Here is my try to fly the Boeing 747. It is a Queen of the skies. Sad to see the retirement of those gigantic Jumbo Jets. We will still see those beautiful machines flying for cargo flights. Hi to Captain Joe! Anyway I am glad that I installed the Microsoft flight simulator 2020 because it has the B747 default model. I don't really like it since many of systems just do not operate correctly. In LNAV/VNAV it is absolute nightmare. Now I learned that the plane is considered unstable if outside of localizer/GS by one dot or more. THANKS! I have never flown before, never used a simulator. Got FS2020 to play around with 747. Got 20 hours in and many crashes later I've got it down to where I can take off and land the thing pretty nicely (still not professionally since I crash maybe 1 out of 5 or 6 times. And in life obviously 1 crash is too much). But I wasnt sure how to know what is considered "better" or worse. Knowing the 1 dot deviation gives me yet another good metric to know I'm following Real Life protocols! Also been managing a lot of the simulator's bugs....treating them as just system failures lol.

You are right about speeds, they are unrealistically high. 747 take off flaps are F10 and F20. Just made OPT calculations for your current TOW and for 350T F10 Vspeeds would be 159/163/170 And for MAX TOW 446695kgs (747-8F) also F10, Vspeeds are 167/182/193. Calculations are made for GYD APT RWY34, standard day. APU start button is below R IRS (6:00) and TOGA buttons are placed in front of thrust levers 2&3. For after TO check list (33:06) I guess you used 747 classic check list instead -8 with OFF (hydraulic unpressurised position). For landing 260T F30 Vref is 143+5kt. Cheers....

Thank you for a fine video my friend. Even when things go awry, I still learn things. I haven't taken the 747 for a complete flight yet, but this evening flew the 787, and my flight was a success. I try to duplicate real pilots, hand fly the takeoff and up to fl100 or first altitude assignment before using autopilots, and manually fly the landings. Went well for the 787 (Didn't use VNAV, it is a buggy mess as you have seen and I see in many videos). One thing I have read and from my own experience is to decrease the sensitivity of the joystick curves. I used -80%, even more for the rudder, and it much improved the flight response.

Thanks for this. I've had the same frustrations, the plane dropping when raising flaps, the plane uncontrolled gain in altitude when the flaps go down. I liked and subscribed to your video. Thanks for taking the time trying to fly the broken plane.

Flight simulator 2020 is a game, not a simulator, the game isn’t even finished yet and they rushed it out, most systems don’t even work.

It is a simulator base with bugs, if you ignore all airliners and jets. Some things are not perfect or missing, but in work. The other way is to not release the game until its perfect, what can last a long time, maybe years to fix every single issue. But then the smart flight sim modding comunity wouldn't been able to work on the simulator aswell, to maybe fix some small side bugs faster by themselfs as asobo would alone.

Eventhough its stable the overall systems of the default 747 in fsx were terrible! As I guess only a fraction of the buttons present in the cockpit were functional (thé stock fsx 747 is terrible)

you need to activate the Altitude autopilot by pushing the the ALT button, even in my old sim like FSX it is always the same in airbus or boeing. otherwise it will not activate a stable climb/ descend .

for an expensive " sim " this sure has a lot of blanks and misinformation of the aero craft specs as u pointed out ,but least Ms said itll be updated for many years to come so itll only get better and more realistic :

Even sims like X-Plane had some very obvious missing / incomplete portions to cockpit functions in its planes. It took several updates, or even at times 3rd Party Cockpits / Aircraft packs to actually deliver a 1:1 experience in the game. There is already a mod that improves the Airbus A320Neo cockpit in Flight Sim 2020 significantly, and is continuing to improve which I believe is free (but I could be wrong, some add-ons are paid). The hope is that Microsoft does a lot of the leg work in the future to bring their baseline plane cockpits closer to their real life counterparts in terms of functionality.

Even if you dont fly Airbus: Could you do a tutorial series on the 320? From start up to landing with all real procedures and some explanations behind it? Even if not everything is working - I guess many people are looking for that since it is the largest default plane in the simulator. I am also looking for a real check list and start up procedure since a few days - but there is nothing. Only 320 sim pilot (also a real pilot) did a video on mcdu - but that was it.

Yea i would avoid auto pilot when it comes to this sim at least right now... Just try to stick to hand flying.. Auto pilot is buggy on most of the bigger airplanes right now (hopefully patched soon) Also laggy inside the cockpit. Just hand flying these planes is fun though! In my opinion at least!

Based on how that poor thing handled upon landing I think you need to switch from "Legacy" to "Modern" as the flight model. "Legacy" is designed for FSX airplanes whereas "Modern" is designed for FS2020 aircraft. I had that problem myself initially with FS2020 and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what was wrong with the flight characteristics of various aircraft, especially with larger ones like the 747. But once I change to "Modern" these birds went from "flying like a brick" to "flying like a charm". A little work on the pitch trim would not have hurt either on that landing ;o). Safe landings!

Its still true that unless the magenta indicator is active on primary flight display for vertical speed then the set vertical speed is not confirmed. Press vertical speed button until magenta indicator is active. His is inactive and is probably a bug....

(scroll down) Well i have watched this video of yours and implemented as per your instructions on setting up flight plan with all controls you used and ultimately i was able to successfully take off and land the plane smoothly and taxied it in the parkway EGKK J U. I felt ecstatic that i successfully completed the entire flight. Thanks to you. I think the problem with autopilot IS due to slow CPU Speedy. If you have a 6 core you must have 3.5 GHz or more. You nerd a good GPU and good M.2 SSD card....just let the CPU work in calculations as much as possible. I had similar problems with 747 in 1993 ATP Sublogic app. Everything you made was happening 1 or 2 seconds later. Time enough to make the auto pilot to overreact. Try to recover manualy in the "right" way a stall from FL 180 and see how long It takes to level up. So you can see if your PC is able to do things "naturaly". 2nd option is to fly permanently in manual mode. If you get used to It....maybe you would recover and land savely in real live. At those times my PC was very weak and my only option was the 747 with vintage instruments. I made about 8,000 hours in 10 years.

I had the same issues flying the 747 in the sim. Many autoflight issues, and the aircraft is super unstable on approach. This aircraft needs a major fix! The A320 is slightly better, but is still way off the mark.. Quite disappointing. They should focus more on realism and less on eye candy if they really have to choose between the two.

How embarrassing for Microsoft, the FMC is not even close to working. If this happened in real life, the plane would be grounded. So he gets airborne and VNAV is totally fcked up. Microsoft needs to hire you to make their toy airplane much closer to a real 747.

What controller are you using? It looks to me you're trying with the keyboard to land. Anyway, good intro setting up the MCDU, i didn't really understand how to set up the vnav profile in either 320/747 or in the TBM.. even if I put the alts there, it will not follow the profile.. so VS or FLC all the way up or down.

After you were on approach and had enabled the APP mode, you were having all the pitch and altitude problems, I noticed the LNAV button was lit but not VNAV. Shouldn’t it have been enabled as well to fly a stable approach? I am a real world pilot and MSFS pilot as well, but fly much smaller airframes so I’m not that familiar with the 747, but just wondering?

I think it was Ok on ILS until flare. VNAV shouldn't be armed for approach, well it may be active, but it is not the requirement to follow the ILS signal. It may be used for RNP or RNAV approaches.
