Ya know....everything about that entire situation, beginning to end was done efficiently, professionally, and effectively. The tower told the pilot what happened and he did the flyby and like 5 pilots confirmed they were leaking. They landed immediately and none of the other pilots got nasty about the delays and reroutes. I enjoyed listening to how professional all involved were in this situation.

A pilot that would get worked up due to a delay caused by a situation like this has no place in a commercial airliner. But I am sure some dickhead pax got their panties twisted about the delay. Probably none of the pax on the accident aircraft, but ... you know. There was a story about people on a Condor flight to Punta Cana getting all upset when having to make an emergency landing in Canada due to a heart attack on board. They weren't upset about the heart attack, but about getting to their hotel late and missing dinner ...

When the current center runway was the right side back in the 90's early 2000's our maintenance trucks had a hell of time with our tower radios. When ever we got anywhere west of Echo most trucks would hear the ATIS bleed on all freqs. FAA tech ops and the city radio crews could never come up with a fix, it was dangerous to say the least. As we got newer radios the problem started becoming less, probably just old technology in the radios…

That's one athletic deer, since they can jump 6-foot fences; one site said 8-foot fences. Every airport I've ever flown into or out of has been fenced all around to preclude people and critters wandering on in. Apparently, this venison Olympian had a death wish.
@vap0rtranz7 жыл бұрын
One MercilessMing no that airport field has issues. I was a return flight when a deer struck on landing. That was a few years ago so I don't think this is some Olympian deer. More probable a "weak link": can't stop a jumper, and tower doesn't know quad peds running around the field, much less bipeds.
@onemercilessming13427 жыл бұрын
It is the tower's job to know what is on the field and where, regardless of whether or not the airport has "issues". I said that reputable websites state that a deer can jump six feet and some reported eight feet. Therefore, if the fencing around the airport is under eight feet, a deer can easily jump it. If the fencing is OVER eight feet, that is one Olympian deer.
@davidnull55907 жыл бұрын
As I posted above: U.S. Department of Agriculture rates white tail deer as being able to jump 15 feet high fences. How tall do you want the fences? I haven't seen anything the deer aren't able to bound over. They need more guys with rifles who are happy eating venison.
@onemercilessming13427 жыл бұрын
I grew up where white tail deer abound. I've never seen them bound over a house, so there ARE things that they cannot jump over. As to posting guys with rifles around an airport, what happens when one of them misses the mark and and hits one of the landing or taking off or taxiing planes? No one's aim is ever perfect 100% of the time. How tall do the fences need to be? Or would YOU rather be on one of the planes that hit a deer and result in a catastrophe?
@davidnull55907 жыл бұрын
The Berlin Wall was under 12 feet. Give those DHS guys who are trained (hopefully) to shoot straight some real-world targets that help the airports. The Feds spend a great deal of money training those guys, perhaps an additional class in Deer Hunting 101?

Thank you VASA for well done, infomative video. Thank you, also, Carter and Iker!How did the deer get on airport property? Could Blue Streak 5320 not get farther away from the 35R to keep it open after inspection? Or was there fuel on 36R? Thank you.

I love how the news station helicopters were moving in to get a shot of the dead deer and plane. I guess they monitor the airwaves and sit in their hangars or run traffic duties until something like this comes along.

This is a year late, but you would be correct. The airport I did my heli training out of that also had the contracts for all the news stations had a room that listened to a bunch of frequencies and had all the major news stations on TVs.

What was a deer doing anywhere near an extremely loud airport? They run when they hear a stick break a mile away but this one apparently didn't give a damn about all that sound.🤣😂🤣😂🤣

I was onboard when a deer jumped out in front on landing. it was at same airport, Charlotte NC. we heard a big bang in the cabin too. luckily we were already on the ground. it brought a new meaning to "deer in headlights" :) but I always wondered if a deer can get on the runway, then couldn't a terrorist?!

radio station breaking through has to do with solar flares hence it disappearing quickly and in one location and NEW, though if they set up a religious channel without knowing what they were doing it could also be bleeding into the channel but not only is that HIGHLY illegal it's also unlikely to fade SO quickly so flares are MUCH more likely. We use them ALL the time in Amateur radio to be able to make contacts with ppl WAY outside our normal 5 watt range for VHF/UHF. It's great if we're contesting though we literally won't pick up ANY of our local chatter since our signal is getting bounced sometimes up to 2500 miles! I grew up using our radios to listen to air traffic control every time we went anywhere to pick someone up. Definitely quite fun since we'd hear them around ten miles out and we'd totally know what's happening and if they were on time before arriving. I got my license when I was 9 and the ppl who issued the license thought my DOB and determined I was MORE likely to be 109 instead of 9. lol My WHOLE family and most my friends all got their licenses and my dad would use his HF radio to talk to people all around the world INCLUDING the international space station on his way home from work every day. Definitely lots of fun since when EVERYONE'S communications goes out we'd be fine, it was sorta like a open channel cell phone for everyone in the family. (plus anyone else listening) we'd also listen to police as well as fire and rescue/ Once I got pulled over by the police since I was driving the car with a homemade HF 6 foot antenna on the back (my father is a RF antenna electrical engineer, so he builds antennas for a living mostly for the DOD.) They were SOO sure that there was NO way this was legal and the cop got quite cross with me until I pulled out my license AND a printed law to SHOW him since he didn't even know what a Ham radio was! That really brought him up short, bc he was NOT going to believe me at ALL! Luckily my father had thought ahead and placed that in the glove box just in case we dealt with a very uninformed cop, since they believe that we CANNOT legally listen to the police while driving down the road, at least not in Indiana unlike in Seattle were I grew up. We actually do what we call bunny hunts where someone hides somewhere within a 45 miles range and we'd use only our radios to find him. It is quite easy with a directional antenna hanging out the window! lol However once we got close the signal would get so strong you couldn't tell anymore. Then we'd actually take the antennas completely off the radio and use our BODIES to shield it while turning around. You'd be surprised how effective that was, though ppl could pick locations that had a lot of metal which would bounce the signal ALL over the place. This was all actually a dry run for finding someone hurt since if something like mount rainier blew there'd be NO other form of communication, so amateur radio operators will assist all the rescue services. Bc of my background as kids I'd take a paperclip and use that for a antenna to get ALL the TV channels and not the just local ones either, you'd be amazed as how EASY it is to do that as well as how easy it was to get free satellite if you know what your doing. lol
