I love how the basses are always Squier with a pickup mod. They all sound awesome.

+JG_bass I enjoy these basses too! These specific models feel great to me. They just need some enhancement in picking up the range of the strings.

I can kinda play guitar...not really. But I want to learn bass. No videos on youtube really make sense to me. Where should I start out/what should I learn first? :)

Really like your demeanor as a teacher! So, real novice here. After watching this (which I'm going to practice, despite having the following question), I saw somewhat similar vids from others, also recommending the Cycle of 4ths as a practice tool. But none really say why. In this vid of yours on triads, is the Cycle of 4ths just a sort of "schedule" of which triads to practice? (As if you'd simply said "play all the C triads, then do the same for all the C# triads," etc. etc.?) And/Or is there a more real-life / practical reason to use the Cycle of 4ths? Thanks!

Hey David, As you may know, Jim died earlier this year. If I may be so bold as to answer your question, I believe that Jim would have said that practicing in 4ths is closer to what happens in Jazz (and a great deal of other forms of western popular music). For example, one of the most common structures we encounter is the ii-V-I progression (such as Dm7 - G7 - Cmaj7). If you notice this is all movement by 4ths. Moving by a larger interval also sharpens your ability to move around the neck. It's not hard to move by a semitone accurately, but a jump of a 4th up or down the neck, particularly in a busy pattern, is a touch more difficult. Hope this helps.

Hi there, I am glad to have found your site. Do your videos have a sequence in which a new learner can use in order. I tried following the 1, 2, 3, 4 and now this lesson 5 and they seem to skip around and not build upon one another. Am I following the sequence wrong?

+Darren Strutt No order, but, the description is pretty clear.

Hello,You seem so play a pickup note every so often. Is that the previous note or open string note?
