envelope yet.

The Ned one was funny because it’s pretty much pointless to file taxes before February. Source: I used to work for the IRS as a tax examiner

My Mom was an accountant for many years and I remember asking her when the episode first aired how accurate Ned filing that early was. She basically laughed it off too.

Question from a non American why do you guys in the states fill them out by hand ? In Norway we get them already filled out and all we have to do is just look it over and see if there is anything wrong or make sure that our income has changed or not. And we have sent them electronically since 2001
@madisonryan7671 Жыл бұрын
@@thatnorwegianguy1986 it's an old episode most people can e-file. That being said we still have to figure our taxes mainly due to the efforts of lobbyists from various parts of the accounting lobby pushing to complicate the process. That being said our tax system is heavily politically motivated and far from transparent and thusly is occasionally subject to violent reactions.

One of my favorite Simpsons jokes regarding money was when Homer put up Lisa's Sax on a poker game.. and the mob boss Homer was playing against had his expert examine the saxophone with one of those jewel magnifying glasses.. the expert examining it looks to the mob boss and said "the monetary value is low, but the sentimental value is thru the roof"

Is that the same episode where Fat Tony wins a violin and the owner goes away, sobbing, so Tony starts miming playing a violin and says, _"Oh, I can do it for real, now."_ and starts playing it like a champ? 😂

In Norway we have return free filing, so it took me less than 1 hour to check the numbers. Then I was all done. Even if you forget to confirm the forums, it will send it in automatically when it’s due. Of course it’s best to check if you have anything you have to add or remove. Then the tax office calculate the final results, and gives you an invoice if you have to pay if you owe money, or they pay you the amount they owe you. Fast & Easy.

So what I learned from this Video is We have to pay money to people we never met for, the privilege of being allowed to make money in the first place... only to hopefully save some money for the future so that we can buy things we want and pay even more taxes to these people we never met for the privilege of being able to buy stuff and then pay even more money for the privilege of being able to own stuff every year because for some reason having stuff in a pile in a specific lot is a privilege too. Also, these people we never met know exactly how much we are supposed to pay but have a big complex system that you can screw up and get thrown in jail over.

They will always get their money, from regular folks anyway. My dad's accountant made a screw up in 1978, I don't remember exactly what it was, it was under $1,000 (something about a 401k). Anyway, he didn't hear anything until 2010; he had to pay $80,000. I guess that added a fine for every year.
