Happy Birthday, Bandit! When I would flounder fish in the Chesapeake Bay with my dad we would use flounder belly and/or Strips of squid. We didn't jig, we would drift and drag it along the sandy bottoms. Haven't used that technique in 50 years. I prefer plastic jigs because you don't pick up as many skates and other trash species.

I am one of those old timers. Pretty old now but back in the day I caught a LOT of flounder with flounder belly. Back then there were no limits size or numbers. When I cut the belly strips, I cut them about 5" to 6" long and about 1/2" to 3/4" inch wide. I always fished them on a Carolina rig with the lightest weight I could keep on the bottom. You can believe this or not, my wife and I caught over 100 flounder without moving our boat.

@@bayoubanditcharters Maybe it's Carolina rig what matters? If so, what length? I remember my friend (see above) also used Carolina rig. Maybe I should also try again?

That'd why there are limits. My neighbor did the same thing in the early 70s with zebco 33 reals. We use to gig them by the coolers full in the 70s. We pull in to shore about 430 am and cook fresh fried flounder and drink PBR Beer. God I miss those days.

I’ve never used flounder meat to fish! But I’ve caught literally hundreds of them using a green sparkle beetle with a strip of cut mullet. From 40 years ago it was my go to down around Gulfport harbor! Once the gulps and all that got so popular I haven’t used those in a while, but I guarantee they would still work!

Great video! Don't throw in the meat towel yet! I learned about fishing meat for flounder from my time at the Jersey shore. We typically used the the flounder ribbons from both sides of the fish (4 ribbons total). We also used Sea Robbin and Sand Shark. I know ribbons work here in the Galveston area. Use the whole strip from the smaller flounder and cut larger ribbons in half. I simply put it on a plain jig head. When fished with a teaser, the meat is always on the bottom hook/jig. When the the meat turns dirty, change it, the scent is gone. Try leading off with a single jig head and a white ribbon the next time you pull up on your honey hole there at the squares. If they are holding on the structure, you got them! Happy hunting sir!

Oh it works. Here in NY basically anyone filleting there fish, saves the belly for strip/ teaser . Oddly, the more beat up it looks, the better it works. It’s great cause you can use one strip for a whiiile. good luck , and Happy bday bud

@@bayoubanditcharters another great trick is to soak the belly strips, or white skin in food coloring. The children’s cupcake neon colors make for some great teasers/ bait! I’ve seen some crazy things inside fluke/ flounder when cleaning fish. They are some really aggressive fish. I’ve got some other great tips I don’t mind sharing .

Bandit, what conditions are you looking for when looking at when to target flounder?
@bayoubanditcharters
@bayoubanditcharters 3 ай бұрын
Bait and some sort of structure. Points, drains, or any shoreline abnormality. Falling tide is my favorite, rising tide is good as well, dead tide is the most challenging, but you can still catch them if you're in the right areas! It's August, so daylight until around 9:30am is the best time to target them with this extreme heat!

I have tried it 4 times after seeing a friend catch several flounders with it. Did not work for me, only 1 flounder with flounder belly in 4 days. My conclusion: there's something else they are not telling in order to catch flounder with flounder belly. Maybe a different work of the bait? Some scent added while at home? Maybe how we cut is important, a particular shape is better? Who knows. I know it worked for my friend, one day he caught over 20 to my 5 flounders in that day. But I could not figure it out and I don't do it anymore.
