Aw c'mon. Old Howard couldn't have been that racist, right? Probably just a product of his time. Let's just check out some of his earliest writings... here's one... "On the Creation of N-" y'know what I'm just gonna go ahead and close this browser window real quick then run a drill through my hard drive for no specific reason.

It's really not though. Lovecraft was an extremely descriptive writer, and has described pretty much every horror in his mythology in great detail. Most of the "indescribable horror" is from writings from the perspective of the characters who are operating under a central line of "Some things are better off not knowing".

Why did he name his cat that for?
@SomethingClever1116
@SomethingClever1116 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheBlackstarrt There isn't any proof that he named the cat that, let alone for the reason that you would think. The cat was adopted and named (more than likely) by his parents when he was younger. Even if Lovecraft did name the cat that when they adopted it, the word used for his name was very commonly used at the time. Obviously it's cartoonish in its racism, but that's only through hindsight. That isn't to say Lovecraft wasn't racist of sexist, but you have to think about the context and period he grew up in. Some weaker evidence would be that even though the word is abhorrent now, he loved the cat dearly. So the name he gave the cat wasn't even in spite, it was just because it was a black cat.

It’s pretty interesting that certain swear words will get your channel banned. Google is kind of like our big brother moral guardian, making sure we don’t say bad words or have bad thoughts.

Brannon Winn That’s true, but no other place or group has had as much power over us as these tech companies do. This isn’t a knitting website with a dozen members. Are you going to use the internet for business in any way? Well, you’d better conform to Google’s (and every other tech company’s) constantly shifting pseudo- religious dogmas. Also, It’s hardly limited to this word. You *will* be banned from twitter if you disagree with them about transgenderism for example. That wasn’t the case 7 years ago. Nobody even talked about this group or really cared. It continues to build and build as more and more things become taboo to progressives and they become more openly totalitarian and heavy handed. I don’t even care about the word one way or the other, but they’re essentially banning you from the public square for saying the bad words of their religion. It’s essentially identical to saying “The word “bastard” is a derogatory term! If you say it, you will be banned from the internet itself!” I am of the opinion that if things progress as they have been lately, freedom of speech will effectively cease to exist.

Hey Adam, guess what... Everyone back then was racist to today's standard. You can still enjoy someone's work even if they were racist. If that's the criteria you have for what's worth reading then don't read anything older than the 1950s.
