From around 11.40 there is some of the best advice ever for any musician. I particularly liked 'Play it till you love it'. PERFECT. I like to say 'Don't move on till you don't want to'.Please keep up the great work, too many people dispensing terrible advice on KZbin, we need real musicians like you more than ever. And of course I personally both enjoy and find your presentations instructive. Cheers !David.

That’s something which Stewart Copeland has elaborated on as a drummer, that most drummers can’t play the same pattern for 2-3 minutes without changing anything.

Sir, lovely lesson (another one) but I could learn 5x faster by showing me notation as luckily I can read music.... I know ear training is important but maybe I`d like to have fun by reading music? Still love your lessons, Cheers!

I learn so much from your teaching style! Practice is definitely the key!! It's a lost art. So many excuses are made sometimes. Patience and Persistence. I wish you were in my area to teach me. Your videos are still great to follow! You totally demystify jazz. Thank you!!!!

Please make this louder. Your ideas are right on target. There is an excellent book called The Evolving Bassist, by Rufus Reid. In it, the author reccomends writting bass lines down on paper so as to improve(hopefully). After a certain number of bass lines you can look back to where you began and play them all. You can see and hear how you evolved. Did you get better? Which bass lines would you say are really the best you've written up to that point? Which are not the best but still so good you would use them in live performance? Which are not Wrong but are rather dull? By evaluaing what you create, you know that you need to keep growing as a musician and that you have grown. There's more in the book. It's a classic for everyone, including advanced players and players who want to advance. Your so right about repitition. "Repitition is the mother of All skills". This old expression certainly applies to playing the bass or any other instrument. Thank you for your post.

The part I forgot to say is I have always played cover bands and do what it is on the, song always wanting to let some ting out of me but didn't. Country and southern rock is the type but now after getting into So What and others I want to learn jazz just for myself. Also I believe I have found the place to learn most important notes : those of silence !!

Jim, I love your videos, and you as a player, and a person. I had heard about you from a mutual friend, Rob Gorlay (another great player and person), I have even played through some of your lessons and books, but I just wanted to tell you how influential you are as musical force, to all of us. Thank you!

Jim - Thank you so much for all the time you put in into these instructional videos. I am 64 and playing since 14 years old but never had such information in such a common sense, unassuming, piece by piece approach, It is exceptional! I have visited many sites and no one seems to bring it to the table like you. Is there a list of your videos - especially those on jazz walking - so I can make certain I get through every last one of them? If you’re accepting funding subscribers, let me know - I’m happy to contribute.
