it's an eye-tracking controller. because you have one hand on the stick and the other on the throttle, you have no controls open to move your point of view around, so people either play in VR or with an eye tracker like this guy

In regard to muscle memory, I had once purchased a TM Cougar on ebay, turns out the seller lived nearby and when I asked her if the controls were comparable to the real thing she said (as an ex AF-Falcon driver) " No, it's not the same response she was accustomed too. A. The throttle (obviously we've all now seen the TM Viper TQS) wasn't the same and the F.L.C.S. had too much travel. There are mods available to the Warthog and Cougar that realistically limit the amount of travel from null to enough but it's my understanding the "enough" was to allow T-Birds to perform their aerobatic sequences as nullifying the movement felt "unnatural". I'll go one further and ask this question...if Angels "bungee pressure" (15lbs nose down) do the Birds also replicate the same nose down at all and with such limited movement available...How? Cheers!!

I used to work on F-16s in AK when I was in the Air Force. I was a sheetmetal and corrosion guy. Had some good times and met some awesome people. The folks I worked with were top-notch maintainers. Miss them all.

I appreciate DCS and their integration of g-loc. It's far too easy, from my perspective, to continue high g maneuvering for extended periods. Perhaps, there is a way to make it more progressive as the pilot continues high g flight? That would help boost realism.

The fact an actual pilot spends time on this is a credit to the simulation. Great stuff if we can experience 10% of what these guys did for real it’s a win. I took a real flight at the controls never done before and the instructor said “Wow you under the basics so well, your positioning where you should be looking” all I could think of was I played a lot of old school flight sims in the 90s and Elite in the 80s 😂 he was happy for me to fly most of the 45 minutes along the coast and back before taking back control to land. Brilliant experience from a good few years back. Went in my first Helicopter last year ridding shotgun over my city and up a Loch for about an hour and it was breathtaking. Would love to do a gyrocopter or maybe a glider.

I can’t even imagine how strong one’s neck would have to be to withstand that amount of G Forces. Super cool video. I don’t know anything about fighter pilots. But at certain points you’d move your head in a way I’ve never seen, but it was fluid. I can only deduce it’s because of your training and you’ve done it so many times over a long period of time. It’s instinct regardless of real life or a simulation.

Real question: if youre at supersonic speeds in a jet, what does it actually sound like in the cockpit to fire the jet's weaponry? Do you hear it at all over the engines, and if so, does it kind of sound weird? Like, is there a doppler effect to it or something, or does it just sound normal in the cockpit, etc?

I did a flight simulator that you had to get inside a motion capsule where the controls & screens show the displays👍 I could take off & land on the ground but couldnt land on a aircraft carrier Flight Deck😂 The instructor said I did better then alot of actual pilots. Dogfighting was a blast👍

GS flew against a Rafale pilot before and he splashed that guy twice, maybe more. He stayed humble and assured us all that this would never happen in real life, but in DCS, he knows what he's doing.

It's just there are alot of much better pilots and entire dedicated to BFM community, where there is no "F-16 is the best dogfighter ever" and "just take it to the deck" bs. If he would show up to a dogfighting server he would be destroyed. Not by all, of course.

2:00 "He's a little rangey for a gunshot". Question here; in a real combat scenario, would you have to be concerned with where the missed rounds would go if you were to fire. What I mean is, if you were in a position to fire the gun, but perhaps you expected only 60% of all rounds fired to hit the target, would you have to consider where those 40% of fired rounds went (and therefore landed)? I suppose in a life or death encounter with the enemy, that might not be a concern, but it still interests me. Just imagining some woman in the next country over taking her dog for a walk and suddenly the ground around her gets peppered with stray rounds.

The gun on the F-16 has an effective range of ~10,000 ft. so outside of that the rounds would slow down and drop.

Are there usually server or weapon restrictions to make these dogfights happen? Most DCS matchups i see theyll start with a flyby or in the turn already, is this bc BVR combat wouldnt be as fun or balanced? Or is this how things actually go if you dont have a dedicated long range aircraft/setup?

Mobetta's just dogfights server starts you at a 10 mile merge. Different slots for guns, or heaters, or bvr

The reason for an initial merge in 1v1 BFM is just to have a neutral start in a guns only or short range missile fight. IRL, you would go from long range missiles to medium/short range then to guns and it’s by any means necessary.

I ejected in the merge last week. I found out that DCS changed my control bindings and mapped EJECT to my radar-on switch for some reason. I didn't have time to figure out what the name of that key binding was, so I just bound my radar switch to the ejection handle. I need time away from work to figure out the name of the radar binding in that 200 mile long list of binds. Until then, I just pull the ejection handle to toggle radar on and off. If I need to eject I just flip the radar switch.

@@reboundrides8132 I'm used to this kind of thing. My very first car out of high school had electrical problems. I had to hit the sunroof button to get the left turn signal on. I just had to hope that I never had to turn left on a rainy day. In a way this Viper is an upgrade. If I had to start an aircraft manufacturing company to rival Boeing or Lockheed, I'll name it Jankey-Dynamics.

Go into the adjust flight controls for the aircraft you are flying, click on the column for the stick or throttle (which ever has the mapped button) and push the button or switch that is ejecting you and it will take you right to the mapping. Right click and clear combo. Then bind it to the command you want.

This was fascinating to watch, to the point that I'm concerned if this epic pilot revealed too much of his combat logic... I guess dogfighting is an international language, and all combat pilots learn the same formulas and they focus on perfecting timings on manoeuvres and decision making? BFM/dogfighting is relatively well known by now. Now, BVR techniques and missiles, that is super super secret. Think former pilots are explicitly forbidden from playing games like this and doing BVR tactics due to OPSEC risks. Not like DCS is remotely accurate in BVR anyways though, or so I've heard from pilots.
