The previous dealers did do something wrong. Anyone distance selling anything, ie payment over the phone, has to inform the customer of their 14 day rights. I knew this 30 years ago from selling British Rail tickets over the phone. Don’t do the sale correctly then it falls back on the seller.

Great video, yes I saw that about the tesla guy, it cost him 23k in fees, the figures were quite big as the depreciation was something stupid like 50k (!) personally I've had no problem with delivering cars, done loads, but obviously there's a first time. Had a funny one the other week tho, guy paid by credit car, he'd got a slightly broken parcel shelf, 61 plate volvo at 2300,he wanted to claim on section 75 the price of a new shelf, apparently your liable jointly with the card company, so thats another issue. Tbh James I think your missing out on a massive market not delivering cars, half my sales are delivered and everyones been as nice as pie.

The reason why the rules are so strongly in favour of consumers is because of the - frankly - shitty behaviour of the trade many moons ago. they've largely been done away with these days but today's traders are still suffering for it sometimes.

The gaul of this legal eagle but so glad he finally got caught by the wire wool.......i hear loads of stories of people being had over by lawyers or other legally qualified people and youd think they would be beyond reproach with honesty and integrity but no. What a slimy character this guy was though trying it on 3 times......thought he was clever got greedy and got nabbed! I still think though that cases ought to be able to be mitigated where customers come back a year later claiming the 14 day paperwork excuse......surely the question ought to be asked about why they they after 12 months use they think the clock on the 14 days only starts ticking due to their apparent ignorance of its existence sooner in the process........ That's despicable behaviour. The last car I bought, I did send a deposit so I could view the vehicle, but I did understand that if I decided not to buy it, then I wouldn't automatically get a refund. Not a fan of distance buying, as I far prefer to see the car in person. It did mean a 4 hour train journey in my case.

If I was that interested in a car I would rather drive the distance to look at it. I wouldn’t buy a car without looking at it. I drove from Essex to Axminster once to buy a classic car ,stopped off at cheddar gorge on the way home for dinner

I have a 2010 VW polo with a 1.2 petrol 3 cylinder. I think my car makes that noise every morning but I don't slam the gas as soon I start the engine, I always wait around 20 seconds before moving and I let it warm up for a few minutes of normal driving before I step on the gas. there is also a ticking noise at low rpm when the engine is cold that goes away once the engine is warmed up. apparently the ticking is normal and is something to do with a high pressure fuel system from what I could find online? my car has 211,000km on it now and I've had a good experience owning a polo so far. insurance is cheap and the only issues I've had were a broken abs pump and a leaking drum brake piston. I get my oil changed every 10,000km and I am on track to doing 20,000km in my first year of owning the car. I may be wrong but it seems that these cars break if people neglect to do regular service intervals (as would almost any car). given the age of my car and the milage, I would expect things to start breaking but I'm aware of that. it doesn't mean the cars are unreliable when things break at this milage. but if this happens regularly to cars with regular service and low miles then it is shocking.
