Glad his bass tutorials are still available on KZbin, despite his passing. Rest in peace my friend.

Jim's lessons have made me a much better player in just a few months. Maybe my putting in 2+ hours on bass daily has something to do it? That's the secret, putting in the time on the right stuff.

Thanks I have book eleven and I am doing quite well with it . Which book would you recommend that I go to next . I have also been practicing the cycle as you designated on the a string and I've seen tremendous growth and stamina .
@realbasslessons93567 жыл бұрын
Very cool. I recommend you start a two pronged approach. Begin the video series, "Following The Book Integrated Reading Technique." While it will be simple at first, this is how I always teach technique, as well as reading. I am confident you will love it. Secondly, do the "Following The book "What Makes Motown Bass Motown?" series of lessons. Even if Motown is not your choice of style, no prob, this series will teach and solidify solid time playing, groove, and teach you the fingerboard. I don't know if you read my introduction/description to the "Follow The Book.." programs of teaching, but this is the most detailed and comprehensive teaching I have ever offered. It IS studying with me. But, I warn you, you will need to practice, it will not "work for you." :) Jim

Hi Jim I’ve been following you for awhile. I found this lesson very inspiring and useful thank you. I like your use of flat 9. Very cool. I also like your use of turning the 6 to a dominant and again using the flat 9. Where can I study more lines similar to this? I think this is what I’m lacking in my playing. Dave

David, Copy the master players, this the language of jazz. Start with Dexter Gordon and Grant Green.

Nice lesson Jim. Noticed you have the always have the bass at a 45 degree angle like a classical guitarist. Do you recommend this to students or is it just personal preference?
@realbasslessons93567 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ben. I hold my bass at this angle because if the neck is lower, I have bend my wrist too much. I suggest you do what ever is comfortable for you.
