Copart have just put their fees up. Winning a car for £1000 will cost you about £1350 after fees then you need to pay for delivery as well. Combine that with more private buyers pushing prices up, not being able to inspect the cars in person, the possibility of hidden damage, and the current popularity of salvage flipping channels on KZbin, it’s much harder to find decent cars compared to a year or two back. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but I honestly think most people would be better off going to an auction that allows private buyers and viewing the cars in person such as Aston Barclay, G3 etc.

I have been buying cars from Copart for the last 4 years. Prices are silly now because every Tom, Dick and Harry either wants to start a You Tube Channel about it, lots of migrants in my area now seem to buy them, Joe Public thinks it's an easy way to buy cheap cars and dont have a clue. All of this has driven up prices that are now stupid. Bargins are a lot fewer nowadays. It's not easy money. It's not a certain bargin even with Cat N's. Lots have hidden damage. Lots have mechanical problems. Even if you do your homework it's still Russian Roulette on what turns up.

So true Chops - rear end on an 08 Vectra Estate, low miles for its year. The car was written off because there was a bend on just one corner of the estate rear door, a smashed rear light cover and broken bumper. I sourced the second hand parts and a local repairer did a lovely job on the rear door, filling and spraying etc. Total repairs cost £600, insurance paid out £1250 for the car and I kept the cat N ‘salvage’ - why I wanted the car was because we owned it since 2009 and it had a full service history, cam belt change etc. Decent tyres too. That was 5 years ago, the car is still going strong, bit scruffy perhaps, but proves an old car that is well maintained can give you years of reliable motoring. Equally if someone had bought this car at a salvage auction and repaired it, whoever bought it from them would have had the benefit of acquiring a car with nothing mechanically wrong with it. Because you can’t buy cheap cars easily any more, this Vectra is probably still worth £600 - £1000. It just refuses to die!

EXCEPT, the free account doesn't even show full listing, i.e service history, vehicle report, etc. So you have no idea if the current bids are expensive or cheap for what it is. Why is Copart not being transparent to people not yet ready to join and bid?! Fuck them! Also their watch list doesn't even save the cars to monitor listings unless you pay membership fee. What a bunch of grifters. Also why do they charge a separate £50 fee to every sale on top of the fee for "moving car to loading area for collection"... just include fee inside the BUYERS FEE FFS. More deception if you don't read all T&C's. Not impressed at all Chops. :/
